Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum has been updated thoroughly and core concepts that shape the thinking of an engineer are included. They might seem out of date but are really important to learn and understand. As we progress through our degree courses relevant to today's time and technology are taught. The curriculum in the pre final year really challenges the student and greatly aids in preparing oneself for real-world applications whereas the curriculum in the 2nd year are highly relevant for further academic pursuits.
Internships Opportunities
Lots of internship opportunites from BNY, Logitech, TCS etc I just gave my BNY exam today and we have tons of emails coming in almost every other day about new internship opportunities and this is a really big deal. Not having to go into the market and search urself to get internships. In easy terms i would say we are being bombarded with opportunities day and night.
Placement Experience
Placements are actually impressive with our college having the highest placement rate among others in the region. We usually achieve ~90% placement. We get opportunities from many large groups, such as Infosys, TCS, JPMC, BNY, Logitech, etc etc The list goes on. The highest package that I saw was of around 1Cr from a company I don't remember their name, but it was based out of SF and was a really great one. Average placement we see is around 12-20LPA packages.
Fees and Financial Aid
I pay 3 Lakhs per anum as my tuition fees and 1.5 Lakhs as my hostel fees. In my hostel fees boarding, laundry, food and gym is covered. An additional sum of 10k was paid in my first year as a security deposit for the hostel. I am unaware of any scholarshops or financial aid but have heard of such things being available and being utilized by other students.
Campus Life
Honestly speaking, I am conflicted a lot with this question. We have lots of social clubs but many of my peers are uninterested with this stuff and idk why. The fun in these things is with your friends but still these events are a great place for finding new friends and reconnecting with friends you have drifted apart from. We have our freshers party called Swagatham; cultural fest is called Rubaroo; technical fest is called Innovate. I am not a very sporty person but I have seen many inter institute events take place. Recently we also hosted and all India eSports competition which was super exciting.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is just the bare minimum of what i expect. Compared to gov institues, this place is heaven. But still hostels could do with a lot of improvement such as better ameneties such as a pool table or table tennis etc.
Admission
I applied for the JEE Mains exam but I had no preparation for it, I did no coaching for any engineering entrance exam, which lead to great anxiety during the JEE exam, this lead to me not achieving a great score in the exam. I was accepted into Christ University and Vellore Institute of Technology but the NIRF rank of SRM compelled me to join here. This campus being close to my hometown was the perfect choice for me. The admission process is really straightforward and I do not need to even describe it here it is soooooo simple.
Faculty
We have 2 internal exams for most of our subjects then a final end sem exam. The end sem exam is worth 40% of our grade. The remaining 60% is distributed according to the course between surprise tests, assignments and internal exams. I am unaware of the faculty-to-student ratio. But each semested I have had new professors that i have not been taught by. End sem exams are difficult compared to the internal exams since the externals cover the entire syllabus taught in the semester.
Night Life
We are allowed to wander around the campus till 9 PM and the entire campus is well lit. Many students play cricket in the ground at that hour before dinner. I have already mentioned that we have almost no famous hangout places which needs to be worked upon.
