IIST Trivandrum, B.Tech, Avionics Engineering

Reviewed on Jun 23, 2021(Enrolled 2018)

Remarks

Provides Scholarship, Job Security, Hostel Security, Mess is very clean and food is amazing, Far from city so no disturbance, Lovely Climate, Want to have exposure to live on my own, and a healthy Competition.

Course Curriculum Overview

Curriculum - It is really tough here, as compared IITs as our course one topic covers IITs whole course. It feels like we are literally being trained to be scientists/ researchers. The faculties are well experienced. The Labs are more fascinating, and have those machine also which only IIST owns.

Class Size: 60Course Fees: INR 48400 per year

Placement Experience

4.5

If a student is able to score a CGPA of 7.5 or more then he/she gets a chance to be a part of ISRO as a Scientist with level C depending upon the vacancy. If the student is unable to score 7.5 then IIST has it's own Placement cell with min. package of 7.5 Lak p.a.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee Structure - 48400 per semester. But if you score 7.5 GPA or more in the ongoing semester you will the fees refunded to your account. Also you are then eligible for a scholarship of Rs. 3000 if you GPA is 7.5+.

Campus Life

3.5

Our campus life initially will be too great as we would be offered a lot of things to go on with the academics going on. but later as the years pass by all the fun will be gone as college education will be too touch and will need 1000% attention which is good and bad both.

Admission

JEE Mains - 2018 - 132/360 - SC Rank - 637, CRL Rank - 27527; JEE Advanced - 2018 - 96

Experiences so far

Likes

My experience at lissah has been mixing of challenges. Psychology depart has supportive teachers and classes is good
Campus is peaceful and it’s so greenery there are opportunities to take part in different academics
I also like that the psychology department has its own lab and practical exposure and Lissah is well known for psychology itself

Dislikes

I feel that there could be more programmes activities and opportunities for students to make college life
Location could feel like quiet and it’s not in town area
Those who prefer more active atmosphere I would not recommend here

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose bsc psychology because I was interested in understanding human behaviour. The curriculum covers different areas of psychology along with subjects such as major psychology minor statistics and physiology then English mdc . Since I am still in my first year I have only experienced the initial part of course

Likes

The campus is well maintained and is clean
Teachers are willing to give individual attention if needed
Above average food is provided in canteen

Dislikes

Lack of campus life as college is strict
Majority of the staff members are the type to hold a grudge against you
Spoon feeding students and not allowing them to think and improvise accordingly

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for campus placements from semester 6 onwards. But campus placement for civil engineering is fairly low. But companies like Aarbee Structures Pvt Ltd has offered jobs for my mates

Likes

All the teachers are well qualified and equipped to teach but the quality of teaching differs as per individual.

Dislikes

The say of students in matters concerning them or others is nil. We have very little say as the management takes all decisons.
Teachers have ego and superiority issues between themselves which might affect the children in 4th year, project phases.
Fests, events and functions are not upto any expectations.Schools in trivandrum have better events than our college.

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible from 7th semester to sit for interviews. The pod.ai app helps us in making the resume and calculating a cgpa to appear for the intwrviews. The pod.ai registration fees is 500?. Companies such as nissan, infosys, commandtech, bimlabs, gulfasia etc has visited . And the highest package was 11 LPA and lowest was 3 LPA

I feel like staffs in my department are pretty good, atleast they fullfill their duties to cover the portions in right time
We have placements training, offered free of cost by college itself
Notes and necessary materials for studying are provided from college itself, and most teachers don't force on buying textbooks or other materials

Dislikes

College is located in aarakunnam, which is a bit remote area hence for various needs we often need to travel a few kilometres even for basic necessities
The road to collage entrance is a steep road, and currently it's under construction (it's been a yr)
Students are required to park their vehicles outside the college, as there is no parking facilities for students inside campus

Placement Experience:

Currently placements are bit low, due to inflation, but compared to other colleges like KMEA, etc we have better placements similar to Muthoot and all. We have placement training, and other supports which can help us crack aptitude exams and prepare for placements Almost 70-80% students are placed every year, with an avg package of 4LPA

The library got my attention since it has alot of books and its the centre of attraction of the college

Dislikes

The college doesn't provide any placements and job opportunities
The college doesn't provide any pool options for swimming lessons
Teachers get changed every now and then this makes the continuity of the lessons very hard

Course Curriculum Overview:

The social service got my eyes on this course. The intention of creating the mentality of helping others by social service made me join the course. This course provides a great service towards the betterment of future and people in it.

IIST-An Unexplored Space

IIST is asia's first institute dedicated solely to space science and technology. It comes under Department of Space and not Ministry of Education which makes it one of its kind in India. I chose IIST over IIT(BHU) varansi , BITS Pilani (Electronics branch) and VIT Vellore (CS branch) because of IIST's ties with ISRO and various space relarted organisations. I got a confirmed seat in all the above 3 institutes but preferred IIST over them. Admission process at IIST opens after JEE-Advanced results declaration. Only JEE Advanced qualified candidates are eligible to apply here. It conducts its seperate counselling on its website. Last cutoff for all 3 branches is around 15000 CRL. Number of seats is 174 (75 Aerospace,75 ECE, 24 Dual degree(engineering physics))...Read More
