BHU DME FAQs
Ques. I am a student of a college affiliated to a university other than BHU but located in Varanasi. Am I eligible for the DME programme?
Ans. Yes. The eligibility for the Diploma in Micro Finance and Entrepreneurship is open to students pursuing a graduate degree or graduates from any recognised university and its affiliated degree colleges situated in Varanasi. You do not need to be a BHU student specifically, as long as your college is located in Varanasi.
Ques. Is there any written entrance exam for the DME programme at BHU?
Ans. No, there is no written entrance exam. Admission is through Group Discussion and/or Interview conducted by the Institute of Management Studies, BHU. Candidates are shortlisted based on their application and then called for the GD/Interview process.
Ques. What is the scope of microfinance as a career in India?
Ans. India's microfinance sector is one of the largest in the world, with over 6 crore borrowers and a gross loan portfolio exceeding Rs. 3 lakh crore. Major MFIs like Bandhan Bank, Ujjivan Small Finance Bank, CreditAccess Grameen, and Spandana Sphoorty are major employers. NABARD, regional rural banks, and NGOs also offer significant career opportunities. With the government's push for financial inclusion and the Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile (JAM) trinity, the sector is expected to grow significantly in the coming years.
Ques. Can I pursue the DME alongside my regular graduation programme?
Ans. Yes. Since the DME is a part-time programme, it is designed to be pursued alongside a regular graduation programme. The classes are scheduled to accommodate working students and full-time students. This makes it an excellent add-on qualification for students who want to build management and entrepreneurship skills while completing their primary degree.
Ques. What is the difference between the DME and the PGDBA offered by IM-BHU?
Ans. The DME (Diploma in Micro Finance and Entrepreneurship) is a 1-year part-time programme with a fee of Rs. 15,000, open to graduates and students pursuing graduation from Varanasi-based colleges. The PGDBA (Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration) is also a 1-year part-time programme but requires graduation plus 3 years of work experience in a supervisory role, with a fee of Rs. 70,000 + Rs. 15,000 regular fee. The DME is more accessible and affordable, while the PGDBA is targeted at working professionals.
Ques. When does the admission process for the DME typically start, and where do I apply?
Ans. The admission process typically starts in February-March each year. Applications are submitted online at bhuonline.in. After applying online, shortlisted candidates are called for Group Discussion and/or Interview at IM-BHU. Keep checking bhuonline.in and the official BHU website (bhu.ac.in) for the exact dates and the Special Courses of Study bulletin for the 2026-27 session.
