Queen Mary University of London Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

QMUL evaluates Indian applicants on academic strength, English proficiency and, for select finance-heavy programmes, standardised test scores.

  • UG general entry: Class XII (CBSE, ISC, or a recognised State Board) at 75 to 90%.
  • PG taught entry: a Bachelor’s at 60 to 80%.
  • English floor: IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each component covers most PG taught and mid-tier UG courses. Law LLB, LLM, Arts, and clinical Dentistry sit one band higher.
  • English language requirements: IELTS Academic: 6.0 – 7.0, TOEFL iBT: 4.5 – 5.0, PTE Academic: 65 – 76

Key insight: QMUL waives IELTS for Indian applicants whose Class 12 English was taken in English medium at CBSE, ICSE or a recognised state board with 70% or higher, subject to Admissions Office confirmation on a per-application basis.

Queen Mary University of London Acceptance Rate 2027

QMUL’s overall undergraduate acceptance rate sat at 13.6% (estimated) for the 2025 cycle, based on 5,920 admits from 43,590 applications. The international UG cohort saw a wider 29% (estimated) admission share, reflecting programme-specific competitiveness inside the School of Business and Management and the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science.

Selectivity varies sharply by programme. High-demand streams like MSc Business Analytics, MSc Investment Banking and Medicine sit well below the headline rate. Broader arts and humanities taught masters remain more accessible for Indian applicants with a solid 2:1-equivalent transcript.

Reality check: Indian applicants often overestimate the headline UG rate. For QMUL’s competitive postgraduate business streams, plan a strong statement of purpose, one to two years of quantitative work experience and IELTS 7.0 to convert a borderline profile.

Queen Mary University of London Campus, Facilities and Student Life

QMUL is the only London Russell Group university with a fully self-contained campus, spread across Mile End and three specialist medical sites at Whitechapel, Charterhouse Square and West Smithfield.

  • Location and transport: Mile End station on the Central, District and Hammersmith and City lines links the campus to the City of London in 12 minutes
  • Housing: QMUL guarantees on-campus accommodation for all first-year international undergraduates; rent bands run £ 165 to £ 285 (₹ 21,000 to ₹ 36,000) per week
  • Notable facility: The Blizard Institute at Whitechapel houses one of Europe’s largest cell biology research clusters; the Mile End library operates 24 hours during exam terms
  • Indian community: QMUL’s Indian Society and Bhangra Society are among the most active in East London, running Diwali, Holi and Republic Day events on the Mile End Green

What Indian students say: Indian postgraduates typically flag the East London location as affordable relative to central Russell Group peers, praise the Careers Centre’s LinkedIn workshops, and note that Mile End’s Bengali community and South Asian food streets around Whitechapel ease the first-semester adjustment.

Queen Mary University of London Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

QMUL reports strong graduate outcomes across taught and research programmes, backed by consistent placement inside High Fliers’ Graduate Market top-20 target list.

  • Employment within 15 months: 93% of QMUL graduates in employment or further study, per the Graduate Outcomes survey
  • Employer targeting: QMUL ranks #16 in the High Fliers Graduate Market 2026 report among UK universities most targeted by top graduate employers, and #11 for UK employability comparators in 2026
  • Top recruiter sectors: investment banking, corporate law, technology consulting, life sciences and NHS clinical roles; representative employers include Barclays, EY, PwC and NHS Trust hospitals across East London
  • Median UK PG starting salary (market benchmark): £ 32,000 to £ 38,000 (₹ 40.7 Lakh to ₹ 48.3 Lakh), based on London Russell Group PG norms; QMUL-specific figures not disclosed centrally
  • Post-study route: Indian graduates qualify for the UK Graduate Route two-year visa, extendable to three years for PhDs, permitting unrestricted work while on-visa

Insider note: Indian QMUL alumni cluster into London-based fintech, City of London law firms and NHS clinical training rotations. The Careers and Enterprise team runs targeted Big Four and boutique consulting recruiting drives at Mile End every October and February.

QMUL is a Russell Group London degree at a workable investment for Indian postgraduates targeting the UK Graduate Route. Total 12-month spend of ₹ 65 Lakh to ₹ 80 Lakh matches median London Russell Group PG starting salaries in banking, law and technology. The single strongest advantage is a QS-100-adjacent brand backed by a self-contained campus and the two-year UK universities Graduate Route pathway.

It is not the right fit for applicants targeting the QS top-30 elite bracket, a lower-cost regional UK option, or a niche specialisation not covered at Mile End. The most realistic alternative for such candidates is the University of Manchester, which offers Russell Group status at a lower London-cost overhead.

Queen Mary University of London FAQs

Ques. What English language tests does Queen Mary University of London accept beyond IELTS?

Ans. QMUL accepts PTE Academic, Cambridge C1 Advanced, Cambridge C2 Proficiency, Oxford Test of English Advanced, and Trinity ISE II, III and IV in place of IELTS. Each carries its own band 1 to 5 minimum score with published component minimums. QMUL does not currently list Duolingo English Test as an accepted qualification. All scores must fall within two years of the course start date.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at QMUL?

