    Master of Philosophy or M.Phil in Media Studies is a Postgraduate course which introduces students to the fundamentals of Media Studies like Print, Radio, New Media, Global Communication etc. It is 18 months course and is divided in 3 semesters.

    Media studies is a study that deals with the history, content and impacts of different media; specifically, the mass communications. Media studies might draw on traditions from both the sociologies and the humanities, however generally from its main core discipline of mass communication, communication, communication sciences, and communication studies. The basic eligibility for admission to the course is a 10+2+3 scheme or its equivalent for graduation and 2 years of post-graduation.

    The average tuition fee for M.Phil in Media Studies ranges from 50,000INR to 65,000 INR for one year.

    Once the course is over, a M.Phil qualified can seek employment in various public and private sector organizations. Some of the job designations which are ideal for a M.Phil graduate are Journalist, Media Researcher, Public Relations Officer, Writer etc. The initial salary in these positions varies from 20,000 INR to 25,000 INR per month.

    Eligibility Of the M.Phil. (Media Studies)

    Basic eligibility for the program is to clear at the Postgraduate level examination with an aggregate of 55% marks or equivalent grade in Masters in Journalism or Mass Communication, or Journalism & Mass Communication, or Communication, or Audio-Visual Communication, or Electronic Communication from any recognized University in India or abroad recognized by UGC / AIU are eligible to apply. Students with a Master’s degree in any allied discipline and considerable experience in Media are also eligible for the program. 

    How to Get Admission in M.Phil. (Media Studies)

    Admission to M.Phil Media Studies to a majority of colleges in India is based on entrance test. Most of the universities conduct an entrance test for admission for the course. And after clearing entrance, a face to face interview round will be done.

    Entrance Examination

    The online form and direct form for entrance examinations is available in the months of January (Christ University) and October (Tata Institute of Social Sciences) and the entrance is ideally conducted in the month of February and May The entrance test is of 2-3 hours duration and contains objective type questions from Print, Radio, Television, Films, Internet, New Media, Development Communication and Global Communication while in Tata Institute of  Social Sciences there is a test of Research Aptitude.

    Selection Process

    After clearing the entrance exam, students are called for personal interview by the concerned university. After interview, assessment of performance in Class X, XII, Undergraduate, Postgraduate level and the research proposal during the Personal Interview is done.
