US Embassy, F, M, and J Student Visa

New Delhi: The US Embassy in India has declared modifications to the student visa application procedure, set to be in effect from November 27, 2023. These alterations will be implemented uniformly across all embassies in various Indian cities.

Prospective students intending to apply for the F, M, and J student visa programs to study in the US should take note of these changes. The announcement regarding these adjustments was made by the US Embassy in India on social media.

The US Embassy announced that all F, M, and J student visa applicants must use their own passport information when establishing a profile and scheduling their visa appointment, which will be Effective from November 27, 2023.

This measure aims to curb fraud and misuse of the appointment system. Applicants using an incorrect passport number for profile creation or appointment booking will not be accommodated at the Visa Application Centers (VAC). Such appointments will be canceled, and the visa fee will be forfeited, as directed by the US Embassy in India.

Individuals seeking F or M visas are required to enroll in a school or program certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). For those applying for a J visa, sponsorship must come from an organization approved by the Department of State.

The US Embassy highlighted that individuals who have previously created a profile or scheduled an appointment with an incorrect passport number should either generate a new profile with the accurate passport details or access an existing profile containing the correct information to secure an appointment.

However, this process involves obtaining a new visa fee receipt if the earlier one was linked to the profile with inaccurate passport information.

In case of a lost or stolen old passport, the US Embassy specified that a photocopy or alternative evidence of the old passport number will be necessary for a US visa appointment at the Visa Application Center (VAC) for admission.

Simultaneously, the US Ambassador has confirmed the addition of more staff and the establishment of new consulates to reduce visa issuance waiting times from India. Ahmedabad will witness the setup of new consulates, and a recent addition was made in Hyderabad.

Earlier, the US Embassy had disclosed that its India team processed a higher volume of visa applications in 2023 compared to any previous year.
