Oxford Brookes University is a public modern university in Oxford, England, ranked #411 in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and #38 in the United Kingdom. The Headington campus sits three kilometres from the historic city centre and hosts more than 3,400 international students from 145 countries.

The university runs undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across business, computing, architecture, hospitality, health sciences and engineering, all taught in English, with two live intakes each academic year (September and January) plus a small May window for selected business courses. Indian applicants are the second largest non-EU cohort, drawn to Oxford Brookes for its MBA universities in the UK standing and its QS-ranked #21 Hospitality and Leisure programme.

  • QS World Rank 2027: #411 (UK #38)
  • Acceptance Rate: 31% (estimated)
  • Intakes: September, January and May (selected business courses)
  • PG Tuition Range: GBP 18,300 to GBP 20,100 (INR 23.9 to 26.3 lakh)

Oxford Brookes offers a fixed GBP 2,000 International Student Scholarship as an automatic tuition discount, with additional Business School awards on top. Indian applicants use the direct application portal for masters degrees and UCAS for bachelors, with the Graduate Route visa allowing a two-year post-study work stay after course completion. Living costs in Oxford run higher than most UK cities, so study in UK financial planning matters early.

Exchange rate used: 1 GBP = INR 130.74 as of August 2026

Admission Status: Open (January 2027 intake). Applications for the January 2027 intake opened in August 2026 for selected undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with course-specific deadlines running through mid-December 2026. The next cycle, for September 2027 entry, is expected to open in October 2026 on a rolling basis with a 31 July 2027 close pattern based on the previous cycle.

Oxford Brookes University Admission 2027

Oxford Brookes runs three intakes each academic year: September (primary), January (secondary) and May for a small set of business courses. Indian applicants overwhelmingly target the September intake, with January used as a top-up window when September deadlines are missed.

Most postgraduate courses use rolling admissions with course-specific closing dates published on individual programme pages, while UCAS handles undergraduate applications on the standard national calendar.

Oxford Brookes University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Oxford Brookes admission requirements for Indian students are graded by the classification of the awarding Indian institution, with lower percentages accepted from centrally-funded national institutes than from private universities.

  • Bachelor’s degree (PG entry): 55% from a national institute, 60% from a central or state university, or 65% from a private/deemed university — mapped to a UK 2:2 honours degree
  • English language: IELTS 6.0 overall (with 6.0 in reading and writing, 5.5 in listening and speaking), TOEFL iBT 72, PTE Academic 65, or Duolingo English Test 110 — Class 12 English at 60% or above accepted as waiver for most courses
  • Credential verification: Transcripts uploaded directly; WES not mandatory but recommended for older qualifications
  • Pre-CAS interview: All offer holders complete an Enroly CAS Shield interview before visa documents are issued

Class 12 entry for undergraduate bachelors sits at 65% to 70%, mapped to A-level tariff points (70% equates to an ABB profile). English waivers require 60% in Class 12 English for standard courses and 70% for higher-tier courses like Education and Law.

TOEFL iBT scores may be reported on either the legacy 0-120 scale (tests taken before 21 January 2026) or the new 1-6 band scale (tests on or after that date), both accepted by Oxford Brookes. GMAT or GRE is not required for the Global MBA or MSc International Business Management.

Key insight: The Class 12 English waiver is the fastest route to a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) letter. If your CBSE or CISCE English mark clears 60%, upload the mark sheet at application stage and skip the IELTS booking entirely — this alone can save four to six weeks in the admission timeline.

Oxford Brookes University Acceptance Rate 2027

Oxford Brookes does not publish an official institution-wide acceptance rate. Third-party analysis of admission volumes suggests the university admits roughly 31% (estimated) of applicants across all programmes, though acceptance varies sharply by course. Business, Computing, Data Science and Architecture run tighter cohorts, while Nursing, Midwifery and Physiotherapy are the most selective on account of NHS-linked placement caps.

Two context lines matter for Indian applicants: first, admission is holistic and course-specific rather than a single institutional cut-off. Second, meeting the published academic minimum does not guarantee an offer for capped programmes; a strong personal statement and demonstrated subject alignment carry real weight.

Reality check: Indian applicants meeting the 55% bachelor threshold receive offers on 70% to 80% of business, marketing and hospitality masters applications, but that hit rate drops sharply for Architecture, Nursing and Data Science where portfolios, prerequisite modules and cohort caps decide the outcome.

Oxford Brookes University Campus, Facilities and Student Life

Oxford Brookes operates from three campuses in Oxford, with the flagship Headington Campus (Gipsy Lane and Marston Road sites) three kilometres east of the city centre and connected by the Brookes bus every 10 minutes.

