Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

We all know the curriculum of computer science courses in India. this one is not much different from that but what I liked is the real world practice they make you do. From the first year onwards, there are labs of all the subjects everyday. They are also teaching us fundamentals of IoT which is like a hot topic in today's world. The teaching method can be improved by reducing the theory classes of some subjects like C and more focus on labs.

Internships Opportunities

2

The internship oppurtunities mainly start from the 5th semester according to me. I don't have much information about it but I have heard the students who are interested in it get one. The roles are quite vast for it.

Placement Experience

3

College provide placements but there is no batch of B.Tech that has graduated yet. The masters and BCA students have been placed till now by the college. But B.Tech students get eligible for campus placements from 7th semester onwards. One the B.tech student just got early placement in Goldman Sachs with a package of 55 LPA. Many great companies visit for placement in Amity like Google, Microsooft, Amazon, SmartData, Infosys, Intel, etc. My plans after getting a degree is to first do a job in a good company with a great package for a few years and after that I want to start my own Brand and design agency.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees per semester changes for every year. For the first year, it is 122500 per semester and then it increases 6500 per year. The registration fee was 1500 while filling out the form. The admission fee is 20000 which is refunded after some time. There are scholarships on the basis of JEE and 12th marks. For 12th from CBSE or ICSE they provide scholarship as follows: 100% for scoring 95% in PCM, 50% for scoring 90% in PCM. ANd for state board, 30% for scoring 90% in PCM.

Campus Life

4.5

The events are really good here. The main annual event is Amiphoria which happens in March. It is very good. Parmish Verma and Laddi Chahal came last time. There is also the annual sports event Sangathan in october. And there are all other small events happening every now and then. The library is great. there are all type of books and journals available there and also there are others available in the e-library which every student has access to. The classrooms are nice with windows facing the outside in every one and projectors and speaker system. as I mentioned, central AC. some classes are just next level whcih are basically Computer science labs with charging ports for every student, revolving chairs for comfort and what not. There are a lot of extracurricular oppurtunities for everyone out there no matter what interest they have. The clubs are endless, I can't even remember all of them. There is one for each interest.

Admission

I applied to Thapar Institute, Chandigarh University, Chandigarh Group of Colleges, DAVIET. I got accepted in all of them. I also appeared in JEE but failed to secure any computer science seat. I chose this college over others because of the real world problem solving they teach while in others, it is more assignments and theory stuff. except for thapar which is like really better than any of them but it's fees is like very very high so I chose not to go for it. The admission process for my college is pretty simple, first you register on the admission portal, then your form is checked and they contact you if you are eligible which mainly requires 65% in PCM for computer science. Then they conduct an online interview in which they ask you basic questions about the program you chose. and then if you are selected, you get your admission letter which you can accept and pay a part of the fees.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty is pretty good. Most of them are PhD scholars and others are currently pursuing it. Mostly the faculty is young so the relation between the students and them is pretty good especially with Computer Science ones. I personally liked our mentor Dr. Akshay Juneja as he really listens to all our problems and helps to solve them wether it be professional or personal. Dr. Sarika of ENV is pretty chill with students too. Dr. Tanveen Kaur who's our maths faculty is pretty strict even though she doesn't look like as she's quite young. The exam system is a bit complicated. There are a total of 6 surprise test per subject per semester which are MCQ based out of which, the best 4 are chosen. The mid sems are 25 marks each. The end semester exam is also 25 marks which is subjective and a 25 marks one which is objective.

Placement Experience:

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Placement Experience:

Students generally become eligible for placement from 7th semester, with numerous major companies like wipro, cognizant and various tech startups visit the campus with various offers. The university sees a high percentage of students getting placed. The package are widely depending on various skill and codes. Furthermore while the highest package looks impressive on paper, the avg package remains modest for the majority of the batch. My personal plans after getting the degree focus on exploring independent entrepreneurial ventures rather than tradition corporate placement.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
