Should you pick BA Journalism at Christ University?

This course suits students who like to write, want to work in news or digital media and can pay a private university fee.

Pick it if:
You want a media job in a big city: Bangalore has newsrooms and PR firms, and Deccan Herald and Network 18 have hired from here.
You want to write from the first year: you do an internship at the end of semester 2 and work on lab journals and news productions.
You want a degree with a research year: year 4 is the Honours year, with research work after three years of study.
You are from Karnataka: you pay INR 1.25 Lakhs a year, which is less than the fee for students from other states.
Skip it if:
You need a sure job after the course: only 55% of Christ's UG batch was placed, and this course has no separate figure.
You want a hostel room with food: the hostel fee list covers the room only, so plan for food and ask about hostel seats early.
You want the fee back fast: the full fee of INR 5.88 Lakhs is more than the median UG pay of INR 5.36 LPA.
You will apply only after the board result: you can apply before the result, so take an early test session and keep more choices open.
Counsellor's advice
If Christ gives you an offer and you want media work in Bangalore, pay the fee in time. If you need a sure job, keep a second college ready.

FAQs on Christ University BA Journalism

Straight answers to what students ask before they decide.

Is BA Journalism at Christ University worth the fee?
Yes, if you want media work in a big city and can pay. The full fee without hostel is INR 5.88 Lakhs, and Christ UG graduates of 2024 got a median pay of INR 5.36 LPA. So the fee takes a little over a year of pay to cover. Check the EMI line in the fee block above if a loan will pay for it.
What job can I get after this course?
Most students go into reporting, digital media, public relations or content work. Deccan Herald, Network 18, The News Minute, Reuters, Edelman and EY have hired from Christ. Christ does not publish placement figures for this course alone, so build a set of your published articles and videos from the first year.
Who should not take this course here?
Skip it if you need a sure job at the end, or if you cannot pay about INR 1.45 Lakhs a year. Only 55% of the Christ UG batch of 2024 was placed, and this course has no separate figure. If a quick job matters most, look at a course with published placement numbers.
Should I stay for the fourth Honours year or stop after three years?
Stay for the fourth year if you plan a master's degree or research. The Honours year adds research work and one more year's fee of INR 1.45 Lakhs. If you want to start work early, check with the department when you join whether you can leave after three years with a BA degree.
Is this course good for higher studies?
Yes. The fourth year is the Honours year with research, which helps a master's application. NIRF data shows 2,039 of the Christ UG graduates of 2024 went on to higher studies. Talk to your teachers in year 3 about a research project if you plan to study further.
Is this course right for me if my English is not strong?
It will be hard at first. The course pairs journalism with English, and the skill assessment asks you to write two short articles. If writing in English is not your strength, practise writing news reports before the test and read one newspaper every day.
Should I wait a year to get into Christ?
No, unless you missed every session. Christ holds entrance test sessions in Dec, Apr and May, so you get more than one try in the same year. If one session goes badly, apply for the next session instead of waiting a full year.
Is Bangalore a good city for journalism internships?
Yes. Bangalore has newsrooms, PR firms and digital media offices, and you do an internship at the end of semester 2. Use it to work in a newsroom or a digital media team, because editors ask for published work when they hire.
How do I get admission to this course?
Apply online and pick a session for the Christ University Entrance Test. After the test you face a skill assessment, a micro presentation and an interview. The result comes within 48 hours, and you must pay the fee within 5 working days, or you lose the seat.
What is the full fee for the course?
The full 4-year fee is INR 5.88 Lakhs without hostel for students from other states. With a boys' triple hostel room it comes to INR 7.49 Lakhs. Students from Karnataka pay INR 1.25 Lakhs a year instead of INR 1.45 Lakhs. The fee block above shows each part.
Can I pay the fee in parts?
Yes. You pay the tuition fee year by year, and Christ also has a facility to pay a year's fee in two parts. Ask the Office of Admissions for the form before the fee date. The first year's fee is due within 7 days of the offer.
Which scholarships can I get here?
You can get up to half the tuition fee through the Christ financial assistance scholarship if your family income is low. The merit scholarship returns 10% of the yearly fee if your marks stay high. Use the scholarship calculator above to see which ones fit your answers.

