University of Colorado, Denver Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

The requirements below apply to most graduate and undergraduate programmes at CU Denver, with the exception of Anschutz Medical Campus health-science schools. Each Anschutz programme sets its own standards; contact the school directly.

Postgraduate (MS, MBA, MPH) requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (equivalent to Indian 60% aggregate marks or 6.5 CGPA on 10-point scale) from a four-year programme
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 79 (0-120 legacy scale), IELTS Academic 6.5, PTE Academic 58, or Duolingo English Test 105
  • Credential verification through WES ICAP or equivalent evaluator for all Indian transcripts
  • GRE or GMAT required for some programmes (MBA typically GMAT 500+); MS programmes increasingly offer waivers based on academic record

Undergraduate (BS, BA) requirements:

  • Class 12 completion with minimum 60% aggregate marks (equivalent to 3.0 GPA on 4.0 scale)
  • English proficiency test minimum applies (TOEFL iBT and IELTS accepted; verify current threshold at the official admissions page)
  • Course-by-course credential evaluation for Class 10 and 12 transcripts

Key insight: A three-year Indian bachelor’s degree is sometimes accepted for MS admission at CU Denver, unlike many US universities that require four years. Confirm eligibility directly with the department before submitting the WES evaluation.

University of Colorado, Denver Acceptance Rate 2027

University of Colorado, Denver has a headline acceptance rate of 75%, which places it in the moderately selective band among US public research universities. The rate reflects institution-wide admissions across all undergraduate and graduate programmes.

Selectivity varies sharply by department. Health-science schools on the Anschutz Medical Campus, particularly the School of Medicine and Colorado School of Public Health, run substantially lower acceptance rates than the university average. Engineering and business master’s programmes track closer to the institution-wide figure.

Reality check: The 75% acceptance rate does not mean admission is guaranteed for Indian applicants. Meeting the minimum GPA and English-test thresholds is table stakes; competitive files also carry strong research, work experience, or a clear programme fit.

University of Colorado, Denver Campus, Facilities and Student Life

University of Colorado, Denver runs two distinct campuses: the downtown Denver campus for most undergraduate and graduate programmes, and the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora dedicated to health sciences.

  • Location and transport: Downtown Denver campus sits within walking distance of the Auraria light rail station, connecting to Denver International Airport and both intercity Amtrak lines
  • Housing: On-campus housing at Lynx Crossing runs USD 850-1,400 per month; international student housing is not guaranteed, so early applications matter
  • Notable facilities: Anschutz Medical Campus hosts one of the largest US academic medical centers, with more than 100 clinical and research buildings and shared teaching hospitals
  • Indian student community: Active Indian Students Association organises Diwali, Holi, and cultural events; roughly 400-500 Indian nationals across both campuses

What Indian students say: Students consistently rate the two-campus setup as a strength for internship access, since downtown Denver and Anschutz together host over 20 large employers within a short transit ride. The main friction points cited are Denver winter weather and the higher cost of downtown rent compared with Aurora.

University of Colorado, Denver Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

University of Colorado, Denver does not publish a single institution-wide placement rate; outcomes vary substantially by school, programme, and STEM designation. Career support is coordinated through the Lynx Central career services team and individual school career offices.

  • Employment sectors: Denver’s core employers span aerospace (Lockheed Martin, Ball Aerospace), technology (Google Denver, Palantir), healthcare (UC Health, HCA), telecommunications (Comcast, Charter), and financial services (Charles Schwab)
  • Median starting salary (MS Computer Science, market median): USD 85,000-105,000 per year (INR 81.44-100.60 lakh) based on national market medians for the field; institution-specific medians not disclosed
  • MBA post-graduation salary (market median): USD 85,000-95,000 per year (INR 81.44-91.02 lakh) based on market data; verify programme-specific figures at CU Denver Business School career page
  • STEM OPT and career pathway: Over 57 CU Denver programmes carry STEM designation, allowing eligible F-1 graduates to work in the US for up to 36 months post-graduation
  • Career support: Handshake job portal, on-campus recruiting events, and industry-specific advisers embedded within schools

Insider note: Denver’s aerospace and health-tech ecosystem gives CU Denver STEM graduates strong local hiring reach, but competition from CU Boulder and Colorado School of Mines is real. Networking through Denver Tech Meetups pays off for Indian MS students seeking their first US role.

