Odisha: Common PG Entrance Test Likely to Commence from 1st week of August

The higher education department of Odisha has decided to conduct a Common PG Entrance test for admissions into PG courses in-state public universities and autonomous colleges.

As per sources, the higher education department is likely to start the application process for the entrance exam within a week.

The department is conducting the test for the first time in the state. Students appearing for the test will be able to get admission into various colleges and universities of the state.

Earlier, a meeting was held by the education minister, Arun Kumar Sahoo in which he had discussed with vice-chancellors of the state about the conduct of the test.

Following the meeting, another discussion was held recently to finalize the process before the publication of the advertisement inviting applications for the entrance test.

Students who are in the final semester/year of their graduation can apply for the test, there is no need for the result of the final semester examination to apply for the entrance exam.

However, the results of the final year examination will be required while preparing the merit list or rank for admission into the PG courses.

As per an official of the higher education department, a seven-day window period will be given to students before the publication of merit list for filling up of results of final semester/year examinations.

The merit list for the exam will be prepared by taking 30 points of career marking and 70 points of the entrance test marks

The date of the entrance test is yet to be decided. The conduct of the test depends on the verdict of the Supreme Court hearing pleas against the University Grants Commission (UGC) decision on conducting the final year university examinations by September 30.
