Life in a government university

If i will be honest, this course doesn't prepare us for jobs. Almost everyone who studies here is preparing other courses as well like CA,CMA and other government exams like UPSC, ssc, banking or merely students are getting this degree to do masters and become lecturers.

Usually government aided internship are provided in our college and very few students get selected every year. Other than that AICTE approved internship and training programs are provided for which we have to pay to avail the courses.

Students become eligible after 5th semester. Companies like TCS, delloite etc come to our campus. The highest package offered is 4-5 LPA and these are non technical or BPO posts. Only 30percent students get placement. My plan is to do MBA after getting the degree.

Since i am studying in a government university, the fees is 10500/- for three years. The university provides a lot of govt scholarship because many students belong to the minority group. There are no extra charges. Everything's included in the admission and readmission fees. Few scholarships are provided by private companies like kalyan jewellers etc. And other scholarships are provided by the government. The amount of scholarship is about 10000-30000 per year.

Only one fest i.e Basant utsav is held every year in the month of april. Besides many competitions are held throughout the year.Inter college sports and cultural activities are hekd every year in the month of February.

I chose this college because it is a all women's government university and our honourable president Draupadi Murmu graduated from this university. It is not far from my home and it is situated in a area where i can avail coaching facilities for competitive exams. Also it is a renowned college in Odisha. I had applied for DU and also got selected in mata sundri college for women but i didn't join because it didn't have hostel facilities and it was far away from my home. The admission procedure for my college is as follows- Apply through sams portal(common application form) Choose the desired colleges Wait for selection list The selection is based on merit basis of std 12th

It varies from department to department. In some department for example psychology, pol sci , the cooperation between students and faculty members is quite good. The faculty of commerce is average. Our HOD is a great person. We don't really like the guest faculties as tgey are never serious about our topics. My course is bachelors in commerce . My specialization is accountancy and finance. Each semester two exams are conducted one is mid em and another one is end sem. Bcom hons is a three year programme. Our mid sem is of 20 marks theory and end sem is 80 marks. There are total 6 semesters. The exams are quite average. Very few students fail each year.
