Most of the IITs are seeing a substantial number of job offers on Day 1 of the placement drive. Even as hiring this year came to a halt due to the pandemic, IITs are seeing a considerable amount of job offers.
At IIT Bombay, MNCs like Optiver has picked up several students for diverse roles in foreign countries. Optiver has hired 7 students in the first round and is all set to schedule more interviews in its second slot.
A student in the institute said that the job offers were very encouraging given the situation because of the pandemic. Another MNC, Cohesity had shortlisted a student for a US profile during the second slot. However, the final offer is not confirmed as of yet.
Even domestic recruiters have chimed in and recruited a number of students. Qualcomm picked 11 students from IIT Bombay and 8 from IIT Madras. The highest compensation package offered by the telecom major was INR 46.4 lakh.
This was followed by INR 39.7 lakh from WorldQUant, INR 35.3 lakh from Uber, and INR 37.2 lakh by Morgan Stanley. More than 18 companies took part in the first session. Microsoft, Google, Qualcomm, and Apple made the highest offers. In addition, a total of 153 students received pre-placement offers.
On the other side, IIT Kanpur closed day one with 226 offers. Quantbox offered a compensation package of INR 80 lakh to one student while Graviton Trading picked 3 students for INR 82 lakh.
Other offers of more than INR 60 lakhs for domestic profile were made by Apple and Cohesity. Google and Microsoft too offered lucrative packages to many students in the institute.
IIT Madras also received as many as 123 offers from 22 companies on day 1 of the placement drive. This was higher than any of its preceding years. At IIT Madras, Microsoft came out as the top recruiter with 19 offers.
