New Delhi: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has announced that it will set aside a specific amount of funding for sports related activities in the university campus.
According to the BHU statement, the distinct funding is intended to promote student’s involvement in athletic events at BHU. The university has taken this decision after realizing the idea of ‘Khelo BHU’ initiative.
The announcement adds that the decision was made in accordance with the Khelo India project of the Government of India (GoI), which aims to "revive the country's grassroots sports culture by establishing a powerful framework for all sports."
In accordance with the official declaration, BHU will allot 25% additional funding for sports based on the number of hostel residents.
Vice-Chancellor of BHU Sudhi Kumar Jain commented on this decision, saying that the university is totally committed to ensure the most active student life in the dormitories, and we are taking significant initiatives in that direction.
A step in that approach is raising hostel budgets, especially for sports. The announcement states that various colleges and faculties have created sporting associations based on his recommendation, Jain said.
