Mumbai University Admission 2018 for UG, PG, MSc, PhD and Distance Learning (IDOL) Courses

Mumbai University is one of the oldest and largest university in the country comprising more than 700 affiliated colleges with various programs offered under six different faculties i.e Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Technology & Sports. Courses offered by Mumbai University include various Certificate, Diploma, Graduation, Post-Graduation, PG Diploma and PhD programs in multiple specializations. The university follows semester pattern for all of its courses and the exams are conducted twice a year viz. October/ November for odd semester and April/ May for even semester. Candidates can check their University of Mumbai Results through the official website of the university.

For the Academic Session 2017-18, Mumbai University started its admission process from May 2017. Check the table 1.1 to get precise or tentative dates of the release of Mumbai University Application Form and Merit Lists. The university is frequently visited by the top companies including TCS, Syntel, Accenture, Flipkart, HCL for the recruitment process, candidates can go through the university placement section for more details regarding Average package offered by the companies.

Mumbai University Application Forms can be filled through online admission portal provided by the university on its official website. Candidates seeking admission can log on to the official application portal to register themselves for the courses. The university announces merit list for admission to different colleges of the the university on the college website and candidates can download it to confirm their seat.

University does not have any engineering and medical sciences department. Admission for B. Tech, M. Tech and MBBS courses at privately owned colleges is conducted through JEE Main and NEET. Law Faculty of the University also takes a separate entrance test for LLB and LLM Programs i.e. MUCLET.

Latest News/ Updates: 

Mumbai University has declared semester examination results for various courses including M.Com – Part II and Sem II. The examinations were held in the month of April-May 2017 and the results were supposed to be announced in June/July. Due to the introduction of online assessment mode, the authorities faced a delay in declaration of results.
Students can check their results along with the scorecard from the official website. In addition to it, the university is also expected to release the result for Mumbai University IDOL (Distance and Open Learning) soon. Recently, Mumbai University has declared the results for following courses:

  • BCom (Accounting & Finance ) Semester IV, TYBCom semester IV, TYBCom semester VI,
  • BMS semester VI CBGS (OLD), BMS Semester VI CBGS,

Mumbai University Undergraduate Courses (UG) Admission 2017-BA, B.Sc, B.Com, B.S.W., BMS and B.Voc and B.Lib.Sc.

Mumbai University releases the application dates for UG programs considering the result date of Higher Secondary Certificate (H.S.C) exam. The admission is done on the basis of merit list, as per a government circular colleges cannot take admission through any entrance test for the courses mentioned below.

The admission process mentioned here include the courses First Year B.A, B.Sc, B.Com, B.M.M, B.S.W, B.A in French Study, BA in German Study, B.M.S, B.M.S-M.B.A, B.Com (Financial Market), B.Com (Accounting & Finance) B.Com (Banking & Insurance), B.Sc IT, B.Sc Computer Science, B.Sc (Hospitality Studies), B.Sc (Microbiology), B.Sc (Bio Chemistry), B.Sc (BioTechnology), B.Sc (Maritime), B.Sc (Nautical Sciences), B.Sc (Forensic Science), B.Sc (Home Science), B.Sc (Aviation), B.Voc and B. Library Sciences.

Admission in Engineering and Medical Courses are done by central entrance exams like JEE Main and NEET.

Mumbai University UG Admission Application Form:

The application form for all the affiliated colleges of the University of Mumbai need to be submitted at the centralized application platform  


  • Candidates can apply for multiple courses in multiple colleges through online applications
  • Please be careful while applying, once admission get confirmed in one College, you cannot then seek admission in another College for same Course.
  • Reservation Criteria is provided at the bottom of this article


For BA, B.Sc, B.Com

Almost for all the UG programs at Mumbai University eligibility remains same i.e. Passed in Higher Secondary School Certificate (Std. XII) examination conducted by the different Divisional Boards of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education with the relevant subjects.

For Integrated BA, B.Sc, B.Com

45% in Higher Secondary School Certification Exam and the other details remain same as above.

For Bachelor of Mass Media

As per government norm, no college can have any entrance test for admission in this course. Merit list for this courses gives weightage to the candidates based upon their stream in 12th.

Mumbai University UG Admissions 2017 - Important Dates, Online Application Form, Merit Lists

Mumbai University Common Law Entrance Test MUCLET 2017 for admissions to Integrated Five Year Management and Law Degree Programme. BBA-LLB (Hons.) Course

Mumbai University have 120 seats of BBA-LLB course running at University National Law School, Fort Campus and School of Law Thane Sub Campus. 85% of seats is filled by the students having domicile of Maharashtra.

Admission in BBA-LLB program is done through Mumbai University Common Law Entrance Test (MUCLET 2017), followed by an interview. Exam Centers for MUCLET are only available across Maharashtra.

MUCLET Application Form: 

The application form for MUCLET will be made available on / downloadable from University Website. The pdf file for the form will be updated once made available.

 Candidates are required to download the form and take a print out on legal size plain paper. Candidates are required to fill in the prescribed format all the necessary details.

MUCLET Eligibility:

Candidates with 45% marks in 10+2 or any exam equivalent are eligible for the exam, for SC and ST candidates the minimum marks required is 40%.

