Campus and Residence

Campus

There are five campuses of the University of Calgary across the world - four in Calgary and one in Doha.

Main Campus

  • Located in the northwest quadrant of Calgary
  • Home to 11 of the 14 faculties.
  • Faculties: Sciences, Engineering, Biology, Social Sciences, Education, Environmental Design, Kinesiology, Nursing, Social work, Business, and Law.
  • Provides residential facilities to thousands of students and on-campus guests.

Foothills Campus

  • The second campus started in 1975 with health sciences building.
  • Heritage Medical Research Building added in 1987 and Health Research Innovation Centre opened in 2011.
  • Home to health learning, medicine and health research.
  • The Cumming School of Medicine and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine are headquartered here.
  • A place for advanced medical research.

Downtown Campus

  • Intellectual center and corporate hub, offering selective programs through Haskayne School of Business and The School of Public Policy.

Qatar campus

  • Opened in Doha, Qatar in 2007.
  • Offers Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Nursing.
  • Degrees accredited by Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing.
  • Houses 450 students from 39 different countries, with 41 highly qualified Canadian faculty members.
  • Students must submit proof of English Language Proficiency by presenting TOEFL and IELTS test scores.
  • Minimum score required for admission to Bachelor of Nursing program: TOEFL - 80 and IELTS - 6.0, Master of Nursing program TOEFL - 97 and IELTS - 7.0.

Residence

As the most part of undergraduate and graduate students reside on campus, the University of Calgary offers a range of residences on campus. Approximately 2,500 students and faculty members live on-campus.

First-Year Students

Students under 21 get a single or double occupancy room in the dormitory-style residence. They get guaranteed residence for the first and second year of studies.

Second-Year Students

Second-year students along with transfer and international students have hybrid living with 2-3 bedroom suite-style apartments. They have shared a kitchenette, bathroom, and a private bathroom.

Upper-Year, International, and Transfer students

Undergraduate students of the third year along with transfer and international students are provided with more independence in studio, 1, 2 or 3-bedroom units with full kitchen.

Graduate Students

Graduate students along with transfer and international students live in studio to two-bedroom apartments in Crowsnest Hall.

Communities in a residence where students can share a common interest.

Family Housing

It is a facility available to those living with their spouse/common-law partner, with/without children, and single parents. Unfortunately, there are no accessible suites available at Family Housing.

Apart from the residence, students have

Students whose first language is not English need to prove their proficiency in the English Language. They can do so by selecting any one of the given tests and pass the minimum score for the corresponding test.

How to Apply?

Check requirements for the course you are opting for on the official website of the University of Calgary.

  • Go through the list of courses and select the one of interest.
  • Check the minimum eligibility criteria for the course.
  • Apply for the desired program.
  • After the completion of the application process, pay a non-refundable application fee of CAD 145.
  • All the required documents, English Proficiency test scores must be submitted before the deadline.
  • After successful submission of the application form, it will be scrutinized.
  • UCalgary authorities will contact selected applicants for further process.

Study Permit/Visa

International applicants who want to study at the university for a period of more than 6 months or more, must have a valid study permit or study visa.

Work while you Study

A full-time student carrying a study permit can work regardless of the program of study. There are no such restrictions on the number of hours a student can work. But the time devoted to a job must not exceed 20 hours.

A full-time student with a study permit and has opted a program which runs more than 6 months are eligible for work-study.

Students not eligible for the program:

  1. Visiting and Exchange students
  2. Students under ESL program
  3. Admission in a program with no degree or certificate

  • There are only a few undergraduate programs that offer co-op work permit or internships.
  • Use MyCIC account to apply for co-op work permit.
