Three Myths Busted
  • Myth: Only BHM graduates can study MHM.
  • Fact: Some programmes, including WGSHA MHM, accept a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with the required marks; some MHMCT programmes are more restrictive.
  • Myth: NCHMCT JEE is the PG entrance exam for MHM.
  • Fact: The regular NCHMCT JEE is an undergraduate route; NCHMCT separately conducts M.Sc. JEE for Hospitality Administration at PG level.
  • Myth: MHM graduates only work in front-office or hotel operations.
  • Fact: Revenue management, sales, marketing, events, consulting, teaching, food service and hospitality entrepreneurship are also common pathways.

Ques. Can BA, B.Com, B.Sc or B.Tech graduates apply for MHM?

Ans. Yes, at institutions that allow graduates from any discipline. WGSHA's 2026 MHM eligibility accepts a bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50%, while some MHMCT programmes specifically require hotel management or catering technology qualifications.

Ques. Is a BHM degree compulsory for MHM?

Ans. No. It is not compulsory everywhere. Applicants should check individual eligibility because some MHM/M.Sc. hospitality programmes accept any graduate, while several MHMCT programmes prefer or require BHM/BHMCT or an equivalent hospitality qualification.

Ques. What marks are generally required in graduation for MHM?

Ans. 45%–50% aggregate is a common range. The University of Calicut specifies 45% for its stated MHM eligibility, while WGSHA requires 50%; other institutions may prescribe 50%–55% or programme-specific conditions.

Ques. Which entrance exams are important for MHM admission in 2026?

Ans. Important routes include MAH-M.HMCT-CET, CUET-PG, CU-CET and GECET, where applicable. The equivalent NCHM postgraduate hospitality route uses NCHM M.Sc. JEE.

Ques. Is NCHMCT JEE required for MHM admission?

Ans. The commonly known NCHMCT JEE is primarily the undergraduate hotel-management entrance route. For postgraduate NCHM institutes, the relevant examination is NCHM M.Sc. JEE for Hospitality Administration.

Ques. Is CUET-PG applicable to Hotel Management postgraduate courses?

Ans. Yes, at participating universities. Central University of Haryana's 2026 PG admission system uses CUET-PG for relevant postgraduate programmes, and the university offers MHMCT; candidates should always verify the current test-paper mapping for their chosen institution.

Ques. What MHM entrance score is required for admission?

Ans. There is no single MHM cutoff score for India. Cutoffs depend on the exam, college, category, number of seats and counselling round; students should rely on the institution's official merit/closing-rank list rather than using one universal target score.

Ques. What is the difference between MHM and MHMCT?

Ans. MHM focuses on hotel and hospitality management, including operations, revenue, marketing, HR and business functions. MHMCT—Master of Hotel Management and Catering Technology—usually gives additional emphasis to catering, food production and technical hospitality operations; eligibility may also be more specialised.
