Remarks

I also applied at Thapar University but due to the fees being 5 times that of PEC, with almost the same companies recruiting for placements, I choose PEC as a college. Availed Chandigarh's hometown quota, which is almost the same as General. You need >60% marks in PCM 12th to be eligible to apply and admission is based on your JEE Mains Rank the minimum marks for admission were 130 in 2017 but now the criteria have been changed to percentile due to a change in JEE Mains schedule. After being allotted to the particular branch, you have to attend orientation in your first week. You are given a campus tour and described various clubs and societies which students can choose as extra-curricular.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I choose this course as Electrical is a circuital branch and is the mother branch of CS and Electronics. Most companies who recruit for placements are eligible for Circuital branches including Electrical. The faculty-student ratio is on average 1:30. Most faculties have a Master's or a Ph.D. in their respective field. The teaching method was mostly 4-5 quizzes per subject with 2-3 assignments and a half-yearly and an end-term examination. The term exams were held very timely and the difficulty level was decent. 95% of students usually pass exams.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Most companies who offered internships are JP Morgan, ZS Associates, Microsoft, and the average stipend was 15-30k per month. Almost all students are offered an internship opportunity on campus but you also have an opportunity for a semester exchange in IITs.

Placement Experience

5

Students are eligible for internships in the 5th semester and placements in the 7th Semester. More than 100 companies visit the campus every year and more than 500 offers are given. The highest package offered was 20 Lakhs per annum and the average package is 6 Lakhs per annum and profiles offered are Software, Analyst, Sales, Operations. 80-90% of students who sit for placements are offered atleast 1 offer on-campus. My plans are to work in the company offered as a full-time Employee.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is INR 60k per semester in 2017, with an average hike of 10% for new batches. It usually costs around INR 5-6L per annum to a 4-year degree. Scholarships are offered to top 3 performing students of every branch based on CGPA, and financial aid is also provided upto 50% for reservation students. I was offered a position at Collegedunia Web Pvt Ltd as an on-campus placement.

Campus Life

4.5

The annual fest is PECFEST which is held every year which is one of the biggest fests in North India. Usually conducted in the month of October-November. All course books are usually available in the library and Book Bank. The classrooms are equipped with Black/White Board, Projector, AC, sitting for 120 students. Extracurricular are very much healthily practiced in PEC. Most Sports are practiced here like Football, Cricket, Basketball, Fencing, Chess, Badminton, Athletics/ The website ZINBUCKS is a attendance tracker based on facial recognition is run by PEC Alumni.

Placement Experience:

Since the first batch of VLSI is yet to be placed I would take example of ECE for reference. Out of 110 students which sat for placements , 91 got placed , median of 13 lakh with avergae of 16 lakh and 61 lakh highest on campus. These are of 24-25 and this year placements are better as even apple visited us after an hiatus of 3 years. In core electronics , Samsung Rnd , TATA electronics , Cadence , Micron etc visited for tech , UKG , PhonePay , Oracle , Accenture etc vist in consulting and finance , Mckinsey , JP Morgan , GoldmanSachs , AmericanExpress visit. After my btech I plan to do a job.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would rate the course plan around 7 out of 10 in terms of relevance and depth. I chose this course mainly because it includes core tech subj like DSA, DBMS, OS, AI and cloud, which are useful for jobs in tech field. The presence of lab work and proj based learning also influenced my choice. The curriculum gives a fair base in theory and basic prac skills. It helps in campus place prep and also builds base for higher study like MTech or MS. But real world skill still depends a lot on self study, online course and side proj. Some topics feel updated, but a few subj are still too theory heavy and not linked to real case use. Exams are held twice as mid test and once as end term in each sem. There are also quiz, viva and lab eval. The level is moderate. If you attend class and revise notes, it is manageable. For improve, more live proj, hack event, ind visit and case study should be added. Teach method should shift more to code demo and less slide read
