IISc Bangalore has launched a 4-year BTech in Aerospace Engineering from the 2026-27 session. Admissions will be held only through JoSAA counselling based on JEE Advanced 2026 ranks. No separate IISc application is required.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, has launched a new four-year Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programme in Aerospace Engineering from the 2026-27 academic session. The announcement was made on the official BTech admissions portal. Admissions will be conducted exclusively through JoSAA 2026 counselling.
The BTech in Aerospace Engineering is one of three new BTech programmes introduced by IISc Bangalore this year. The other new disciplines are Mechanics and Computing and Materials Science and Engineering. The existing BTech in Mathematics and Computing, introduced in 2022-23, will continue alongside the new branches.
Programme Highlights
The BTech in Aerospace Engineering is a four-year programme spread across eight semesters with a total of 128 credits. The curriculum includes aerodynamics, propulsion, structures and materials, flight and space mechanics, and guidance and control systems.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?
Candidates must have a valid JEE Advanced 2026 score to be considered for admission. They must also satisfy the Class 12 eligibility criteria specified in the JoSAA 2026 Business Rules.
- General category candidates must secure at least 75% aggregate marks in Class 12.
- SC, ST, and PwD candidates require 65% aggregate marks.
- Foreign nationals may register directly for JEE Advanced 2026 without appearing for JEE Main.

Campus and Hostel Facilities
All BTech students will study on the 400-acre IISc campus in Bengaluru. The institute provides on-campus hostel accommodation throughout the duration of the programme. The medium of instruction for all BTech courses is English.
IISc has historically been a postgraduate and research-only institute. The Mathematics and Computing BTech in 2022-23 was its first undergraduate engineering programme. Aerospace Engineering joins that short list and gives JEE Advanced toppers a new IIT-alternative for aerospace study.
