University of Liverpool Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Liverpool University sets programme-specific academic and English thresholds, benchmarked to Indian bachelor’s percentage and Class 12 board scores.
- Postgraduate academic (2:1 courses): Bachelor’s with 60% to 70% or CGPA 6.0 to 7.0 out of 10 from a recognised Indian university (recommended); reflects a UK 2:1 honours equivalence.
- Postgraduate academic (2:2 courses): Bachelor’s with 50% to 60% or CGPA 5.0 to 6.0 out of 10 (recommended); applies to Advanced Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering and several MSc engineering routes.
- English test minimum: IELTS 6.5 overall with no component below 6.0 for most taught masters; some business and psychology courses require IELTS 7.0 overall with no component below 6.5.
- Credential verification: WES or ECCTIS statement of comparability; some professional courses request academic transcripts attested by the Indian embassy or MEA apostille.
Liverpool University accepts the following English tests for postgraduate entry: IELTS Academic 6.5 to 7.0 (component minimums vary), TOEFL iBT 88 overall (0 to 120 legacy scale) or 4.5 overall (1 to 6 scale for tests taken on or after 21 January 2026), PTE Academic 56 to 60, Duolingo English Test, LanguageCert Academic, PSI Skills for English, Oxford Test of English, Cambridge English and Trinity College London ISE. Verify course-specific component minimums at the official Liverpool English language tests page.
Key insight: An Indian bachelor’s degree taught entirely in English medium can waive the IELTS requirement at Liverpool for many taught masters, provided you supply an official medium-of-instruction letter from your Indian university with your transcripts; request this before you leave your undergraduate campus.
University of Liverpool Acceptance Rate 2027
Liverpool University does not publish an official overall acceptance rate. Third-party estimates converge on 40% (estimated) for international applicants, rising above 60% on generalist bachelor’s programmes and dropping below 20% on Medicine, Veterinary Science, LLB Law, MSc Data Science and the Liverpool MBA. Treat this figure as directional, not an official cut-off.
The rate is highest for well-prepared Indian applicants with a 2:1 bachelor’s, IELTS above 6.5 and a documented interest in the target discipline. For competitive programmes, decisions run on cohort quality rather than a fixed quota, so early applications carry an advantage.
Reality check: A 40% headline hides a wide spread; Data Science, Business Analytics and MBA cohorts fill before April on rolling review, so Indian applicants targeting these routes should submit by end-February with test scores in hand rather than waiting for the stated deadline.

University of Liverpool Campus, Facilities and Student Life
The main Liverpool University campus is a single 100-acre red-brick campus in Liverpool city centre, 10 minutes walk from Liverpool Central rail and Liverpool Lime Street mainline. All teaching, library and residence blocks sit inside this walkable footprint.
- Location and transport: Central Liverpool campus, 2 hours by train to London Euston, 30 minutes to Manchester, and 20 minutes by taxi to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
- Housing: First-year international applicants who accept by the housing deadline receive a guaranteed offer in university-managed halls; weekly rent bands sit at GBP 155 to 220 (INR 20,000 to 28,500).
- Notable facilities: Sydney Jones and Harold Cohen libraries with 24-hour study rooms; the Materials Innovation Factory research hub; Sports and Fitness Centre with 25 metre pool.
- Indian community: The Liverpool Indian Society, ISOC and dedicated PGT India induction cover Diwali, Holi and Republic Day events; the Confucius-style India Business Centre supports employability sessions.
What Indian students say: The city is affordable and welcoming, and shared houses in Kensington and Wavertree cost 30 to 40% less than London flats. Public transport within the city runs late, but weekend intercity travel needs booking two weeks ahead to keep railcard prices.

| Duncan Norman Research Scholarship | Doctoral | Full fees plus stipend | PhD applicants across faculties | Varies by faculty; verify at official URL |
[Source: University of Liverpool Master’s Scholarships page 2026/27]
Planning note: The Achievement and Subject awards stack, so a First Class Indian bachelor’s on an eligible MSc can cut GBP 7,000 (INR 9.1 lakh) from tuition; secure your 2:1 or First Class transcript translation before you request an offer letter, since scholarship allocation is triggered at the offer stage, not on arrival.

