Course Curriculum Overview

4

I wanted to take a drop year for JEE but wanted to have an second option so I chose this easy course. Many students pursue UPSC, B.TECH after doing B.SC. The course curriculum needs to have practical applications. Major semester exams are held once every 6 months. And test exams are held 1 month before major semester examinations. Exams are pretty decent in difficulty. I would say exam difficulty is well justified.

Fees and Financial Aid

At the time of admission, students are to pay admission fees of ?1328 which includes first semester tuition fees and other (Library, Playground, Id card, etc). After that, tuition fees of every semester will be ?1050. So, the first year fees will be ?2378 and the following years will be ?2100. Mostly all scholarships are available to apply. Major scholarships like SVMCMS gives ?18000/year, SC ST SCHOLARSHIPS like OASIS are also available. Any catagory students (SC, ST & OBC) students have to pay the same amount as the general students. There is no such discount in fees for catagory students.

Campus Life

4

Our annual freshers welcome fest is Exuberance which is usually held in January. Not very big event but quite good as a government college. The library has huge collection of books and journals. Also students are given specific computers to study online in Library. Classrooms are decent and has good lighting and vents. Classrooms has whiteboards with projectors. We have a massive playground where students play many games everyday. We have many clubs in different subjects like art, singing, dance, etc. Also there is one student union and seniors of students union are very helpful.

Admission

I applied to Acharya Prafulla Chandra College beside this. But this college is closer to my house so i chose this one. For getting admitted to BARASAT GOVERNMENT COLLEGE, students need to appear in Higher Secondary or similar examinations with 60% or higher percentage. Catagory students can be admitted with at least 45% in higher secondary examination.

Faculty

3

Faculty-to-student ratio is good. There are 90 students in my department and first semester faculty count is 4. Faculties have well behaviour. They solves doubt with no other question asked. Chemistry faculties are so good. But some of physics faculties seem to be taking pity on us. There are 2 exams every semester one internal and one external. Exams are pretty easy and most of the students pass the exams.

Night Life

4

Cafeteria opens once in the noon. Library stays open till 5 p.m. Entry from outside is restricted after 5 p.m. as it is a day section college. There is no such hostels in our college. So students leave after scheduled classes. This college is close to BARASAT JUNCTION so, its very crowded area and many places are nearby to hangout. Many famous restaurants are also available nearby.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

Placement Experience:

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
