Syracuse University Admission 2027
Syracuse admits Indian students through two intakes: Fall (primary, August entry) and Spring (January entry). Deadlines vary by school; the iSchool runs three priority rounds, while most departmental master’s follow a single close date.
Syracuse University PG Admission Dates 2027
Postgraduate applicants should target the earliest priority round for the best chance of merit funding and I-20 processing time.
| Milestone | Date | Notes for Indian Applicants |
|---|---|---|
| Spring 2027 iSchool Priority 1 | 1 October 2026 | Best round for merit review at School of Information Studies |
| Spring 2027 MS deadline (most departments) | 1 November 2026 | Applies to Engineering, Arts and Sciences, Whitman |
| Fall 2027 PhD deadline | 15 December 2026 | Doctoral funding decisions made by mid-March 2027 |
| Fall 2027 iSchool Priority 1 | 1 January 2027 | Applied Data Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity |
| Fall 2027 MS final deadline | 1 May 2027 | Late applications reviewed on rolling basis; visa lead time tight |
| Credential verification (WES) | Start 8-10 weeks before deadline | Indian transcripts need WES ICAP evaluation for most departments |
| Programme start (Fall) | August 2027 | Orientation for international students runs one week earlier |
[Source: Syracuse ECS Graduate Application Requirements and iSchool Graduate Admissions]
Planning note: Apply to the iSchool Priority 1 round (1 January 2027) rather than waiting for later cutoffs. Merit scholarship budgets deplete after Priority 2, and Indian students in later rounds receive tuition offers rather than funded packages.

Syracuse University Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027
Indian applicants meet three core requirements: an accredited bachelor’s degree, an English-language test score, and a course-appropriate quantitative background.
PG Admission Requirements
- Academic: Four-year bachelor’s degree with a minimum 65% or CGPA 6.5/10 (recommended); three-year bachelor’s holders may need a one-year PG diploma for STEM master’s.
- English test: TOEFL iBT, IELTS Academic, or Duolingo English Test accepted; typical minimums are TOEFL 80, IELTS 6.5, or Duolingo 115; verify per-department cutoffs at IELTS or TOEFL score requirement pages.
- Credentials: WES ICAP evaluation of Indian transcripts required by most departments; official mark sheets and provisional degree certificate accepted for conditional offers.
- Tests: GRE optional for Spring 2027 and Fall 2027; MBA candidates may submit GMAT or GRE; institution code 2823.
UG Admission Requirements
- Academic: Class 12 completion with 80-85% (recommended) from CBSE, ICSE or state boards; specific schools like Newhouse and Architecture screen more selectively.
- English: TOEFL 80, IELTS 6.5, or Duolingo 115 (recommended); waivers available for candidates from English-medium schools with CBSE English marks above 80%.
Key insight: The application fee is $75 (INR 7,182) per programme and is non-refundable. Apply to two Syracuse schools if your target department is competitive, because the university admits by school, not university-wide.
Syracuse University Acceptance Rate 2027
Syracuse University maintains an undergraduate acceptance rate of 42% (estimated) for the 2026 admission cycle, with graduate acceptance varying widely by school. Newhouse, Whitman full-time MBA and PhD programmes admit at rates below 25%, while general engineering master’s programmes admit closer to 50-60%.
| Year | Undergraduate Acceptance Rate | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 42% (estimated) | Stable |
| 2025 | 46% (estimated) | Slightly higher |
| 2024 | 50% (estimated) | Higher |
Rates have tightened over three cycles as application volume crossed 42,000. Early Decision applicants see approximately 60% admission, versus 36% for Regular Decision.
Reality check: Indian applicants targeting Whitman full-time MBA or Newhouse master’s should treat these as reach programmes even with strong profiles. iSchool and ECS admit more broadly, so a well-matched Indian applicant with 65%+ and IELTS 6.5 stands a realistic chance.

