VITEEE Physics Electrostatics PYQ, free to download as a 20-page PDF. The bank carries 14 solved questions from the 2021 to 2026 papers and takes roughly half an hour to work through, so treat it as one short revision sitting.
Questions run newest year first, with the options exactly as printed. The answer key follows, then a worked solution for each one.
VITEEE Electrostatics Weightage
Electrostatics is Unit 2 of the seven in VITEEE Physics, which is 35 of the 125 questions in the paper. It is a small unit that turns up every single year, and capacitance carries most of it.
| Year | Questions in this bank |
|---|---|
| 2026 | 3 |
| 2025 | 3 |
| 2024 | 2 |
| 2023 | 1 |
| 2022 | 3 |
| 2021 | 2 |
Two or three questions a year is the pattern, which is eight to twelve marks under the 2026 scheme of plus four and minus one. Papers up to 2025 gave one mark with no penalty.
The three questions from 2026 ask for a value rather than a lettered option, because VIT does not release its papers and only the question and its answer survive.
Formulas Worth Memorising
- Coulomb's law in a medium: F = k q1 q2 over K r squared
- Point charge: E = kQ over r squared, V = kQ over r
- Gauss: flux = enclosed charge over epsilon nought
- Parallel plate: C = epsilon nought A over d
- Energy stored: U = half C V squared, which is also Q squared over 2C
- Field from a potential: E = minus dV by dx
How to Approach the Set
Two shortcuts do a lot of work here. Divide potential by field and you get the distance from a point charge directly, because V carries one factor of r that E does not. And only the difference of the two plate charges produces a field between the plates, never their sum.
Before touching any capacitor question, check whether the cell is still connected. Connected means the voltage is fixed and charge can flow. Disconnected means charge is fixed and the voltage moves instead. The dielectric questions here turn on that distinction.
Common Mistakes
- Changing the dielectric but forgetting that the separation changed too
- Adding the two plate charges when the field depends on their difference
- Assuming charge leaks away from a capacitor that has been disconnected
- Losing the sign of a charge recovered through Gauss's law
- Treating a conducting slab as though it behaved like a dielectric. A conductor removes its own thickness from the gap; a dielectric scales it
Two to Solve First
The 2024 unequal-plates question is short and almost everyone gets it wrong. One plate is given two microcoulombs, the other four. The potential difference follows the half-difference, which is one volt. Averaging or adding the charges both give options that are on the list.
Then the 2022 cube. A potential of four x squared gives a field that reverses across the origin, and because the outward normal reverses too, flux enters through both faces instead of cancelling. Gauss's law then returns a negative enclosed charge.

Using the Answer Key
Attempt all 14 before checking anything. Mark the key in one pass, right or wrong only, then go back. Each solution opens with a one-line quick solution, so you can read that much, stop, and retry before reading the full working.
VITEEE Physics Electrostatics PYQ FAQs
Ques. How many electrostatics questions come in VITEEE Physics?
Ans. Two or three most years. Physics is 35 of the 125 questions in VITEEE and electrostatics is the second of its seven units, appearing in every recent paper.
Ques. Which years does this PYQ bank cover?
Ans. 2021 to 2026, spread fairly evenly. The 2021 to 2025 questions are full multiple-choice items; the three from 2026 ask for a numerical answer.
Ques. Which electrostatics topics repeat most?
Ans. Capacitors, by a distance. Dielectrics, a conducting slab between the plates, and the energy stored all recur. Coulomb's law and the field of a point charge come next, and Gauss's law usually appears once.
Ques. Is electrostatics a scoring unit?
Ans. Yes, for its size. The questions are short and formula-driven rather than long derivations, so the unit can be revised in an evening and still return two or three marks. Spend that time on capacitance.
Ques. Are the answers official?
Ans. No. VIT publishes neither the papers nor a key, so every answer here was worked out from the question itself.
Ques. Can the PDF be downloaded free?
Ans. Yes. All 20 pages can be read on this page and downloaded at no cost.
