Gujarat: Universities to end new Academic Session by July 2021; Details here

October 13, 2020: Gujarat State Education Department released the new academic calendar for universities and affiliated colleges on October 12, 2020. As per the new academic calendar, the first semester will begin via online means in colleges. 

For the next session, Gujarat colleges will have the chance to choose between online classes or offline classes, depending on the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown restrictions. 

The next academic session will be completed by the end of July 2021, reads the academic calendar. Students will get a Diwali holiday of 12 days from November 6 to November 18.

Examination for the next academic session will be conducted through computer-based online more or pen and paper-based offline more or assignment based depending on the COVID-19 situation in the states. 

Gujarat State Government has issued a set of guidelines and precautions to be followed by the colleges and educational institutes for the commencing classes and exams. The guidelines are made by keeping in mind the COVID-19 pandemic. 

UGC Released Directs Revised Academic Calendar for Universities

UGC has released the revised academic calendar according to which the classes for first-year students will begin from November 2020. The admission process for new admissions will end on November 30, 2020. 

Earlier, the UGC asked the colleges to complete their final year examinations till the end of September. Due to the increasing cases of coronavirus in the states, the exams were postponed to a later date.

According to Union Education Minister Tweet," In view of COVID-19 Pandemic, the Commission has accepted the Report of the Committee and approved the UGC Guidelines on Academic Calendar for the first year of UG and PG students of the university for session 2020-2021".

As per UGC's revised guidelines, universities and affiliated colleges can begin their academic session from November 18, 2020, in case of a delay in result declaration. The teaching and learning process can be continued in online and offline mode by the university.

Gujrat: Colleges to Begin Classes from October 15, 2020

According to sources, Universities and Affiliated Colleges will begin the conduction of classes on a pilot basis from October 15, 2020, onwards.

The classes will be conducted in two different batches with 15-20 student strengths. Colleges and Universities are advised not to conduct pen and paper examinations until further guidelines are issued by the authority. Internal assessments are mandatory for all colleges. 

The weightage of the university-level examination will be 70% while internal assessments will hold 30% of weightage. The semester system will also continue in the academic session. 

Colleges are permitted to conduct the weekly tests, evaluate students’ performance based on group discussion, and provide project work to students.
