Does Bihar Board Release an Official Toppers List?
Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) is one of the few major boards in India that continues to officially publish a named toppers merit list for both Class 10 (Matric) and Class 12 (Intermediate) examinations. Each entry in the list includes the student’s name, total marks, percentage, district, and school. BSEB releases this list simultaneously with the main result through an official press conference at which the BSEB Chairman publicly names the rank holders, followed by a district-wise toppers PDF for all 38 districts of Bihar on the official portal.
This practice distinguishes BSEB from CBSE, which discontinued its merit list in 2017 to reduce academic pressure. BSEB also rewards high-ranking students with cash prizes, laptops, Kindles, medals, and appreciation certificates. The prize structure from the 2025 cycle is as follows:
| Rank | Cash Prize (2025 Cycle) | Additional Rewards |
|---|---|---|
| Rank 1 | ₹2,00,000 | Laptop, Kindle, medal, appreciation certificate |
| Rank 2 | ₹1,50,000 | Kindle, medal, appreciation certificate |
| Rank 3 | ₹1,00,000 | Medal, appreciation certificate |
Note: The prize amounts above reflect the 2025 cycle announcement. BSEB revises the prize structure each year; the 2027 prize details will be confirmed when the result is declared.
