Remarks

College Management is ok and can be partial in some cases. Rest is ok.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The first year subjects are same for all the three courses and involves basic subjects. The core curriculum starts from second year which is quite relevant to the branch. Industrial visits are not arranged by the college but by the technical organisations in the department such as IICHE. The syllabus is good enough to cover the placement rounds of company. If you are interested in research you can individually approach the relevant teacher who welcome the students whole heartedly but research is not mandatory in any course of Graduation.

Placement Experience

3.5

Placements for Chemical Engineering is almost 70% if everything goes well. The major companies that visit are ExxonMobil, Reliance, Bechtel, Honeywell UOP, EIL, Technip, Jubilant and many others. For Food Technology placements are bit challenge due to the limited demand in market but you can crack a good company if you prepare well. Some of the companies for Food Students are ZS, EXL, Mondelez, Tirupati, ITC etc which pick almost 50% of the students.

College Events

3.5

Cyanide is the annual technical fest of college which is quite disappointing because of the level of events organised by students themselves but it’s fun to a part of team and you get to work on your skills. The University organises many events on the large scale which are worth attending.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fees is quite a relief for Chemical and Food course. You can pay via Netbanking or bank in University campus. It is roughly Rs 25,000 per year including the examination fee. For Integrated course Chemical and MBA, fees is around Rs 70,000 per year. Tuition Fee and Examination fee is paid twice an year for each semester. You have to pay around Rs 2000 to fill the form for admission once and There are no additional expenses apart from this fee.

Fees and Financial Aid

There’s no need of loan. You can get full fee waiver if you are in EWS category (only in case of Integrated Chemical +MBA Course). Also you can apply for Central Govt Merit cum Means scholarship which provides you with Rs 25,000-30,000 annually.

Campus Life

2.5

Gender ratio is almost equal for food and integrated course CHEM + MBA but for Chemical the ratio is 2:1 for boys to girls. Since the college lies in Panjab University which has above 70 departments, you will like the culture and diversity of the campus and even love the atmosphere it provides. You can be a part of multiple organisations within the department itself. Few of them are ENACTUS, IICHE, singing club, dance club, arts club, Drama Club, and more.

Hostel Facilities

3

Yes, Panjab University has 10 hostels for girls and 7 for boys. The seat allocation depends on your Rank and once you get the hostel, you will get it for entire course. Newly built hostels are quite spacious and good. Most rooms are double sharing. PGs are available in nearby sector which is 10 min walking distance with monthly rent of around Rs 6000 with food

Alumni/Alumna

The college was established in 1958. The alumni network is so strong and helpful. Major internships and placements are alumni driven. The annual alumni meet can enlighten you to next level and motivate to be a better student and professional.

Admission

I got admission in the college in spot round of counselling in Aug, 2015 based on my JEE Mains Rank. The college offers 3 courses, BE Chemical Engg, BE Food Technology and BE Chemical with MBA integrated course of 5 years. The best course to choose is Chemical Engineering due to strong Alumni and Placement record.

Faculty

4

The faculty for Chemical engineering is quite experienced and knowledgeable. For Food Technology and for few subjects of Chemical, Guest Faculty is appointed which may not meet the expectations. There are many senior professors you can approach in Campus to get your doubts cleared. If you get in Chemical Engineering you are lucky as you will be taught by mostly 20+ experienced teachers. The basic hierarchy followed is Assistant Professor, Professor and Senior Professor along with Guest Faculty and Research Scholars who may be appointed in addition to the Professors.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would rate the course plan around 7 out of 10 in terms of relevance and depth. I chose this course mainly because it includes core tech subj like DSA, DBMS, OS, AI and cloud, which are useful for jobs in tech field. The presence of lab work and proj based learning also influenced my choice. The curriculum gives a fair base in theory and basic prac skills. It helps in campus place prep and also builds base for higher study like MTech or MS. But real world skill still depends a lot on self study, online course and side proj. Some topics feel updated, but a few subj are still too theory heavy and not linked to real case use. Exams are held twice as mid test and once as end term in each sem. There are also quiz, viva and lab eval. The level is moderate. If you attend class and revise notes, it is manageable. For improve, more live proj, hack event, ind visit and case study should be added. Teach method should shift more to code demo and less slide read