Liverpool University holds two QS top 50 subject placements in 2026: Veterinary Science and Anatomy and Physiology; a further 10 subjects sit inside the world top 100. Collegedunia Study Abroad ranks the university #20 in the UK, #58 for Healthcare and Medicine and #105 for Engineering. ARWU 2025 ranks Management #28 globally and Veterinary Sciences #32.
Key insight: A top-150 QS position keeps Liverpool University on the priority list for Indian public-sector education loans (SBI Global Ed-Vantage, Bank of Baroda) and satisfies the QS or THE thresholds set by Indian PSU recruiters at graduate roles, which pure UK domestic rankings do not always cover.

University of Liverpool Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Liverpool University reports strong graduate outcomes for its taught masters cohort, with a Careers and Employability Service running one-to-one Indian-student advisers.
- Employment rate: 88% of graduates in employment or further study within 15 months of graduation.
- Median MSc starting salary: GBP 26,000 to 32,000 (INR 33.6 to 41.4 lakh) — sector median across cohorts.
- Top recruiting sectors: Financial services, life sciences and pharmaceuticals, aerospace and automotive engineering, professional services and tech consulting.
- Career support: Handshake portal, mentoring circles, CV clinics and dedicated Graduate Route visa workshops for Indian applicants.
- Post-study work: 2-year Graduate Route visa on all taught masters completions; 3 years for PhD graduates, allowing unrestricted UK employment across sectors.
Insider note: Indian MBA and MSc Business Analytics graduates most often route into Manchester and London roles rather than staying in Liverpool; treat the Careers Service’s London on-campus assessment days in November and February as your primary interview pipeline for graduate schemes.
University of Liverpool vs Peer Universities
Liverpool University sits mid-Russell Group by QS rank; Indian applicants typically weigh it against Sheffield, Leeds, Nottingham and Queen Mary on similar tuition bands, ranking placement and post-study visa pathway.
| University | QS World 2027 | Collegedunia Study Abroad 2026 | Avg Annual PG Fee | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| University of Liverpool | #139 | #96 global, #20 UK | GBP 30,500 / INR 39.5 lakh | Veterinary and Anatomy in QS top 50 |
| University of Sheffield | #94 | #85 global | GBP 30,000 / INR 38.8 lakh | Strong engineering research at similar cost |
| University of Leeds | #82 | #78 global | GBP 32,000 / INR 41.4 lakh | Higher QS placement and larger city job market |
| University of Nottingham | #97 | #88 global | GBP 31,500 / INR 40.8 lakh | India-campus pathway available |
| Queen Mary University of London | #110 | #95 global | GBP 33,000 / INR 42.7 lakh | London location and higher post-graduate salary median |
Liverpool University stands out on subject strength in life sciences and veterinary, a lower cost-of-living city than London or Manchester, and India-restricted merit scholarships that its Russell Group peers do not match at the same value tier.
Liverpool University fits an Indian applicant with a mid-to-high bachelor’s percentage targeting a Russell Group masters in data, business, engineering or life sciences at a total investment near INR 47.9 to 64.1 lakh, with a two-year Graduate Route visa and a starting salary median above INR 33.6 lakh; the study in UK pathway pairs cleanly with SBI Global Ed-Vantage and Bank of Baroda education loans.
It is a weaker fit for applicants targeting a London-based finance career from day one, or seeking a top-50 QS badge on the degree certificate; the London School of Economics or Imperial College London remain sharper picks for those goals despite the higher fee band.
University of Liverpool FAQs
Ques. What programmes at the University of Liverpool are taught in English medium?
