The important topics of class 6 science chapter 7 include the following:
- Types of Plants – Plants can be categorised into three types – Herbs, Shrubs and Trees.
| Herbs are small plants with green and tender stems. Plants whose branches develop near the base of stem are called shrubs. Taller Plants with hard and thick stems falls under the category of trees. |
- Parts of Plant – The different parts of a plant are named differently and each part has its own function.
| Stem – It is the green, upward growing part of the plant that gives rise to branches. It bears leaves, fruits, flowers etc. Root – Root are a network of fine-threads buried in the soil. Roots keeps plants anchored at one place and transport nutrients and water from soil to entire plant. Leaf – Leaves arises from leaf buds on the stem. They carry out important processes like photosynthesis. Flower – Flowers are beautiful, ornamental structures of a plant. Flowers contain reproductive organs of a plant. |
- Important Plant Processes – Plants carry out some important processes like Photosynthesis and Tanspiration.
| Photosynthesis is the process by which plants synthesize their own food using energy from the sunlight. Transpiration, on the other hand, is the process through which water is lost from surface of leaves. |
