Remarks

You can have a lot of fun in this college but be wise with the choices you make to give time to studies or extra-curricular, also choose your friend circle wisely. Totally depends on your individual choices how you want to shape your life. you will find a lot of personalities here. just be yourself and you'll be fine.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

For civil, I think some part is outdated and we need to focus more on upcoming softwares. Right now, it's mostly bookish. We have Labs, Tutorials and Lectures. Exam Structure: exam pattern varies from teacher to teacher but mostly it - Lab+ Quizzes+ Minor exams + Major exams contribute towards your grade. Exams, mostly come from previous year examinations, depending on hat teaching faculty you get but some few professors set really hard to crack exam paper. We have a 10 point relative grading (CGPA) system. Weighted average is taken for calculating CGPA. Because of relative grading, if everyone gets a bad score you'll end up being average/ above average. So that's a plus point.

Placement Experience

4

Okay for placements we get many options - core+ non-core. Core means you get in the core engineering branch that you are in and non-core profiles are data analysis, finance (JP Morgan), digital marketing.etc. so yes you have a lot of opportunities for placements. Also, for coding profiles, A LOT of reputed companies and startups come. Some coding profiles are also open for non-circuital. About internships: we have one whole semester dedicated to compulsory 4-6months of internship. you get grades for it. No exams in that semester. coding profiles: many opportunities. Stipend: varies from 1lac-25k civil core: not much till now but some professors can help you get a core internship because they have a lot of links so they keep updating the students. stipend max 10-15k. non-core: mostly startups come, JP Morgan (dream company), BMW(first time this year) Competition is very much because mostly non-core companies are open for all branches to apply. Also, in my current internship session, many non-core companies opened applications for all branches except civil which is very weird. stipend: min 10k max 50k till now.

College Events

4.5

1. PECFEST - annual 3-day fest. Fun to attend and work for. Cultural and Technical both activities are there. Committees are made - creative, infra, marketing, public relations, alumni, etc. you can be a part of whatever you like. 2. Clubs/ Societies- there are a lot of clubs like Art and Photography club, Drams, Music club, Glitterati( modeling), PDC, SCC- student council cell, EIC- entrepreneurship and innovation cell. WEC- women empowerment cell, NSS and so on. societies of every branch- civil- ASCE, CSE-CSS, ECE+Electrical- IEEE, mechanical- ASME, etc. all of them celebrate some day or the other. So basically there's something happening mostly all of the time in the college. It's up to you how actively you want to participate. To be or not to be. 3. Then there are general events celebrated like Independence day, Republic day, etc. the students are free to join in and watch Drams or music club performances. The official order for these kinds of celebrations is circulated.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Tuition fee for my batch (2017-21) is 55250 per semester. it keeps on increasing by 10k for upcoming batches. For hostel it is around 60-65k. It seems expensive if you have to live as 4 roommates( happens only in girls hostel). but college life can be fun. Fee structure I will say is somewhat expensive.

Fees and Financial Aid

1. SC/ST for all - full tuition fee waiver. 2. Women category- total 20 scholarships on the basis of JEE mains rank. if you have top 2-3 rank among girls in your branch you get full tuition fee waiver for all 4 years if you cgpa remains 6 above. 3. Merit based- top ranker boy + girl- full tuition fee waiver each. 4. EWS- economically weaker section. depends on the no. of applications. most eligible students are given scholarships. 5. PWD and other scholarships - notice for applications is circulated different schemes are there. for example central scholarship scheme. information about all scholarships available at pec.ac.in

Campus Life

4

When it comes to extracurricular activities PEC is very enthusiastic about it. There is also a gym and a swimming pool a lawn tennis court, badminton, football, etc. a lot of sports activities take place. There are a lot of clubs like Art and Photography club, Drams, Music club, Glitterati( modeling), PDC, SCC- student council cell, EIC- entrepreneurship and innovation cell. WEC- women empowerment cell, NCC, NSS and so on. There is also a 2 week by NSS- national service scheme every year. societies of every branch- civil- ASCE, CSE-CSS, ECE+Electrical- IEEE, mechanical- ASME, etc. So basically there's something happening mostly all of the time in the college. It's up to you how actively you want to participate. To be or not to be.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni of 90's is very successful. our Alumni really help you a lot when it comes to internship, funding for pecfest, asking questions. Also, some of them are still in touch and meet whenever they can. they come for pecfest every year, bring friends and family. So it's fun. Seniors are also very helpful. Not at all showing superiority, no ragging at all.

Admission

I gave JEE MAINS examination. Got admission through JAC- Joint Allocation Authority, Chandigarh. After JEE mains result list, I went to their online website and registered myself for the admission process by paying I think around 1k. they keep a fee. Then, I to fill a preference order of college+branch to be taken on their website. The deadline for registration and also for filling the slots will be specified on the website only. Now, for filling the preference -For example, I chose 1. PEC CSE 2. UIET CSE 3. PEC ECE and so on. UIET, PEC, SS BHATNAGAR all these come under JAC Chandigarh. There were 3 rounds and 1 spot round. They shortlist ranks for each branch. For example for CSE in the first round, they shortlist till rank 2k. The information will be available online. if your rank is lesser or equal to 2k you have to come up for admission process and procedures and every information will be available time date venue. However if you didn't show up for round one, you cannot show up for the coming 2 rounds also. For example, your rank is 1k but you missed the first round and now in the second round the shortlist is 3k, you cannot show up for 2nd round because for the ranks till 2k first round has already been done. Now on the basis of availability of seats, they keep on increasing the shortlist ranks in further 2 rounds. Also, with increasing ranks and rounds, you upgrade automatically. For example, let's say you have rank 15k outside Chandigarh quota. In first-round the shortlist for civil let's say is 14-16k and your rank is 15k. You will have to come up for the admission process if your rank comes in any of the branches shortlist and it will upgrade automatically. So let's say you came up with all the required docs ( the list of which will be available on the website- DD, 10th,12th certificate, jee mains scorecard, adhaar etc.) and you got admitted. Now in 2nd round the shortlist for electrical goes to let's say it is 16k, according to your preference order, if electrical is above civil you will automatically get upgraded to electrical. You don't need to show up for upgradations. You can also drop the admission before spot round to get full refund of fees paid. In spot round is similar to the other rounds but it's a very unexpected round in which the ranks change abruptly. That's how my admission process was.

For CSE it's really good. Most of the teachers are of young age and are really up to date. While for civil, I wouldn't really recommend it if you really want to learn from this college. In my experience, it's really hard to get civil office to get anything done. Some professors are known for being "chill" and by that it means they either won't come or just send some M.Tech or Ph.D peeps. Attendance won't be a problem but you really won't learn. Not all of them are like that. Some actually want you to learn and would always say the curriculum syllabus is very less you should study more. So yeah it's a mix.
