Remarks
The admission process was very smooth. Somaiya is definitely one of the best colleges in Mumbai. The teachers here are very friendly and cooperative and the quality of education is also very good. The college has an amazing campus is good for extracurricular activities too. The admission starts as soon as the results are declared as the seats are filled fast. There is not only bookish learning but also practical learning.
Course Curriculum Overview
I always wanted to pursue a career in finance. The student to teacher ratio was 1:70. Not just books, case studies and presentations are also used to make the teaching more interesting. The examination pattern followed in semester pattern and exams is conducted twice a year.
Internships Opportunities
Most of the students opt to get back free internship to get a good experience. The rankers and bright students are offered a stipend of almost Rs 5000 per month and they mostly start their roles as Interns or trainees.
Placement Experience
In the fifth semester, the campus placements begin. Many good companies like TCS, Godrej, Eclerx, etc. are the top recruiters. The highest package offered was Rs. Three lakhs a year. Almost fifty percent of the students are placed through the campus and others opt for further studies like MBA, MCom, etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees charged are almost twenty thousand rupees for a year and the duration of the course is three years. Self-financing courses are always a bit expensive as compared to plain commerce courses. Scholarships are available for scheduled castes and scheduled tribe students. The average stipend that a student gets after graduation is approximately fifteen thousand rupees a month.
Campus Life
The fest was known as Youth zest and it is a wonderful opportunity for the students to get out of the box. They are conducted after Diwali around November or December. The library has both national and international books and journals and is one of the best I have seen. The classrooms are neat and properly ventilated. Activities like dance, singing, running races, etc. are conducted.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility is available and it is kept pretty clean. Maximum four students are accommodated in a room. The washrooms are also clean. The food served is vegetarian only. However, the taste is not up to the mark and also the quality of canteen food is average.
Interview Experience
There are no entrance exams at this level at least during my life. Nowadays due to the high level of the competition entrance exam is conducted consists of general knowledge questions. The admission is based on merit.
