November 13, 2020: Madurai Bench of Madras High Court has requested the Tamil Nadu Government to reopen schools after December 2020. On November 12, 2020, the State Government has revoked the decision of reopening schools from November 16.
In accordance with the earlier decision of the state government of Tamil Nadu, schools in states are scheduled to reopen from November 16, 2020. However, keeping in mind the concerns of parents, the Madurai Bench suggested the government not to open schools just yet.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed by Ramprasad from Uthamapalayam in Theni district, in order to oppose the state government decision of reopening schools, colleges, and hotels.
As per the petition filed, concerns have been shown for the increasing cases of coronavirus pandemic in the states.
In the petition, Ramprasad added that cases of coronavirus might increase in the states as students from other districts will have to travel for attending their classes.

He further stated, "There are chances that the virus might even spread among the general population. Even to date, many schools and colleges are being used for providing treatment for those affected by COVID-19".
Keeping in mind the concerns of the State Government stated that as per the public consultation shared in various schools of Tamil Nadu on November 12, 2020, most parents and schools have requested the government not to reopen schools and educational institutes in the state.
The Madurai Bench added that in times of coronavirus pandemic, reopening of schools can be paused till December 2020, until the situation turns conducive.
The Court also advised Tamil Nadu Government to reconsider the school reopening dates while keeping in mind the concerns of students, and parents.
