Ques. Should I do a BSc in Computer science at the University of Calgary or Carleton University?

    ● Top Answer By Hitaishi Bhatia on 12 Jan 21

Ans. U Calgary is a huge place offering great experience while Carleton has had new renovations and structures in recent years but is still the smaller of the two. Both are accredited universities so it's hard for you to go wrong with either. The University of Calgary has been ranked #246 by QS World Ranking 2021 whereas Carleton University ranked between #601-651, so in reputation, Calgary definetely has an edge. With respect to Computer Science programs and frelated fields, students from Waterloo, McGill, UToronto and Carleton take the cake. Outside Canada you're most likely to meet these graduatesin your work experience as compared to Calgary. It's most probable that alumni of UCalgary end up in the oil and gas sector and supporting IT in related areas as compared to purely technological companies. On the other hand, CS at Carleton is a word class leader in Object Oriented theory and attracts students and faculty from all over the world. Their co-op program offers many well-paid internships in a number of tech companies across Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and more. It has excellent facilities with a number of streams to go for. It also offers a great program in Computer Engineering which focuses on hardware architecture and design. Lastly, it is situated in a beautiful area of Montreal and is bilingual. Carleton has an advantage over Calgary, as it's placed in Ottawa, which is relatively cheaper in terms of cost of living and a bit less in terms of extreme weather conditions. The following table gives a brief comparison of both universities: Carleton and Calgary both universities have excellent facilities and possess students and faculties from diversified countries and cultures. Calgary provides its co-op intern CS students an opportunity to interact with various Program System and Database Administrators and even work with them for a better understanding of Working of various Tech Companies.  Calgary has an impressive graduate employment rate of over 91% which lands some of the students in top-paying jobs in Canada. I only applied to two universities and the University of Calgary is in the same city that I live in. I did not want to move to another city to study as it can get expensive with residence costs and other living expenses. I applied to University of Alberta and got accepted as well, but I liked Calgary better than Edmonton as I believe there are more things to do here than Edmonton. I also get to still be with my family while pursuing my studies and all of my friends are also still living in this city.

    Course Curriculum :

The program is divided in terms, with two terms for each year for a total of 8 terms across 4 years. You only start with nursing subjects in second year. For the first year (terms 1 and 2), you are required to do anatomy/physiology, philosophy, statistics, academic writing, a junior arts option (they recommend a course in psychology or sociology), and four junior options (which can be in any subject you want). In second year (terms 3 and 4), term 3 focuses on community health while term 4 focuses on family nursing. Apart from the 3 theory subjects each semester, you also have to do your clinicals/practicum wherein they place you with community organizations for term 3 and long-term care homes for term 4. I think that the community health subjects could have been put in first year instead, as they do not really need backgrounds on other subjects to be understood. Tons of students say that third year nursing in the university is the toughest year of the program, as they condense and teach so much information across the two semesters (terms 5 and 6). Third year is all about acute care and chronic health and students are places in hospitals for the first time in their nursing student life. If first year was not spent so much on studying so much options, they could have pushed back the curriculum a bit and then they would not be cramming so much information in third year. Fourth year comprises of studying your final focus in term 7. You will choose two senior nursing options of particular interest and study them. You will also pick a certain population you would like to practice with (such as pediatrics, older adult, oncology, etc.). In term 8, which is the last semester of nursing school, you do you preceptorship. There are no more subjects and you are placed in a certain healthcare facility (which you ranked in order of preference — for example 1. Emergency Med 2. Labour and Delivery 3. Oncology...). I believe you are required to finish around 378 hours of practicum with a senior preceptor and it is also in this semester where you meet with an advisor and they help you with mock interviews and applications to find a job as well as help with reviewing for the NCLEX (licensing examination for RN).

University of Calgary is a reupdated university for engineering . It is also less costly than other Canadian universities . Its ranked in the top 200 universities in QS rankings.

    Course Curriculum :

The curriculum is good. However I feel like the pressure is too much in 1st year for engg courses as the first year is a a common year . So if you are decided if you want to go to a particular field you will feel like you are wasting time studying all different kind of engg courses in the first year. For example, if you are decided you want to study software engineering you would not want to study chemistry and physics or statics in your first year.

I heard a lot about UCalgary, I got to knw that not only we can advance our disciplinary expertise but also experience the rewards of collaborating across fields to either solve important problems or create new artistic expressions. My GPA was 8.5, and I was required to submit an online form worth $125.

    Course Curriculum :

Our Fine Arts program engaged us in a deep exploration of visual art as practice-based creative research, drawing together the technical and interpretive skills required of a professional arts practice. I worked with a range of media or focus on a specific medium, and was given studio space and full access to the resources of the department.

I was in search of a university that'll provide me a broad knowledge, essential skills, a diverse culture and an ethical backbone as well. I also wanted to challenge myself to learn the best skills possible. Thus University of Calgary was the one university that fulfilled all the criteria, so, I decided to apply here through the online portal at the official website and pay an application fee of around $110.

    Course Curriculum :

Within the program, we're actively solving problems and building new programs in class and tutorial labs. Also, we're gaining experience with computer science research and are being trained to pursue opportunities to work in research laboratories, either as a volunteer or as part of research courses.

When I decided to study in Canada I did not have any specific preference for the college to study in. After searching for the top Canada universities, I applied here for my interest of course. I was selected at University of Calgary. The university had a very good culture and community. I applied here through the online portal at the official website and paid an application fee of $110.

    Course Curriculum :

My CS course helped me build skills, novel ideas for designing and implementing software and algorithms to solve computing problems. Also, it provides the bedrock for exciting careers at the forefront of innovation in private industry or entrepreneurship. As I was a full-time student, I also got to study addition courses like Artificial Intelligence, Databases, Computer Graphics, Scientific Computing, HCI, and Visualization.