University of Colorado, Denver vs Peer Universities

The peer table compares CU Denver against three same-state and cross-state US public universities that Indian applicants commonly consider alongside it.

UniversityLocationAcceptance RateAnnual PG Fee Estimate (INR)Differentiator
University of Colorado, DenverDenver, Colorado75%INR 23.21-37.71 lakh (Engineering to Business)Anschutz Medical Campus health-science focus and STEM-OPT reach
University of Colorado BoulderBoulder, ColoradoEstimated 80%Estimated INR 35-40 lakh (market estimate)Colorado System flagship with higher overall research profile
Colorado State UniversityFort Collins, ColoradoEstimated 85% (market estimate)Estimated INR 28-32 lakh (market estimate)Land-grant research strength in agriculture and engineering
Arizona State UniversityTempe, ArizonaEstimated 88% (market estimate)Estimated INR 30-36 lakh (market estimate)Larger scale with extensive STEM-OPT programme catalogue

[Source: Peer figures are market estimates; official acceptance rates and per-credit tuition require verification at each institution’s site]

Where CU Denver stands out for Indian applicants: the two-campus model connects graduates directly to Denver’s health-tech and aerospace employers, and per-credit tuition sits below CU Boulder’s rate for comparable engineering programmes. The trade-off is a lower overall QS position; applicants comparing purely on QS rank often favour CU Boulder or Arizona State.

University of Colorado, Denver suits Indian applicants targeting an INR 23-38 lakh annual investment for a two-year MS in a STEM-designated programme, and it delivers strongest value in health sciences, computing, and business analytics. The 75% acceptance rate, combined with 3.0 GPA and TOEFL 79 minimums, keeps admission accessible for applicants with a solid but non-elite academic record.

The Anschutz Medical Campus offers Indian graduates a direct pipeline into US healthcare research and clinical roles rarely matched at similarly-priced US publics. F-1 STEM OPT eligibility extends the post-graduation US work window to 36 months, and Denver’s employer density in aerospace and health tech supports on-shore hiring for graduates seeking to convert OPT into H-1B sponsorship.

CU Denver is not the right choice for applicants prioritising a top-100 QS rank or those seeking pure academic research prestige over vocational STEM outcomes. Candidates aiming at higher-ranked flagship US publics with similar cost structures should also weigh University of Colorado Boulder, which sits higher on QS World Rankings and offers stronger overall research signalling.

Ques. Are English-taught bachelor’s programmes available at University of Colorado, Denver?

Ans. Yes. All undergraduate programmes at CU Denver are delivered in English, since the university is a US institution. Indian applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, or Duolingo scores. Applicants who completed their entire secondary education in English medium may qualify for an English test waiver on request; documentation from the school confirming English medium of instruction is typically required for the waiver review.

Ques. What credential evaluation does CU Denver require for Indian transcripts?

Ans. CU Denver requires a course-by-course credential evaluation from World Education Services (WES) or another NACES-member evaluator for Indian academic transcripts. The evaluation converts Indian percentages and CGPA into US 4.0 GPA equivalents. WES ICAP is the most commonly accepted format. Applicants should initiate the evaluation at least 8-10 weeks before the target application deadline, since Indian university document processing can be slow.

Overview

Wonderful experience with in depth learning in our concentration. Exposure to different kind of people. Getting to know how the things are going outside our world. In simple it will be a global exposure as we will be seeing different kinds of people from all over the world. It will be some difficult in the initial days but the things will get better when the days are passing. You will learn a lot.

Overview

I got in-state tuition, which was the biggest factor in my choice. They have a really good program for nursing students, which is my ultimate goal as a student. It was also close to home, but still far enough away for me to have a new experience.

Fees

The structure of the fees is somewhat ridiculous. We are required to pay fees for certain things that are unnecessary such as a sports facility and bus passes, even if you don't use these amenities.

A three-year bachelor's degree can be relevant depending on the field and employer requirements. It may offer valuable skills and knowledge, especially in specialized areas, but some industries prefer or require a four-year degree.