Christ University: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 1 Reviews

Admission requires an entrance exam covering subjects like English, logical reasoning, critical reasoning, general knowledge, and current affairs related to journalism. Applicants must also write two articles for a skill assessment test and participate in an interview. Faculty members are well-educated and experienced, particularly noted for their approachable nature in the media department. The School of Social Sciences offers courses with fees under 1 lakh, which is considered low compared to other colleges.

In contrast, the Bachelor of Business Studies program has fees over 1 lakh, aligning with typical costs at other institutions. Christ University ranks among the top 10 for placements across various courses. While the journalism program is relatively new, the university has a strong history of undergraduate students securing international opportunities. Although Christ University does not directly provide internships, it collaborates with reputable NGOs, helping students establish valuable professional contacts.

Does Christ University Bangalore offer placements for Law courses?

Vipul MishraLLM in Intellectual Property and Trade Law from Christ University (2016 - 2018 Batch)

SLCU Christ University is one of the best private Law colleges in India. SLCU Law ranking by IIRF is 16 out of 50 in India in 2024 and it was ranked #17 out of 70 by India Today in 2023.

I did my LLM in Intellectual Property and Trade Law from SLCU Christ University in 2018. I can say it is one of the top private universities to do LLM courses because of its education Quality, teaching methods, etc. SLCU offers decent placements with lucrative offers and high ROI. The Department has a seperate placement cells which guides and trains students for placements, how to face Group discussions for interviews, etc. Right from the final semester SLCU's active placement cells starts teaching students; how to sit for the interview, to talk and negotiate for high package, building an attractive CV, etc. The average CTC package when I completed my graduation at SLCU Christ University was between INR 4 - 7 LPA and for sure it is above INR 7 LPA these days. Luthra and Luthra, S&R Associates, Khaitan & Co., Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and AZB & Partners are some top recruiters in SLCU for LLM graduates.

Pursuing a LLM course from SLCU Christ University Bangalore at a fees of INR 2.50 Lakhs is not expensive as per my perspective. For financially weaker students, SLCU Christ University Bangalore also provides Education Loan and many scholarships. I myself was one such user to get Scholarships from Christ University. Scholarships at SLCU are offered based on academic results of a student during LLM course. When compared to other colleges offering LLM and the Education Quality and facilities offered at Christ University, fees is reasonable.

Can I pursue LLB from Christ University without BBA or BA?

Rohan TiwariLLM from Christ University (2016 Batch)

No, you cannot pursue LLB from Christ University without BBA or BA. My name is Rohan Tiwari. I have completed an LLM from Christ University. This is the same question that I had before.

Christ University, Bangalore offers different law courses including integrated LLB and LLM. School of love Christ University does not offer a direct LLB course. Candidates wishing to pursue LLB course must have to complete 10 + 2 or any Bachelors Degree for minimum 3 years. One cannot opt LLB without any prior Bachelor's degree. But if anyone likes to do only LLB then they have to spend 1 year extra which means that if someone has intentionally or unintentionally completed a 3-years degree course like BA, BCom, BBA, etc. then one can pursue a 3 years LLB course. So I have done BA Hons from Pune University but due to the transfer of my father, we relocated to Bangalore and later on I got interested in Law studies so I opted for a 3-years LLB course at Christ University. I spent 6-years for BA and LLB courses. So according to my experience it is better to pursue integrated LLB courses with BBA / BA or BCom, etc.

I have completed an MBA in Human Resources Management from Christ University in 2019. As per my knowledge, experience plays an important role in MBA admission into any top College/ University like Christ.

MBA Admissions at Christ University are entrance-based. Aspirants must qualify an MBA entrance and face GD PI rounds to get admission. For some MBA specializations and Executive MBA, one may also be asked for a minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in the relevant field.

After my bachelor's, I started working in a 4-star hotel and took a break from my studies. There I worked for 2 years and gained important knowledge and skills. I was given preference over other candidates because of my work experience.

This is how work experience plays a role in MBA admissions at Christ University.
