Excellent faculty, at least in the Economics department. Also, JU has a separate place in the intellectual space of Kolkata. I had some friends who were studying at JU, and from them I had an idea about the exciting clubs and societies JU lets you be a part of - the debsoc, quiz club, dance forum, music club etc. JU provides for all round development really.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course syllabus was pretty thorough for an undergraduate program, and the faculty was simply excellent. Profs Ajitava Raychaudhuru, Rajat Acharyya, Swapnendu Bandopadhyay are stellar researchers in their own right, and they inspire you to pursue the subject seriously. One thing that I found lacking was a necessary internship opportunity which is provided as a part of the MA program.
College Events
The best part of the JU experience. Before joining JU I was my school's sensor head, and had participated in some events, but the kind of exposure JU lets you have is a class apart. For starters, there are three fests that the Student Unions organize each year - Sanskriti. And they have all segments you can thiNk of - creative writing, debate, elocution, slam poetry, painting, cooking, dance, music, what not. The social life they let you have - getting to party with your friends on campus - is unparalleled. Besides, chances are your own department will have fests of its own.
Campus Life
Pretty good sports facilities, wifi, and very well stocked libraries. There are basketball courts, cricket/football grounds, and basically a place for every activity that you can think of. The washrooms, however, are a mess, and need a lot of cleaning-up.
