What is Punjab NEET Counselling?

Punjab NEET Counselling is a state-level admission process for MBBS and BDS seats in Punjab’s government and private medical colleges. It is conducted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, which is the nodal authority for all medical admissions in Punjab. The process allocates seats based on NEET UG scores, Punjab domicile status, and category reservations.

BFUHS manages approximately 1,425 MBBS seats across 4 state government and 6–7 private medical colleges, along with around 1,260 BDS seats in 2 government and 12+ private dental colleges. For government colleges, BFUHS handles only the 85% state quota seats. The remaining 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats in government colleges are managed separately by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) at the national level. AIIMS Bathinda is also not part of BFUHS counselling — it is filled through MCC NEET counselling.

More than 20 lakh candidates appear for NEET UG each year across India. Of these, Punjab domicile candidates who clear NEET with the minimum qualifying percentile can apply for Punjab state quota seats. Competition for government MBBS seats is especially tough, with closing scores at GMC Patiala and GGSMCH Faridkot crossing 620 marks in recent cycles.

Academic and Age Requirements

  • You must have qualified NEET UG 2027 with the minimum qualifying percentile (see table below)
  • You must have passed Class 12 (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as subjects

Punjab NEET Counselling 2027: Registration Process

Punjab NEET Counselling 2027 registration will be fully online on the BFUHS official website. The process involves multiple steps including form filling, document upload, and fee payment. You should complete each step well before the deadline — the BFUHS portal often experiences heavy traffic near the closing date.

Step-by-Step Registration Guide

  • Step 1 – Visit the official website: Go to bfuhs.ac.in and click on the Punjab NEET UG Counselling 2027 registration link
  • Step 2 – Log in with NEET credentials: Enter your NEET UG 2027 Roll Number and Application Number to create your counselling login

  • Step 4 – Upload documents: Upload scanned copies of all required documents in the prescribed format and file size
  • Step 5 – Choose your seat preference option: Select Option A (government colleges only, security deposit ₹10,000) or Option B (government + private colleges, security deposit ₹1,00,000)
  • Step 6 – Pay registration fee: Pay the non-refundable registration fee online via Net Banking, Debit Card, or Credit Card
  • Step 7 – Pay security deposit: Pay the refundable security deposit based on the option you selected in Step 5
  • Step 8 – Download receipt: Save and print your registration confirmation slip for future reference

The registration fee is strictly non-refundable. If you do not attend counselling or withdraw, your registration fee will not be returned. The security deposit is refundable after you complete admission or withdraw within the official deadline.

Which Security Deposit Option Should You Choose?

This is an important decision. Here is how to decide before registering:

  • Option A – Government Colleges Only (₹10,000 deposit): You will only be considered for government medical and dental college seats. Choose this if your NEET score is 590 or above and you are confident of getting a government seat.
  • Option B – Government + Private Colleges (₹1,00,000 deposit): You will be considered for both government and private college seats. This is the better choice if your score is between 400 and 580, where private college seats are more realistic. The extra deposit amount is fully refundable.

You need to upload scanned documents during online registration and bring all originals for physical verification at BFUHS, Faridkot after seat allotment. Keep every document ready before the registration window opens to avoid last-minute delays.

Reservation Policy in Punjab NEET Counselling

Punjab follows a specific reservation policy for state quota medical and dental admissions. The vertical reservations apply to government college seats and government quota seats in private colleges. EWS reservation is only for government medical and dental colleges — private colleges do not follow EWS reservation.

Category Reservation % Applicable To
General / Unreserved 50% Government + Private (govt quota)
Scheduled Caste (SC) 25% Government + Private (govt quota)
Backward Class (BC) 10% Government + Private (govt quota)
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) 10% Government Colleges only
Persons with Disabilities (PwD) 5% (horizontal) Applied within each vertical category
Defence / Ex-Servicemen 3% (horizontal) Applied within each vertical category

Horizontal reservations for PwD and Defence are applied within each vertical category. For example, 5% of General category seats go to PwD General candidates, and 5% of SC seats go to PwD SC candidates. These are not added on top of the vertical total.

Minority institution seats have separate rules — SGRD Amritsar reserves 50% of its seats for Sikh minority candidates, and CMC Ludhiana reserves seats for Christian minority candidates, as governed by their institutional policies.

To claim SC, BC, or EWS benefits for Punjab state quota, your certificate must be issued by a competent authority in Punjab. Certificates from other states are not valid for Punjab state quota reservations.

Choice Filling for Punjab NEET Counselling 2027

Choice filling is the most critical step in Punjab NEET Counselling 2027. You get a window of 3–5 days to add and arrange your college and course preferences. Your seat is allotted based on your NEET merit rank within your category and the order of preferences you lock during this window. A wrong order can cost you a better seat even if it was available for your rank.

