BHU BA Hons FAQs
Ques. Does BHU allocate BA Hons seats through CUET-UG alone or is there a separate BHU entrance test?
Ans. BHU BA Hons admission is entirely through CUET-UG. There is no separate BHU entrance exam for BA programs. The university computes a normalized combined score from the candidate’s CUET-UG performance across the Language and Domain subject papers. This normalized score determines rank position in the CAP-UG merit list for each program. Candidates who did not appear in CUET-UG are ineligible for BHU BA Hons admission regardless of Class 12 marks.
Ques. Which BA Hons specializations at BHU are unique and not available at most other universities?
Ans. BHU’s most distinctive BA Hons programs are in Vedanta, Mimansa, Nyaya, Jyotish, Baudha Darshan, Dharma Shastra, Shukla Yajurveda, Samveda, and Sankhya Yoga, run by the Faculty of Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan. These have no parallel at any other central university. BHU also offers BA Hons in History of Art and Kathak and Bharatnatyam, combining academic study with performing arts training.
Ques. Does BHU offer a residential experience for BA Hons students, and how does hostel allocation work?
Ans. Yes, BHU is a fully residential university with one of the largest university campuses in Asia. Hostels are allocated to admitted students through a separate portal after admission confirmation. Hostel availability is limited, so early response to the hostel application notice is critical. Female students have dedicated women’s hostels within a secured perimeter. Hostel fees are charged separately from the academic fee and are modest given BHU’s central university subsidy structure.
Ques. Can a BA Hons student at BHU pursue a language minor alongside their main specialization?
Ans. BHU’s undergraduate curriculum is designed under a single major framework for most BA Hons programs. However, the Department of Foreign Languages offers open elective courses in Chinese, Japanese, French, and German that students across disciplines can enroll in subject to availability. Under the NEP-aligned credit framework being rolled out, cross-departmental credit mobility is expected to allow minor program enrollment in future batches. Current students should confirm available elective slots with the Faculty of Arts academic office.
Ques. What is the CUET-UG cutoff range for popular BA Hons programs at BHU?
Ans. BHU uses a normalized combined score rather than raw CUET marks for its merit list. In Round 1 of the 2026 CAP-UG allotment, popular programs like Economics, Political Science, and English had high competition. BA Hons in less competitive specializations like Pali, Nepali, or Persian typically close at lower normalized scores in later rounds. Candidates should check the program-specific Round 1 cutoff scores published on bhucuet.samarth.edu.in after each allotment round for exact data.
