Harmeet Kaur's Review On Panjab University - [PU], Chandigarh

There are a lot of factors for choosing the college. First and foremost factor is that it is near my house. Secondly, it is famous for its faculty and especially for M.A. English. Not only this, this college has an apt combination of Applied Linguistics and American Literature in its 4th semester. This combination is not present in majority of the colleges in Ludhiana.I opted this course because I was curious to learn more about English literature. And, I feel blessed to learn about English in depth.

Our course syllabus was extremely vast. It was a well intact ones. It provided us the deep understanding of all the periods English as a language has gone through and develop the course. The various forms of literature like British Drama, Greek Drama, etc were also covered.Since, my subject is a theoretical one. So, I don't have any industry experience. I personally love Humanities faculty. Ms. Rupinder Kaur was a part of that faculty. She taught me Literary Drama in the funniest way possible. She always used to smile and interact with us as we were her friends. Not only this, she is indeed a perfect example of beauty with brains.

No, I have never opted for any placement.

In our college, there are not many placement opportunities.Concentrix, a Gurgaon based company. It provides outsourced business process services.The interview was in two rounds. The first round was to attempt a MCQ test and the second round was a Personal Interview round.The Personal Interview was actually funny. I was asked to give the review of my favourite movie. I told her about Queen and fortunately, it was her favourite movie too. I got selected as well. But, the location was Gurgaon. So, I didn't go and pursue it.

I am an introvert. So, my campus life was not very outgoing as well.In my leisure time, I spent my time in library. And, I can vouch for the library. It is enormous with thousands of book in it. If you want to read fiction, non-fiction or any other genre for that matter. You can easily have an access to it. The librarian was also very amiable. She, at times referred me many books.The major events which the college hold was the Fashion Show for M.Sc. Fashion Designing department. Students used to choose a particular theme and made dresses accordingly. Apart from it, Sports Day was also celebrated with zeal and vigour. It is the celebration which lasted for two days. The first day is the opening ceremony where the students used to do March Past representing their houses, different types of races and the achievements of the college was discussed by our Principal ma'am. On the closing ceremony, it was a more fun and light-hearted as teachers and our helping staff used to participate in races and other sports activities.Freshers party and Farewell ceremony were a delight to watch. All the girls dolled up in their best attires and they do a ramp walk followed by a Question/Answer round. My teachers forcefully made me participate in Freshers ceremony and I bagged the First Runner up position. I was on cloud nine after this!

Though, I have never availed any scholarship from the college. But, our college provides a huge discount to the underprivileged students.12 students were awarded Mittal Pandey Scholarship worth Rs. 6000 each. For this, students need to fill forms issued by Nehru Sidhant Kendar. Two pre requisites are:i) The student's parents earning should be less than 1.5 lakh per annum.ii) The student has scored more than 85 percent in his/her previous class.

Judo and Kho-Kho were given a lot of importance in our college. Some girls have represented themselves at National Level as well. Rest, girls also used to particiapte in high jump, races and shot put.

Though, I have never opted for the hostel. But, the hostel has around 50 rooms. So, the rooms are definitely less. But, in Model towm there are a lot of PG's which are available. To facilitate the smooth functioning of the Hostel, certain committees are constituted i.e. Mess Committee, Discipline Committee, Cultural Committee, Excursion Committee, Cleanliness Committee etc. In addition to this, block wise floor Incharges are appointed to redress the grievances of the Hostellers.So, students won't face problems in the college.