Ans. Every undergraduate, taught masters and doctoral programme at Liverpool University is delivered in English medium, including on the Bengaluru campus. No Liverpool programme requires a second European language for admission or study, though modern languages departments teach French, German, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin and Portuguese as electives. Indian applicants therefore need only meet the English proficiency threshold on IELTS, TOEFL, PTE or an equivalent accepted test.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Liverpool University?
Ans. Yes, Liverpool University’s Student Route visa allows up to 20 hours per week of paid work during term time and full-time work during official vacations. This applies to taught masters and undergraduate cohorts; PhD applicants have similar rights subject to their supervisor’s agreement. On-campus roles include library assistantships, student ambassadors and Careers Service peer mentors, typically paying GBP 12 to 14 per hour (INR 1,550 to 1,810).
Ques. Does the University of Liverpool waive GRE or GMAT for Indian applicants?
Ans. Liverpool University does not require GRE or GMAT for any taught masters programme, including MSc Data Science, MSc Finance and the Liverpool MBA. Indian applicants are assessed on their bachelor’s transcript, IELTS or equivalent English score, statement of purpose and, for the MBA, two references plus a minimum of three years’ work experience. GRE and GMAT are not part of the standard admission checklist for Indian postgraduate applicants.
Ques. How much application fee does Liverpool University charge Indian applicants?
Ans. Liverpool University charges no application fee for undergraduate direct-entry international applicants outside UCAS, and no application fee for the majority of taught masters courses. The Liverpool MBA is an exception with a GBP 60 (INR 7,770) application fee. UCAS undergraduate applications carry the standard UCAS fee, currently GBP 28.50 (INR 3,700) for a single choice, payable to UCAS rather than the university.
Ques. Which Indian banks recognise the University of Liverpool for education loans?
Ans. Liverpool University features on the pre-approved international university lists of SBI Global Ed-Vantage, Bank of Baroda, HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo and InCred. Loan amounts of INR 40 to 65 lakh are typically sanctioned against a Liverpool admission letter, tuition schedule and cost-of-living estimate. Its Russell Group and QS top-150 status makes it eligible for the higher unsecured slabs at HDFC Credila and Avanse without collateral for MSc and MBA applicants.
Ques. Does Liverpool University offer a dependent visa route for spouses of Indian applicants?
Ans. Yes, but only for PhD applicants and applicants on postgraduate research routes lasting nine months or longer under current UK Home Office rules effective from January 2024. Taught masters applicants can no longer bring dependents on Student Route dependent visas. PhD dependents require financial proof of GBP 845 per month (INR 1.09 lakh) for outside-London study for up to nine months, in addition to the applicant’s own maintenance funds.
Ques. Are conditional offers from Liverpool University valid for the deferred September 2028 intake?
Ans. Yes, Indian applicants who receive a conditional or unconditional offer for September 2027 can defer once to September 2028 for the same programme, subject to a written request submitted through the applicant portal at least six weeks before enrolment. Deferrals are not guaranteed on capped programmes such as Medicine, Veterinary Science and the MBA. The tuition fee applicable in the deferred year replaces the original fee schedule.
Ques. Is there an English language waiver route for Indian bachelor’s graduates at Liverpool University?
Ans. Yes, Indian applicants who completed a bachelor’s degree taught and examined entirely in English medium may qualify for an IELTS or TOEFL waiver on many Liverpool taught masters courses. The waiver requires an official medium-of-instruction letter on university letterhead confirming English as the sole language of instruction and assessment. Waivers are decided course-by-course; MBA, Investigative Psychology and Research Methods do not accept the waiver route.