MUCLET Entrance Exam Fees for General Candidates is 2000 INR and for Reserved Category candidates is 1000 INR.

Interested candidates can go through the MH-CET Law Cut-off for the past years for admission to integrated law programs.

MUCLET Exam Pattern:

MUCLET is a pen paper based exam conducted in English Language only and consists question English Grammar and Vocabulary, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning and Aptitude and Basic Mathematics.

Total Number of Question: The exam will be of two hours and will consist 100 question.

Mumbai University M.Sc Admission:

Admission in M.Sc programs at Mumbai University is done by a merit list released on the basis of B.Sc Marks. The application for the M.Sc programs can be filled at the centralized application window for Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology and Biochemistry The Mumbai University has released two different set of criteria for Merit List preparation and college admission will be done in order of preference.

  1. For Mumbai University Student:
  1. The students who have been declared in First Class and above without grace marks with as a single major subject out of 1200 (Sem V & VI)
  2. The CGPA will be considered if the marks are equal
  3. The students who have been declared passed in First Class with Grace marks /Second Class with as a single major subject out of 1200 (sem V & VI)
  4. The students offering two major subjects, Chemistry as one of the subject at T.Y.B.Sc be admitted in order of merit by considering marks secured in Chemistry at T.Y. B.Sc only
  5. In case there is a tie in a), b), c) or d) aggregate marks without grace marks out of 1200
  6. In case there is a tie in a), b), c) or d) then marks in theory out of 800 without grace marks (Sem V & VI)

There will be one common merit list for all the students in each subject for the admissions to be made by the Post Graduate Section of the University of Mumbai. The final merit list will be displayed on the website of the university and on the Notice Board of the Post Graduate Studies Section, University of Mumbai, Fort, Mumbai 400 032. Merit List will also be mailed on the colleges provided.

  1. For Other University Students:

Merit List of other university students other than University of Mumbai will be released along with the Category 1 student for the seats left. Candidates belonging to other universities should submit self-attested Xerox copies of all three years B.Sc. Marksheets.

Mumbai Universty Phd Admission 2017

Candidates can take admission in Phd Courses by submitting online application form for Phd Eligibility Test of Mumbai University (PET), followed by an interview. It is advised for the students to check the eligibility criteria mentioned in the document

Admission for PHd is done in two sessions January-February and July-August Session. Candidates need to submit their application form online with a nominal application fees of 1000 INR for General category students and 500 INR for Reserved category.

Exemption from Phd Entrance Test:

Candidates fulfilling one of the following criteria shall be exempted from Ph.D. entrance test (PET).

  1. Qualified in GATE / SET / NET / (JRF) Examination / teacher fellowship holder of the apex bodies as CSIR / UGC / ICAR / ICMR / DBT only
  2. Completed an M. Phil. Degree from University of Mumbai as per the UGC guidelines from time to time.
  3. Completed an M. Phil. Degree from any other recognized Universities in India as per the UGC guidelines from time to time. The exempted candidates from Ph.D. entrance test shall submit their application within fifteen (15) days from the date of notification directly to the concerned Research Centre with all relevant supporting documents.

Structure of PhD Entrance Test:

The Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) will consist of one paper of 100 marks for the duration of three (3) hours in the relevant subject of various faculties.

Syllabus and Pattern of Question Paper

a) Syllabus: - It shall consist of the various topics included in the compulsory / core papers at Post Graduate Degree level in the respective subject of University of Mumbai.

b) Pattern of Question Paper: - The question paper will consist of three types of questions viz - Objective - forty (40) marks, Short answers - thirty (30) marks and long answers - thirty (30) marks.

c) Standard of Passing: - Candidates securing fifty (50) or more marks in entrance test will be declared as successful and eligible to apply for admission process.

Declaration of Result: - Candidates who score a minimum 50% and above marks in the entrance test (PET), shall be declared as successful by the University of Mumbai and will be eligible to apply for admission to the Ph. D. programme. The list of such candidates will be published on the University website and a copy of the results will be sent to the concerned research centers.

Validity period of result of Ph. D. entrance test- The result of the entrance test (PET) will be valid for three (03) years and candidates must apply within this period for admission to the Ph. D. programme.

Mumbai University Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) Admission 2017

Mumbai University started its distance education wing in 1971 and is pioneer in providing science education through correspondence. Admission to Mumbai University Institute of Distance & Open Learning (IDOL) is done through an online application system available at the official university website.

How to Apply for IDOL:

  • Candidates having graduate degree can directly apply at the portal with a scan of their passport size photograph, signature marksheet of qualifying exam.
  • The student from other college affiliated to University of Mumbai who is transferring his/her admission to IDOL is required to scan & upload original No Objection Certificate (NOC) of current academic year from the concerned college and submit along with Xerox copy.
  • All the Students from other university or board other than Maharashtra State board are required to obtain the eligibility certificate. which will be issued online after approval from Eligibility Unit, Room No. 108 (A), Institute of Distance and Open Learning, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Bhavan, Vidyanagari, Santacruz (E), Mumbai-400 098.
  • Fees can be paid online or through Challan
