Remarks

The college management needs to improve. I felt that much depends on the Principal of the college. Though the atmosphere in the college is conducive for learning, I would like to point out couple of things that college management must address.1. A better

Entrance Preview

Admission was through cut-off list brought out by Delhi University. I was fortunate enough to sneak into Economics honours course based on my marks in class XII.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

My electives were Economics and History. The course curriculum was very good as can be expected of Delhi University. I reckon the curriculum is the best in any Indian university.

Internships Opportunities

I did intern for FICCI. Those days the stipend were meagre - Rs. 1,500 p.m. But believe me, even that sounded like a princely sum those days. I was obviously happy to do internship with a leading chamber of commerce & industry. It was a great learning experience for me.

Placement Experience

3

The placement opportunities were good considering that in mid-1990s the corporate sector was not very forthcoming. Those days the salary ranged between Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,500 p.m. Roughly translated, modern day students can expect a monthly salary of Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000.

College Events

3.5

Sabrang was the annual cultural festival of Deshbandhu College. It continues to be an annual feature, where plays, rock shows and fashion shows are a big draw for the students. Several departments organise seminars on a regular basis which, I found to be more informative than the usual lectures. Overall, the atmosphere in the college was fun-filled and the students used to participate in cultural events with full gusto.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Being a government college, the fees were all very feasible. Now when I listen about the fees that is being charged by some of the private universities, I am shocked.

Fees and Financial Aid

Not many scholarship is being offered by the college. Since the fees are quite affordable, not many students feel the need for availing loans to finance their education.

Campus Life

3.5

Campus life was such a fun. Hanging out with friends in the college canteen, where actually I ended up learning more about the outside world by interacting with fellow students. Sports competitions were my favorites and I also happened to win the chess championship in the college. Debates were also a regular feature. I used o attend the debates more as an audience. I found those debates really educating. Extracurricular activities always attracted me more than the lecture stuff.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is good but not great. Senior students are sometimes helpful. That said, I think alumni network needs to be strengthened and there is scope for better solidarity among the senior students/ alumni in terms of helping the junior students.

Exam Structure

Typically, the students were subjected to the annual examinations that Delhi University conducts. It has since moved to a semester system, which actually is better for the students. Annual exams used to be such a pain. However, it is part of the process f

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

The course curriculum is highly relevant and well-structured. It covers core subjects in detail along with modern industry-oriented topics. The balance between theory and practical learning is good, which helps students build strong concepts and job-ready skills for the future.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Being brutally honest I don't think that the course contributes a lot to our preparation for the real world but it teaches us very new things which I like. The course might not be very helpful in our real life preparation or the preparation for the real world but at the same time it enhances our knowledge and teachers as about various new things so I am satisfied with my course and whatever the curriculum includes I like it

In term of relevance I'll say that there are many topics which should not be taught as they are way too old and contradicting in modern times. New tumes problems and solutions should be taught in replace focusing on present.

Placement Experience:

Final year students are generally placed with an average package of 7-8 lakhs for management programs. Companies including the big 4 like EY, KPMG, Deloitte and other reputed companies have visited and many offers have been made. Around 60% of the students get placed in management branch. After getting the degree, I am also planning to appear in the placement opportunities.