- The university was great
- The professors were great and helpful. The university administration and professors were always available to clear doubts and any issues students faced.
- I was particularly happy about the Archaeology Labs University of Liverpool offered.
Campus Life
- The campus was within walking distance of my accommodation. They had a sports facility, various clubs, a swing pool, and a gym. The library was great. They have a system that helps students borrow books from a series of libraries across the country.
- They helped get both hard copies and soft copies, and this helped me a lot during my Master's Dissertation.
Fees
- My tuition was GBP 20100
Dislikes
- I do not dislike anything as such, but I'd love Uni of Liverpool to bring delegates for campus placements which will help their students land jobs or internships with a good guidance and that'll be a good kickstart to their career.
Campus Life
- We have a lot of committees that we could join as per our interests. And there are multiple in-class activities and seminars every week to have a hands-on knowledge and experience of your course to jump into your first job after your master's.
Fees
- It was approximately £25000 after deducting the scholarship.

- Amazing Campus
- Very nice and friendly staff
- Lots of societies and clubs that you can take part in apart from your studies, for example, cricket, table tennis, art & craft, theatre, swimming, water polo, drama, fencing and many more.
Dislikes
- Campus halls are very expensive
- There is no campus placement. If you need a job, you need to find it and apply for it.
- Not specific about the college, but the job market in the UK is not so good for international students. So, now think twice before coming to spend lots of money when there is no job guarantee.

Likes
- Campus: the campus is absolutely amazing. - - The buildings with very big classrooms and lecture halls. Very spacious and well ventilated for all seasons. There are lecture halls as well with a seating capacity for ~100 students. Designed in a way that everyone can see the professor and vice a versa. - The library: the campus has two very big and well equipped libraries with numerous rooms spaces and desks to book and study. From human body to astronomy, You can find books on every subject there. Very secure access as well. - The abercromby garden: An amazing patch of grass, rather a garden, which looks calm in winter with the dew droplets frozen and a thin blanket of snow and in summers, bustling with students, some reading, some sat with friends with sodas and some even sunbathing.
- The professors: all of them, very well qualified and resourceful. Some of them are task-masters but that is because they are perfectionists and just want the best for us.
- The curriculum: amazing course work. The professors make it even more interesting because of their teaching methodologies. The subject matter is very relevant to the real world and gives an insight into how companies function.
Dislikes
- Class timings: sometimes the class timings were not comfortable for people leaving a little aways from the campus.
- Diversity: Majority of the students were indians in my class. Wish it was more diverse.
- Medical facilities: could have had an on-campus / inhouse doctor who could help students with everyday ailments.
Campus Life
- Only one campus but different departments: management, engineering, medical and so on.
- There is an on-campus gym, swimming pool, basketball court, rock climbing, and indoor badminton and tennis courts.
- The campus has two very big and well-equipped libraries with numerous rooms spaces and desks to book and study. From the human body to astronomy, You can find books on every subject there. Very secure access as well.
- Events keep taking place throughout the entire year; be it career-related or bingo nights, everything is available. Along with bhangra classes, bake clubs, taylor swift clubs, F1 clubs and many more, there are 40+ clubs for students with varied interests that can be joined for free.
Fees
- My annual tuition was £23,000. We had to pay 60:40 in two instalments. One before the end of October and the next in the middle of February.
- I got 2000£+2500£=4500£ scholarship so i had to pay £18500 in total.
- No other charges towards university. But yeah, you would have to pay for the graduation gown.
- There are a variety of options for student accommodations. Budget-friendly and a little luxury ones as well.
- But roughly, let's say for a student, along with the rent, you might end up paying £700. £500 rent + £200 groceries.
- Now this is a very variable figure, as it depends on person to person. Liverpool is a very walkable city and accommodations are in close vicinity to the uni.
- Bus costs £3 per journey if someone needs it and there are buses to the campus. Need be, one can always take an uber.

