West Bengal College Admission 2023: Which state Colleges Will Still Hold Admissions on the Previous Regulations? Check Details Here

New Delhi: The admissions procedure will now be centrally controlled by the West Bengal state colleges. The list comprises colleges affiliated with the universities of Burdwan, Kalyani, Vidyasagar, North Bengal, and Calcutta.

The West Bengal state government has said that the admissions process will not be handled centrally (i.e. through the single portal) by all of the colleges. Admissions will be processed in the same manner as they were in the state's several colleges previously. Several top tier colleges are also included in the list.

Which College Won't Manage the Central Admissions Procedure?

Recently, the state higher education department released a gazette notice on the central admissions process for colleges stating that the Self-Governing Colleges, Minority Educational Institutions/Colleges, Training Colleges, Colleges of Law, Vocational Course (Fine Arts, Dance, Music) Colleges or Universities; Colleges of Engineering, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Medical Courses and Self-Financing or Private Colleges will not have Central Admissions Process. 

In other words, graduate admission will not be handled centrally by colleges affiliated with the Ramakrishna Mission, St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Scottish Church College, Loreto College, Sri Shikshayatana College, Bhavanipur Education Society, or St. Paul's Christian Women's College. The admissions process will proceed in those colleges in the same manner as before. 

As a result, students can be admitted to that college in the same old way.

Which University —Presidency or Jadavpur—will Walk in that Direction?

The Presidency University will once again administer its own admission test for graduate admissions. No central gateway will be used for the admissions process. 

Presidency University's graduate level admissions test will be held between May 20 and 21, 2023, whereas postgraduate admission tests will be held on May 9, 2023. 

According to the latest reports, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Board has already begun making preparations to conduct the admission test.

However, Jadavpur University hasn't formally stated which path it would take. The latest reports claimed that Jadavpur University's science department has once again pushed for undergraduate applicants to take the admission test. A meeting was held regarding the same.

According to Juta, the teachers' union at Jadavpur University, the state government has to establish clear standards for how the admissions procedure would be carried out at institutions like Jadavpur. 

Despite the statements made by state officials from the higher education department, everything in the gazette notification is understandable. Thus, no additional notification is required.