Syracuse University Placements and Career Outcomes 2027
Syracuse Career Services reports strong outcomes across the Whitman MBA, iSchool and Newhouse cohorts, with STEM master’s graduates concentrated in New York City, Boston and West Coast tech hubs.
- Whitman full-time MBA median starting salary: $95,000 (INR 91.0 lakh, official disclosure).
- iSchool MS median starting salary: $75,000 (INR 71.8 lakh, market median).
- ECS MS median starting salary: $85,000 (INR 81.4 lakh, market median).
- Top recruiting sectors: technology, consulting, financial services, media and entertainment, and public administration.
- Career support: Career Services runs employer treks to NYC and Silicon Valley, plus dedicated OPT and CPT visa workshops each semester.
Insider note: Indian iSchool graduates recruit heavily into Deloitte, Accenture and Amazon through the school’s own employer network. Sponsorship for H-1B is standard from these large recruiters, though smaller firms may not sponsor.
Syracuse University vs Peer Universities
The peer set below covers US private and public universities that Indian STEM and Business master’s applicants commonly shortlist alongside Syracuse.
| University | QS World 2027 | Avg Annual PG Fee (USD) | Avg Annual PG Fee (INR lakh) | Differentiator |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Syracuse University | #731-740 | $62,580 to $75,096 | 59.9 to 71.9 lakh | Strong Public Admin, Communications; moderate STEM fees |
| Boston University | NA | NA | NA | Higher ranked, higher fees, urban Boston location |
| Northeastern University | NA | NA | NA | Strong co-op programme; Boston metro job market |
| SUNY Buffalo | NA | NA | NA | Lower tuition; strong CS and Engineering |
| Rochester Institute of Technology | NA | NA | NA | Applied technology focus; upstate NY location |
Syracuse stands out for combining moderate US private tuition with STEM-designated master’s, subject strength in Public Administration and Communication, and one of the largest campus footprints in the northeast. For Indian applicants weighing brand versus cost, Syracuse sits between top-50 US privates and public state schools.
Syracuse University suits Indian applicants seeking a STEM-designated master’s from a mid-tier US private with strong outcomes in technology, media, and public policy. The total two-year investment of INR 84-96 lakh against a median starting salary near INR 81 lakh gives a workable return, and 36-month OPT extension eligibility on STEM programmes is the single biggest Indian-specific advantage.
Syracuse is not the right pick if your priority is top-100 global ranking, a metro location, or full-tuition merit scholarships out of the box. Indian applicants with a strong CGPA and IELTS 7.5+ may instead target Boston University or Northeastern University for stronger brand recognition in the US technology market.
Syracuse University FAQs
Ques. What is the application fee at Syracuse University for Indian students?
Ans. The application fee is $75 (INR 7,182) per graduate programme at Syracuse University, and it is non-refundable. The fee applies to each department you apply to. Indian applicants targeting more than one Syracuse school should budget for multiple fees. Fee waivers are limited and typically restricted to McNair Scholars or specific outreach programmes; international students rarely qualify.
Ques. Does Syracuse University accept three-year Indian bachelor’s degrees?
Ans. Most Syracuse graduate departments require a four-year bachelor’s degree, so three-year Indian degree holders are usually asked to complete a one-year PG diploma or master’s before applying. WES ICAP evaluation determines final equivalency. Business and iSchool programmes may consider three-year degrees with strong academic performance, but STEM master’s typically enforce the four-year requirement. Verify per-department policy before applying.
Ques. Can Indian students work part-time at Syracuse University?
Ans. Yes, F-1 visa holders at Syracuse can work up to 20 hours per week on campus during semesters and 40 hours during breaks. Off-campus work requires CPT authorisation, typically available after one full academic year. Common on-campus roles include library assistant, dining services, and graduate teaching assistantships. Hourly wages range from $15 to $22, helping offset living costs but not tuition.
Ques. Is GRE required for Syracuse graduate programmes?
Ans. GRE is optional for Spring 2027 and Fall 2027 admission across most Syracuse graduate programmes, including ECS and iSchool master’s. Submission is recommended if your undergraduate GPA is below 3.0 (India equivalent 65%) or if you seek merit funding. MBA applicants at Whitman may submit GMAT or GRE; PhD applicants across most departments are still expected to submit GRE scores. Institution code is 2823.
Ques. Which Indian banks fund education loans for Syracuse University?
Ans. Syracuse University is on the approved list for HDFC Credila, Avanse, Auxilo, InCred, Prodigy Finance and MPOWER Financing. Public sector banks including SBI and Bank of Baroda also lend for Syracuse under their premier-university lists. Unsecured loans up to INR 60 lakh are typical; secured loans go higher. Interest rates start around 10.5% and depend on collateral and co-borrower profile.
Ques. What visa do Indian students need for Syracuse University?
Ans. Indian students need an F-1 student visa after receiving the Syracuse I-20 form. The visa requires proof of financial support covering one full year of tuition plus living costs, currently around $63,801 for graduate students. Book a US embassy interview 3-4 months before your programme start. Dependents apply on F-2 visas, but F-2 spouses cannot work or study full-time in the US.
Ques. How long does OPT last for STEM graduates at Syracuse?
Ans. STEM-designated master’s graduates from Syracuse qualify for 12 months of Optional Practical Training plus a 24-month STEM extension, totalling 36 months of US work authorisation after graduation. Programmes including MS Computer Science, MS Applied Data Science, MS Cybersecurity, and most engineering master’s carry STEM designation. Non-STEM master’s like Newhouse Communications receive the standard 12-month OPT without extension.
Ques. Is IELTS mandatory for Indian applicants at Syracuse?
Ans. IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo English Test is required for most Indian applicants at Syracuse University. Waivers are available if you completed one year of undergraduate study at an accredited US, UK, Canadian or Australian institution or earned an advanced degree from an accredited US institution. Some departments waive the requirement for candidates from English-medium Indian schools with strong CBSE English scores; confirm directly with your target department.