  • Location and transport: Headington sits on the eastern edge of Oxford with direct bus links to central Oxford in 15 minutes and to London Victoria in 100 minutes
  • Housing: Self-catered halls at GBP 135 to GBP 240 per week; accommodation is guaranteed for all new international students who apply by the published deadline
  • Notable facility: The John Henry Brookes Building at Headington houses the main library, 24/7 study spaces, the students’ union and the Forum food court
  • Indian student community: Active Indian Society running Diwali, Holi and Republic Day celebrations, plus a regional food-and-culture calendar through the year

What Indian students say: Oxford is safe and walkable but noticeably more expensive than northern UK cities like Manchester or Leeds. Part-time work at Oxford cafes and retail pays the London minimum wage rate and is easy to find within the first month.

Oxford Brookes University Rankings 2027

Oxford Brookes is ranked #411 in the QS World University Rankings 2027 and is placed #38 among UK universities, holding position in the top-tier band across four consecutive editions.

Subject strengths cluster around Hospitality (QS #21 global), Psychology (THE #251-300), Arts and Humanities (THE #301-400) and Education (THE #301-400). Business and Economics sits in the THE #401-500 band. On Collegedunia Study Abroad, Oxford Brookes places #111 globally for Business and #12 in the UK.

Key insight: Oxford Brookes clears the QS-top-500 threshold that most Indian employers and public sector recruiters use as the credibility floor for a UK masters, so a Brookes degree is treated on par with mid-tier Russell Group universities in the Indian job market despite Brookes being a post-92 modern university (created from a polytechnic in 1992).

Oxford Brookes University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Oxford Brookes graduates post strong six-month employment outcomes, supported by the university’s WAVES (Work and Voluntary Experience Service) team and structured placement years across most bachelors and selected masters.

  • Employment within 6 months: 93.2% of graduates in employment or further study
  • Average graduate salary: GBP 32,000 (INR 41.8 lakh)
  • Placement duration: Undergraduate 40 to 52 weeks; postgraduate 40 weeks
  • Representative employers: Hospitality (Fairmont, IHG, Marriott), technology (Amazon), professional services (PwC), finance and marketing sectors
  • Post-study visa: Two-year Graduate Route visa for masters graduates; three years for PhD holders

Insider note: Hospitality and Business graduates place fastest into UK roles thanks to Oxford’s proximity to London and the strong regional tourism sector, while Computing and Data Science graduates tend to relocate to London, Reading or Manchester for their Graduate Route roles.

Oxford Brookes University vs Peer Universities

Peer set for Oxford Brookes combines mid-tier UK modern universities that Indian applicants shortlist alongside it, plus two cross-country reference points from Australia and Ireland.

UniversityQS Rank 2027Collegedunia Study AbroadAvg Annual PG FeeOne-line differentiator

University of Hertfordshire#851NAGBP 17,050 (INR 22.3 lakh)London commute belt, aerospace focus

Oxford Brookes stands out on two data points: the Oxford postcode carries genuine employer signal for hospitality and business graduates, and the QS #21 Hospitality and Leisure ranking is materially stronger than any UK peer at the same fee band. Applicants prioritising engineering or STEM should compare fees against Coventry; those chasing lower cost should look at De Montfort or Hertfordshire.

Oxford Brookes is the right choice for the Indian applicant who wants a UK masters at a total investment of INR 45 to 55 lakh, a QS-top-500 credential and a two-year Graduate Route visa, with Hospitality and Business as the strongest disciplines. The Oxford location layers on genuine brand equity in the Indian job market, and an average graduate salary of GBP 32,000 covers the tuition outlay within the first post-study in UK year.

It is not the right fit for STEM-heavy applicants targeting research-led computing or engineering (better fits: University of Reading or Queen Mary University of London), nor for applicants who need a Russell Group brand for competitive Indian public sector roles.

Oxford Brookes University FAQs

Ques. How many hours can Indian students work part-time at Oxford Brookes?

Ans. Indian students on a Student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full-time during official vacation periods at Oxford Brookes. Roles must be non-self-employed and pay at least the UK National Minimum Wage of GBP 12.21 per hour (as of April 2026). Common jobs include retail, hospitality, campus student ambassador roles and the university’s WAVES-listed positions. Working hours are logged by employers and checked against visa compliance at CAS renewal.

Ques. Does Oxford Brookes offer conditional offers to Indian applicants?

Ans. Yes, Oxford Brookes issues conditional offers when Indian applicants are still awaiting final Class 12 results, bachelor’s final semester marks or an English language test score. The offer letter specifies each pending condition with a deadline, typically the CAS-issue date. Once all conditions are met and documents uploaded to Enroly CAS Shield, the offer converts to unconditional and the CAS letter is issued for visa application.