Ans. Yes. Indian students on a UK Student Route visa can work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full time during official vacation periods. Roles must not include self-employment, business partnerships or professional sports. QMUL’s Careers and Enterprise team maintains a live job board covering on-campus roles, East London retail and graduate internships tied to the School of Business and Management.

Ques. Are GRE or GMAT scores required for QMUL MSc programmes?

Ans. QMUL does not mandate GRE or GMAT for most taught masters, including MSc Data Science, MSc Business Analytics and MSc International Business. Certain finance-focused streams such as MSc Finance with CFA integration, MSc Investment Banking and MSc Wealth Management encourage GMAT scores at applicant discretion to strengthen borderline profiles. Confirm requirements on each course’s Entry Requirements section before applying to QMUL.

Ques. Does QMUL run interviews or portfolio reviews for taught masters?

Ans. Most QMUL taught masters admit purely on academic transcripts, English scores and a personal statement. Exceptions include creative programmes at the School of the Arts, which may request a written or visual portfolio, and selected MSc Clinical Dentistry streams that shortlist candidates for online interviews. Programme-level requirements sit on each course page under the How to Apply section on the QMUL website.

Ques. Which Indian education loan lenders recognise QMUL for financing?

Ans. QMUL sits on the approved-university list of major Indian public-sector lenders such as State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Union Bank of India, as well as private lenders including HDFC Credila, Avanse Financial Services, InCred and Auxilo. NBFC lenders typically fund tuition plus one year of living costs up to ₹ 1.5 Crore. QMUL supplies loan sanction letters directly to lenders during CAS issuance.

Ques. How does QMUL handle conditional offers and CAS issuance for Indian applicants?

Ans. QMUL issues conditional offers on interim transcripts and pending final results. Applicants must satisfy academic, English and financial conditions by 6 September 2027 for the September intake. Once conditions clear and the £ 2,000 deposit is paid, QMUL releases a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) reference used to file the UK Student Route visa. The CAS request deadline for September 2027 is 13 September 2027.

  • There are a lot of campuses spread out in London based on their course offerings and facilities. There are several clubs like I was involved in gaming club, events and extracurriculars were almost every week we were having something new.
  • The library is very good, a whole block just of books, if I could i would have stayed there forever.

  • Queen Mary has one of the biggest campuses in london. The campus was very beautiful and each university building has different sections. Our campus included 3-4 cafeterias. The library also had different sections and the staff was very smooth with all the functionality.
  • Campus also included a club-type area where all the fresher parties used to be conducted. Extracurricular activities like games, seminars, sports, etc., were conducted in a timely manner

  • When I was new in London, events and fests organized by the university were the icebreakers for me. I have met so many people through these events, made unforgettable memories, and made friends for life. There was a Diwali party and Holi organized by the university and the Indian club. DJ nights at Drapers. Drapers is our very own club.
  • We have an e-library; we can browse it from anywhere and anytime we want, and I think that is one of the best things. We have group study rooms and private study rooms. My campus is located in Mile End, London.

  • I didn't avail hostel in case of university accommodation the monthly charges including all the bills would have been 650 Pounds per month.

  • We had classes in 4 different buildings, and it's a pretty big campus as it covers all different courses you almost have two tube stations from one end to the other.
  • The cafeteria is a big plus here and you'll find half of the people there always, you can completely depend on it for lunch or breakfast.
  • The library is pretty good with all books available for assignments or otherwise.
  • We had 4 big events I think during our time there and also 2 outside the campus events and there were elections, dance, cultural competitions and also we had trips to nearby London where we could go with the University.

  • My college has two campuses. My campus was Mile End Campus and it is the main campus of the University. The other campus is in the city centre and is mainly for Law students.
  • My campus had a huge library which was accessible 24x7 and had a good collection. Everything was done online - issuing books and giving it back. There are many clubs including Hindu society, Cricket club, Running club - to name a few.
  • As I was pursuing a Masters course, we weren't very interested in participating much in activities and those things are mostly for Bachelor's students.

Fees

  • My total expenses for 1 year was - Rs. 55L
  • Scholarship received from State Govt - 38.5L
  • Tuition - 28.5L
  • Accommodation Rent - 14,50,000
  • Food (Tiffin Service) - 2,50,000 (5 times a week)
  • Other expenses include - Eating out, Travelling and Liesure activities.
  • My rent is a bit higher cause I chose the accommodation right opposite to my campus and lived alone in a studio. Students can choose private housing or even University housing and share their rooms with other folks which can decrease the rent significantly.

Overview

I primarily chose Queen Mary University due to its research-oriented approach towards academics. I had an eagle eye on the curriculum for my specific course and the teaching methodology they employed. It is also a Russell group university which gives it prestige. I chose the UK as it is the best for my course- English Literature, specifically London, as it is the city for arts and writing. In conclusion, it was a great experience and taught me a plethora of things besides academics.

For masters, since it is a one year we have a few on-campus programmes ranging from cultural events to career fairs. We have several societies to serve the interests of all students. From literature, dance, and music to sports and cooking, the university has it all.

Overview

I chose this university because the fees were not that high, and it ranked in the top 50 in the world, hence I went for this university. I also reached out to past graduates, they described it as a good university of finance as well and hence I went for it.