- University as a whole is pretty great.
- The campus is good as well.
- The CS core courses seemed to be a little off the track, but we had multiple good options from the electives.

- The Cybersecurity core courses could have been more cybersecurity focused but I think it is being improved.

- A lot of activities are there, clubs are present, and every weekend, there are events/ extracurricular activities.

- The college hosts a variety of events including fun and cultural events. They also celebrate Indian festivals so we can experience our traditional festivals away from home.
- They provide us with career guidance where they go through our resumes and help us improve those for us to get a better chance in our job search.
Dislikes
- The curriculum is not that vast. There are very limited courses to select from. I had decided to enroll in some courses back in India but during the time of enrollment, those course were not available.
- The process for applying for a CPT is very bad. Like there is a deadline after which even if you get any internship offer from any company, the college will not be filing your CPT.
- As this is not a state university, the tuition cost is very high as compared to the other universities.
Campus Life
- Syracuse University has a total of 2 campuses, Main Campus and South Campus. Main Campus is the one where most of the lectures are held and the South Campus is mostly for accommodations and sports.

- All the festivals are celebrated here, including international festivals such as Diwali and Eid.
- Syracuse University has a football stadium called JMA Dome, which hosts many football games that are popular among the local people here.

- My college has one main campus in Syracuse, NY, with great facilities like a library, sports areas, and a health center.
- Popular events include the International Festival, Spring Fest, and Career Fair. Sports events are held at the JWA Dome, and there are many clubs like the Data Science Society and Women in Tech, plus cultural celebrations like Diwali and Holi.
Fees
- The Fees is very high, it is 1850 per credit with around 500 additional charges per semester and health insurance is 3000 per year and my monthly expenses is around 800-900 dollars, which includes rend and groceries and other extra expenses
- Overall it would cost at least $ 65,000 for college fees and 800-900 monthly expenses which can be covered by my part-time money

- One thing I found challenging was weather. Winters can be very harsh with heavy snowfall & freezing temperatures.
- There are few mandatory courses which you need to take even though you're well aware of the content.
- The location of the university.
Campus Life
The college has more than 8 campuses. There are 2 libraries, one stadium & a fitness/health centre. The name of my campus is Hinds Hall (iSchool). There are many fests & so many activities. You can go through the activities here at the Experience Syracuse website.