Ques. What is the application fee for Oxford Brookes University?

Ans. Oxford Brookes does not charge an application fee for direct postgraduate applications submitted through the university portal. Undergraduate applications submitted via UCAS carry the standard UCAS fee of GBP 28.50 for a single choice or GBP 28.50 for multiple choices in the 2026-27 cycle. Indian applicants pay a tuition deposit of GBP 3,000 to GBP 5,000 (course-dependent) only after accepting an offer, not at application stage.

Ques. Which Indian education loan providers recognise Oxford Brookes?

Ans. Oxford Brookes is on the approved university list of all major Indian education loan providers including SBI, HDFC Credila, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Prodigy Finance and Avanse. Collateral-free loans up to INR 50 lakh are typical for postgraduate courses given Brookes’ QS-top-500 status. Prodigy Finance and Leap Finance offer USD-denominated loans for the Global MBA without Indian collateral.

Ques. Can I bring dependents on my Oxford Brookes student visa?

Ans. Under UK rules effective January 2024, only postgraduate research (PhD) and government-sponsored students can bring dependents on the Student visa route. Taught masters students at Oxford Brookes, including MBA and MSc programmes, cannot bring a spouse or children on the dependent visa. PhD students must show additional funds of GBP 845 per month per dependent for up to nine months, on top of their own maintenance requirement.

Ques. Does Oxford Brookes require GMAT or GRE for the Global MBA?

Ans. No, Oxford Brookes does not require GMAT or GRE scores for admission to the Global MBA or any MSc business programme. Selection for the MBA is based on academic qualifications, minimum three years of managerial or professional work experience, two written references and an online interview conducted by the Business School. ACCA members receive fast-track admission without the interview requirement.

Ques. What is the refund policy if my Oxford Brookes visa is refused?

Ans. Oxford Brookes refunds the tuition deposit in full, less a small administrative charge, if a Student visa refusal is issued on grounds outside the applicant’s control (such as an ECO error). Applicants must submit the refusal letter within 30 days of the decision. If the refusal is due to submitted documents being fraudulent or misleading, no refund is issued. The GBP 2,000 International Student Scholarship deposit component is not refundable.

Ques. Are Oxford Brookes degrees recognised by UGC for Indian jobs?

Ans. Yes, Oxford Brookes degrees are recognised in India through the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) equivalence process, which most Indian public sector employers, PSUs and universities accept for job or PhD applications. Indian graduates typically obtain the AIU equivalence certificate within four to six weeks of submitting their degree and transcript. Private sector employers in India accept Oxford Brookes degrees directly without requiring AIU equivalence.

  • There are 3 campuses, but I like Headington campus as my course was in that campus. There are a lot of extracurricular and open days with leading industry companies to gain real-time experience, which I found very useful, especially when you bring the theoretical and practical knowledge to use! And build real real-time connection.

  • There are 2 campuses: one is totally for motorsport and the other for other courses, which is the main campus. Campus has almost everything from a library, where it's very easy to track any book you want to refer to, to sports teams for varied sports and medical facilities for dentistry and other things as well but over here in the UK, you have to get registered with a GP (medical facility) near your residing location, which is done online so one has to visit the same doctor whenever required unless and until there is any emergency.
  • There are many events or fests happening throughout the year; there are even indian festivals celebrated, as there are more indian students and plus there is indian cultural team handling all of these events. There are many academic events as well, where sometimes we have to visit some offices or sites or there are visits by some representatives from different offices to the university. There are other benefits of an on-campus gym: sports at a discounted rate for students.

  • There are 2 main campuses for Oxford Brookes University. One is Headington, the main campus, and the second is Harcourt Hill, but they are shifting to Headington in 2025. Every single facility is available at the university, be it a sports centre or swimming pool.
  • One popular fest would be Brookes Union Fest. This is the biggest fest and also you get to attend career fairs and a lot of fun activities. They regularly take you to different historical places also.

  • There are four different campuses of the University, Headington being the main one.
  • There are lots of facilities across the campuses, namely a library, sports ground, gym, cafeterias, study places, labs, test beds, etc.
  • My campus used to be Wheatley Campus, but for the new semester, we were shifted to the Headington campus.
  • There are a lot of festivals and celebrations done across the year, and various national clubs also exist, making the university quite multi-cultural. The university also hosts a number of events that the students enjoy throughout the year.

Overview

For academic reasons. It is one of the best universities in the world. They have a large Russian department and a research program for experts in the field. They give you the chance to attend very small classes (1 or 2 people).

Fees

Loans are available for fees ($9250 per year). Other charges include accommodation and living expenses. A maintenance loan is also available for this.
