The ambience is very liberal so are the faculty members and students who are amiable in each and every aspect. Jadavpur University caters to the holistic development of each and every candidate so that they can bring laurels in their life and push the envelope.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course syllabus in updated in Sociology keeping pace with the latest societalchanges however there is lack of industrial exposure and limited seminars which can guide in the social development sector. The faculty is very qualified however most of the teachers are ad hoc with some them teaching in schools and lacking the requisite experience to teach in college.
Placement Experience
The placement and job opportunities in the Sociology department is distressingly low, given the fact that is the youngest department of the university and much emphasis must be given to allow it to be at par with the other departments. There are hardly any seminars or career counseling sessions held to shed light on the other prospects of this degree barring teaching and civil services. As a result many people are reluctant to join this course as they are oblivious of the wonders this degree can bring if the pupils are guided judiciously. Adequate funds must be spent on more public policy labs and career guidance programs.
College Events
The campus life is spectacular as students from every nook and corner of the world gives the university a multi -ethnic feel. There are three grand festivals held in the college throughout the year. However the funds received for the Arts department fest is less in comparison with the Science faculty which is more grandiose as compared to the former.
Campus Life
The library is unfortunately not up to date. There must be a serious overhaul of the library as it is next to impossible to purchase all the books in graduation. The lavatories are unkempt. The wifi facilities are however satisfactory.