- To a student who is willing to look for resources to grow in life, Syracuse University is an excellent college to choose.
- The infrastructure is great, and the college environment is designed to aid students in achieving their career goals.
- The university also has facilities like the Barnes Health Center that focus on student's mental and physical health.
Dislikes
- I dislike the climatic conditions in Syracuse. Especially, the harsh winters. Sometimes, the housing is way far from University which makes it difficult to travel.
- With the increase in intake, University is finding it hard to provide employment to all the students.
Overview
I chose this university because the university excels in providing a quality student experience. It also had professors with incredible backgrounds and experience. The infrastructure and maintenance helped me believe in the university's seriousness in delivering a healthy environment to students. On top of all that, the university provided me with a huge scholarship that aided my financial constraints.
Campus Life
SU allowed me to embrace my student life all over, once again. From weekend hiking to midnight events called Orange After Dark, from rock climbing to sustainability clubs, I got to fulfill many activities on my bucket list as a student. The university has a club for book readers, sustainability, coders, dancers and many more. Don't like any of these? You have a chance to create your own club! SU makes it all easy for creative students. The campus has a silent library and an active library. The entire campus has a high-speed wifi facility. It also has various sports grounds both indoor and outdoor. I am pretty sure SU has so much to uncover in a span of 2 years.

- I love the University and all the buildings and infrastructure. Syracuse University is really inclusive and everyone is super nice.
Dislikes
- The thing I dislike the most is the cost of the tuition fee. It's nearly 1900$ per credit now.
Overview
I got a teaching assistantship, which provided a huge scholarship along with a monthly stipend. This was a major factor that influenced my decision, and along with this iSchool from Syracuse has an excellent program for Data Science. It is very flexible and has amazing professors.
Campus Life
There are so many events and activities happening all the time. Students won't be able to attend all of them because they will be tired haha, There are super powerful computers and cloud resources which the students can utilize for performing their research and projects. The WIFI all across the campus is easy to connect and high speed. It also has access to Spectrum Watch so we can see live TV, movies and series available on that for FREE! We have amazing gym named Barnes Center for Fitness and it has everything we require. The health facilities and sports facilities are really good.

- Plenty of extracurriculars, Enough on-campus jobs, Supportive faculty and administration, Modern facilities
Dislikes
- Not the University's fault, but winters are harsh, too much year-on-year intake leading to cramped spaces.
Overview
I chose this university as one of the senior completed his master's from the same university and the university was reputable. Plus the buildings were old school like Hogwarts. Also, some scene from Star Wars was shot outside the stadium called Carrier Dome.
Campus Life
Syracuse University is notorious for its parties, but don't fall into its trap since it's mostly the undergrad students having fun. The facilities are modern, and you won't be disappointed.
Likes
- The number of easy on campus jobs available, flexible curriculum, sports and amenities, career guidance in terms of resume building job shortlisting, enhanced alumni networking, career fairs, medical support is provided at ease.
- The value that the course provides, the recognition of engineering management from whitman is very well recognized which further pursued me to get my masters from Syracuse
Dislikes
- Weather conditions get really harsh during winters with extreme snow and wind. Which sometimes adds a lot especially for people or students like me who come from a country like India where weather conditions are not so extreme but it's excuse the summers are really warm but the winters are super cold with a lot of snow.
Overview
Overall my experience was one of the best periods and I made many friends. The winters were really tough, summer were really fun but mostly quiet due to holidays but overall it is a remembering memory.
Campus Life
The campus is really large compared to a lot of universities in the US and they hold a lot of extra curricular events for grad and undergrad students which makes Syracuse stand out.
Overview
For the admission, I gave the GRE exam and TOEFL. I have written a Statement of Purpose and have taken letters of Recommendations from three of the professors who were my mentors and educational advisor during my undergraduate.
Campus Life
Campus life is amazing. All the facilities including the library and sports facilities and the gym. Everything is amazing. There are a lot of fellowmen. The infrastructure is too good and up to date. Syracuse SASA and Orange After the dark - Clubs.
