Review on Panjab University

Panjab university is among the best universities in India which has always been there among the top 100 universities of India . The teaching staff is great . All the professors are well - knowledged in their field and are Phds having 10-20 years of experience . The environment of the university is super cool . You will get to know your different version when you get into this university . Various fests are organised in the university time to time which lead to development of skills in students Ayushmann Khurrana , Yamini Gautam , Kiron Kher and many others - they all are the product of Panjab university. Various student political parties are there and elections are held every year . These student parties work for the betterment of campus and students . In short , PU is a place where you will get exposure and chance to explore yourself and will help you in your overall development.

I am a microbiology student in this university . I chose this department because of its wide applications and The Department of Microbiology , PU is among the most prestigious department . There are 19 students in my class and 11 professors in the department . All the professors are highly knowledgeable and are always ready to help students for their betterment. All the professors are PhDs . Students are given topics for presentation which help them to improve their presentation skills and developing teaching skills as well . Examinations are held 4 times in an year . 2 mid semesters ( 1 each semester) ( September and March) 2 final examination (1 each semester)( December & May) If you have studied well and attended classes , you will be able to pass exams with ease.

Internships are compulsory for students in masters . They can do their internship in any prestigious institution or any industry . The students have to get internships on their own . There’s nothing like on campus internships . Professors offer LOR to students so that they can get internships.

Well , the campus placements are not so good . There is a lot of improvement required in this area . 2-3 companies come to hire students and 3-4 students are hired every year .The packages Provided are not so good and satisfactory .

Bachelors in microbiology costs about 30k to 40k . Various fee hikes are imposed by authorities but thanks to student political parties , which fight against this and force the authorities to take their decision back . So fee hikes does not occur frequently or hikes are usually of very small Percentage. Quotas are there for SC, ST , OBCs , single girl child etc Various prestigious companies come to hire students - Cipla , Aakash institute , etc But some improvements are required in placement cell ..

Various fests are there . 5-6 or even more fests take place every year . There is library in every department and there is a central library of this university - known by the name of A C Joshi Library which is open 24*7 Great emphasis is given to extra curriculum along with studies . Indoor and outdoor games competitions are held every year which are both interdepartmental and intradepartmental . Inter hostel games are also there.

The cost of hostel is 10,000 / year excluding meals . The quality of meals is fine . Hostel canteen is there. Rooms are two seated . All the festivals are celebrated in the hostel and freshers , farewell is also there . There are specific number of hostel seats which are allotted to each department . If you don’t get hostel , you can rent a room in sector 15 which is nearby the university which costs about 5000 / month ( without food )

Admission criteria for Bachelors of science courses is 75% entrance exam and 25% board percentage weightage .

PU- CET entrance examination is there . To get admission , you need to clear this exam and get good rank . 75% of entrance exam + 25% of merit percentage You need to get rank in top 500 to get admission . There are about 25k candidates appearing for this exam every year . By qualifying this exam , you can choose the specialisation area you want to pursue - Microbiology , botany , zoology , biochemistry , biophysics, biotechnology, chemistry, anthropology, geology , chemistry, physics , maths and pharmacy .