Likes
- The campus is huge, especially the sports area, which includes massive stadiums, courts, a gym with advanced equipment, and professional personal trainers
- The two libraries and the support provided by them are commendable. Like if you have a laptop to work on your assignments, you have to take it from the library.
- The university's diversity is amazing, with students coming from different countries. You will be asked to work on group assignments where you can interact with students.
Dislikes
- The course structure is designed in a way where various topics are covered, but not in enough depth, so they add little to no value in your CV
- Assignments were too research-based based than practical. I would expect computer or technical courses to have technical assignments or projects where they can learn and work on skills in demand, and can help in your job search. Assignments are too theoretical
- A one-year master course is not enough with so many holidays in middle, capstone or industry internship ,certifications should be added
Campus Life
- There is only one campus but soon they will be opening another campus in India (Bangalore) in 2026.
- The university has all the major facilities, from 2 modern libraries to sports facilities and medical services and GP serives available and many student societies you can be part of. Different festivals are celebrated. Diwali and Holi are huge events as well. You can join cultural events as well and given enough exposure, depending on your interest,
Fees
- In 2021 university fee was 24,000 GBP
- I decided to stay in private accommodation, as that was cheaper, so it was around 5000 GBP annually. 105 GBP per week was my rent; food and other expenses depend on your lifestyle. Many expenses apart from rent were 200-300 GBP .
- Buses are usually 2 GBp for every ride but almost everywhere you get student discounts. Make sure to carry your student ID everywhere. restaurants buses shops you get 10-15% student discounts.

Likes
- It's a Russel group university
- The exposure is great
- The students union has numerous facilities
Dislikes
- It's expensive overall
- It's uni accomodation is quite expensive and not everyone can afford it
- Applying for scholarships and funding is a bit complicated
Campus Life
- The college is more than 100 acres and is situated in the center of Liverpool city. If you would like to let your dean know about your local festival that you celebrate, they will be more than happy to help you celebrate it on campus. The university has all sorts of sports and activities. All you have to do is sign up for it. There are also hundreds of societies.
Fees
- The fee is quite high. My course fees have gone up significantly since I finished uni. I had multiple scholarships so mine was significantly low. There were also students who came on full scholarship so that is also a possibility.
- However, a master's course would cost roughly 30-35k pounds for a year. The fee is charged at one go. You also have an option to pay it in instalments. The monthly expenses vary depending on where you rent and buy but I would say between 350 and 600 pounds for a single person, including everything.

Likes
- Liverpool Location is too good and friendly
- Staffs are very welcoming and easily approachable
- Campus is very neat and pleasant
Dislikes
- Career support is not enough proactive
- Limited employee engagement for my course
- Tuition fees keeps increasing every year
Campus Life
- Libraries , sports , well-being , guilds, biking , cafes, bars, and pools.
- Students can get involved in lot of activities through guild, like plant pot painting, well being acrobatic activities, sports activities, volunteering, gardening.
- There are options to take one-day trips through Guild.
- Now there is going to be a new campus in Bangalore and the main one is in Liverpool.
Fees
- It depends on each course; for me it was £21,000, where I got a £5,000 scholarship for academic excellence. I stayed out of the campus and rented a 1 BHK for £800 per month, excluding bills. Fees can be paid in two instalments. I lived with my family and rented a 1 BHK and my monthly expenses came to around £2500; provided my partner works full time , this is manageable.
- But for students it should be much less than this, as they can find rooms for less than £150 per week and everything is accessible from the university campus.

Likes
- Friendly staff.
- Student support throughout the campus.
- Many events to help unfold the students talents other than studies.
Dislikes
- Mass lectures combining other students.
- Using one student from every course to represent.
- Class representatives were selected without getting into others notice.
Campus Life
- There is one main campus called guild and the buildings are surrounded by the city.
- There are 2 libraries; 1 museum; a sports hall; a swimming pool; and a study space for students, which can be booked online.
- There are many clubs in the university, like Hindu society, Musical band, Sports team, etc.
- There are many events planned through societies every week, every month and can attend everything by registering, for example each and every festival is celebrated in Indian society
Fees
- Fees for MSc International Business were £23000 in the year 2022, but I paid 18500 because of my scholarship.
- Accommodation was £8500 per year.
- Fees could be paid either in full or semester-wise.
- An estimated monthly expense would be £1000 per month, including rent, travelling and food. This is the Basic expenses and you need more if you are spending it for luxury.