How Choice Filling Works

  • Log in to the BFUHS portal during the choice filling window using your registration credentials
  • Browse the available seat matrix and add all college-course combinations you are willing to join
  • Arrange your added choices in order of preference — put your most desired college at the top and your least preferred at the bottom
  • You can edit and rearrange choices any number of times before the deadline
  • Lock your choices before the deadline. Choices that are not manually locked are auto-locked at the deadline, but you may not have the final order you intended

Choice Filling Strategy Tips

  • Add more choices, not fewer: A college missing from your list means you cannot get it even if seats are vacant there. Add every college you would genuinely consider attending.
  • Check previous year closing scores first: Use the 2025 cutoff data in the Cutoff section to understand which colleges are realistic for your NEET score before filling choices.
  • Aspirational choices at top, safe choices below: The system picks the best available option from your list based on merit. Aspirational choices are considered first — there is no penalty for adding them at the top.
  • If you paid Option B deposit, include private college choices: Candidates who paid the ₹1,00,000 deposit should add both government and private college options to make the most of their registration.
  • Do not leave choice filling to the last day: Portal traffic is heaviest on the final day. Technical issues can prevent timely submission. Fill and lock your choices by Day 2 or 3 of the window.

Seat Allotment Process

After choice filling closes, BFUHS runs a merit-based allocation and publishes the provisional seat allotment online. Your allotment depends on your NEET merit rank, category, and the availability of seats matching your preference order. Here is what to do after you receive your allotment.

Post-Allotment Steps

  • Check allotment result: Log in to bfuhs.ac.in with your credentials. BFUHS also sends an SMS to your registered mobile number when results are out.
  • Accept the seat online: If you want the allotted seat, accept it on the portal within the given deadline.
  • Report to the college: Visit the allotted college within the reporting window with all original documents. The college verifies documents and confirms your admission.
  • Pay college fees: Pay the first-year tuition and hostel fee at the college as per its schedule.
  • Upgrade in Round 2: If you want a better seat, surrender your current allotment within the official window and register for Round 2. Your security deposit carries forward.

Candidates who do not report to the allotted college within the deadline forfeit their seat and their security deposit. Follow the reporting timeline strictly.

Counselling Round Structure

Punjab NEET Counselling 2027 will have 4 rounds:

  • Round 1: The main round — most government MBBS seats and top private college government quota seats fill here
  • Round 2: Covers seats left vacant after Round 1, plus seats surrendered by Round 1 allottees who upgraded their preference
  • Mop-Up Round (Round 3): For seats still vacant after Round 2. Candidates without a confirmed seat from Round 1 or 2 can register fresh for this round
  • Stray Vacancy Round: Held only if seats remain after the Mop-Up Round. Candidates attend a physical counselling session at BFUHS, Faridkot

How to Prepare for Punjab NEET Counselling 2027

Getting a good NEET UG score is only the first step. You also need to prepare for the counselling process itself to get the best possible seat. Start these preparations right after your NEET UG exam — do not wait for the results.

  • Arrange your Punjab domicile certificate early: The domicile certificate is the most important document for state quota eligibility. Getting it from the SDM or Tehsildar office can take 2–4 weeks. Start the process right after NEET UG, not after results are out.
  • Get caste and EWS certificates updated: SC, BC, and EWS certificates must be current and issued by Punjab authorities. If your certificate is close to expiry or was issued by another state, get a fresh one from Punjab before the registration window opens.
  • Study previous year cutoff data: The 2025 closing scores for government colleges (535–638+ for General) and private college government quota seats give you a clear benchmark. Set realistic targets based on your NEET score.
  • Research colleges before choice filling: Visit the official websites of GMC Amritsar, GMC Patiala, DMC Ludhiana, CMC Ludhiana, and other colleges. Look at hospital bed strength, faculty quality, hostel facilities, and location. A seat in a college you are not comfortable with affects the next 5.5 years of your life.
  • Decide your security deposit option early: If your score is between 400 and 580, pay the higher ₹1,00,000 deposit to keep both government and private options open. The extra ₹90,000 is fully refundable and gives you access to many more seats.
  • Bookmark and check bfuhs.ac.in daily during counselling: BFUHS publishes all dates, results, and deadlines only on its official website. Missing a deadline — even by a few hours — can mean losing a confirmed seat.
  • Plan your travel to Faridkot in advance: Physical document verification is at BFUHS campus in Faridkot. Plan your travel and accommodation before allotment results, especially if you are from Amritsar, Ludhiana, or other distant cities.

Ques. Where is physical document verification for Punjab NEET Counselling held?

Ans. Physical document verification for Punjab NEET Counselling is held at BFUHS campus in Faridkot. You must carry all original documents along with 4–5 sets of self-attested photocopies. NRI quota candidates also need to bring a notarised sponsorship certificate and passport copies of themselves and their sponsor.

Ques. What happens if I do not report to the allotted college within the deadline?

Ans. If you do not report to your allotted college within the deadline, you forfeit your seat and your security deposit. BFUHS does not refund the security deposit in this situation. The vacated seat goes back into the pool for the next counselling round. Always plan travel and accommodation before the reporting date to avoid this.
