Remarks

Quality of education is fairly high. Most faculty members are well qualified and helpful. Adherence to discipline and decorum is a must - so there's hardly any distraction when it comes to learning. Every topic in syllabus is covered. If one pays enough attention in classes, with little effort at home one can score really well. Exams are standardized and there's no favoritism in paper evaluations. College has great rankings in national level. Zero tolerance for untoward behavior; so it's a safe place. Other facilities including library service, access to computer lab etc are really helpful. On a personal note, the rich heritage of the college, the list of the notable alumni increased my interest for applying to Xavier's.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course presents the right balance between academic education and career planning. It is high in demand for those who wish to pursue a professional career in the field of finance or as a tax consultant or chartered accountant or cost accountant or an accountant. It also provides ample opportunity for attending private coaching for the professional courses like CA, CFA, Actuaries or MBA preparations as the college runs upto 9.50 am (for 1st and 2nd year students) and upto 8 am or 9.10 am ( in the 3rd year). The syllabus design is based on the UGC- CBCS guidelines and in the final year one has plenty of options to choose as electives. The curriculum is practical in most cases. The student-teacher ratio is poor ( 75 : 1); commerce morning batch every year begins with 10 sections and about 750 students. But the faculty is mostly helpful and considerate.

Placement Experience

4

Many students pursue professional courses like CA and Actuaries who are not looking for placement opportunities. Those who aim for grad schools also aren't interested in placement often. One has to register with the placement cell and after training and sessions they hook you up for interviews with various companies who visit the campus. Placement after UG is quite a phenomenon if you look around at other colleges in the city.

Fee Structure And Facilities

There's financial help for those who belong to the economically backward class. Book bank facility is provided. I am not sure if loan arrangement is possible or not.Fees are restructured from time to time and it can be quite high if compared with similar courses offered by other eminent colleges in the city. No internship opportunities is directly handed but the Placement Cell and the Entrepreneurship Development Cell arrange for a programme where you can apply for internships and they match one up to organizations as per his suitability. Placement is offered to interested students.

Campus Life

4

A variety of activities are there for you if you are interested. Many gala fests are hosted by the college - like Xavotsav and there are departmental fests happening all round the year. A bunch of clubs and societies are there for you to join. There's opportunity for participation in sports, music, drama, dancing and whatnot!

Admission

Just an interview with the Father Vice Principal and the Dean of commerce along with the parents. Typical for any missionary institution. If your name appears on the get list you pretty much have secured your seat. The interview is more of a formality. Mainly personal questions are asked like where are you from? Where does your father work? Where did your father to go to college? Why are you interested to study here? Can you come to college within 6 am every day because we don't tolerate late attendance? Sometimes they don't ask you just one question maybe. But they do want to talk to parents - more like in a 'getting to know each other' way.

Placement Experience:

Techno India University has a strong campus placement. Several students got jobs during the last semester, and I am one of them. Some others choose to wait for better opportunities. Some joined good startups. The package was nominal as we were all freshers. After getting my degree, I planned to pursue corporate experience and then join a lab for my PhD.
