New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the Academic Block, Computer Centre, and Faculty of Technology on the university's North Campus on June 30, 2023.

Speaking to the crowd during the Valedictory Ceremony of the DU's Centenary Celebrations Narendra Modi claims that the contributions made by those who have graduated from the university offer a glimpse into life at Delhi University. The prime minister said that a country's colleges and educational institutions provide a window into its accomplishments.

The Prime Minister went on to say that over DU's 100-year history, numerous historic sites have linked the lives of numerous students, faculty, and other people. He said that Delhi University was more than simply a school; it was a movement that had given every second of the day meaning.

The Delhi University was established on May 1, 1922. The university has made important contributions to the development of the nation with over 6 lakh students, 86 departments, 90 colleges, and substantial expansion during the last century.

"If DU has maintained its values throughout these 100 years, then it has also maintained its emotions," the prime minister added. The prime minister emphasised the value of education by pointing out that India's economy peaked when it had thriving universities like Nalanda and Takshila.

He emphasised the significant contribution of India to the world GDP at the time by saying, "India's rich educational system is the carrier of India's prosperity." Continuous attacks during the time of slavery undermined these institutions, obstructing India's intellectual flow and putting a stop to the country's prosperity, he continued.

He claimed that by producing a potent generation of talented young people after Independence, universities played a significant part in giving concrete form to the post-independence India's emotional surge. He claimed that Delhi University also contributed significantly to that.

According to him, our life, ideals, and future vision are all shaped by our understanding of the past. The Prime Minister said, "When a person or organisation is resolute in serving the country, then its accomplishments are equated with those of the country".

The prime minister emphasised that education is a means of learning as well as a process of teaching. He made the observation that after some time, the emphasis is now on what the pupil wants to learn. He discussed the new National Education Policy's subject-choice flexibility.

The Prime Minister addressed the National Institutional Ranking Framework, which is inspiring the institutions, when discussing the enhancement of quality and injection of competitiveness among the institutions. He also emphasised the attempt to link institutional autonomy and educational excellence.

According to the prime minister, recognition of Indian institutions is rising as a result of the country's cutting-edge educational programmes and decisions. He stated that although there were just 12 Indian universities listed in the QS world ranking in 2014, there are now 45.

He attributed the driving force behind this transition to India's youthful population. The prime minister praised today's young for going beyond the idea that education is only about jobs and degrees. He said that they wanted to forge their own path and provided evidence for this claim in the form of more than 100,000 businesses, a 40% increase in patent applications from 2014 to 2015, and a rise in the Global Innovation Index.
