Remarks

The course eligibility is based on the marks of the higher secondary final exam. No admission test is required here. But you need very good marks to get admission. You are eligible for applying if you got 45% marks in class 12. But because of the competition, you need a minimum of 80-90% marks in higher secondary. If you belong to SC/ST you may get a chance while getting 70-80% marks. Besides it, you must have a minimum of 80% marks in the subject you are taking as honours. I have taken Geography honours & I have got 89% marks in Geography and my overall marks in all subject are almost 81%. The application form is on the official website of our college. You have to fill up the admission form and if get selected on merit lists you have to pay the fee and after you need offline document verification.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Among all the subjects I love geography very much and I want to be a teacher or professor in Geography. That's why I have chosen this subject. We had 6 professors and around 57 students in our class. But around 40 students studied. 17 students have left for another course. So the student-faculty ratio was almost 6-7 students per one professor. Our faculties are qualified. All of them have done PhD. They took regular interactive classes both online and offline. We had 6 semesters to pass and two internal assessments every semester. Exams were neither difficult nor hard to pass.

Fees and Financial Aid

Like any other government college, our Barasat Government college fee is also low. The total cost of study in 3 years is below Rs 15000. And you don't need to pay an additional fee like private colleges. If you are a minority candidate you can get an OASIS scholarship. If your family income is less than 2.5 L per year and you get 60% marks you get svmcm scholarship and if you are a girl you get a Kanyashree scholarship. If you wish you can apply for a private scholarship. No jobs are offered in college

Campus Life

4.5

Many cultural programs are organized by our college student union every year. We have celebrated every special day like Independence day, Republic day, Teacher's day, Swami Vivekananda Jayanti, and many more. Many festivals like Saraswati Puja, Fresher's welcome were also organized. We have a very big library in our colleges. We have all our department books and many other books many books & journals & magazines. Our classrooms are very clean & beautifully decorated. And annual sports programs are also organized with different sports activities like high jump, long jump, 100 m run, etc. We have a student union group.

Placement Experience:

People who major in my department usually opt for masters over placement not because of this college but because overall industrial or academic opportunities are better with a pg degree. Masters from this college is not recommended as i have heard so from my seniors. Some of my seniors managed to crack competitives and secure MSc seats at great places. Training and Placement cell had a good coordinator previously but now its almost non existent. Companies do come and hire Bpharm, Mpharm and MSc candidates. Packages are below average. Only Nestle pays well. But if you do well you'll eventually climb up the corportate ladder. From the time i am here i have not heard of any BSc candidate getting placed. Most go for higher studies.

Placement Experience:

The average package offered for such roles ranges between ?2–3 LPA, while the highest package offered to a BSc student is around ?4 LPA, depending on skills and specialization. Overall, around 15–20% of BSc students get placed through campus drives, and many students rely on off-campus opportunities.

The course is very relevant as it provides us an overall knowledge of biology and not dividing it into various sections rather giving us an insight of every aspect of biology. It includes everything such as microbiology, zoology, botany, physiology, molecular biology and so on.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum was well thought out as per me but there were subjects that i found absolutely unnecessary. Subjects like history evs and clc were in no way related to my course. Coming to the main subjects Design, Printing, Photography and film and Media Training were absolutely necessary for my course and whilst the faculty for some of these subjects were really bad, some were good. It is also important to mention none of these subjects actually helped us prepare for the real world. Instead internships and freelance helped us more than these subjects could ever do. Exams were held bi monthly to keep track of what we learnt and every 6 months we had our semester exams. Overall if you want to be a media professional INTERNSHIPS AND JOBS WILL HELP YOU MORE THAN A COLLEGE WILL. I am biased on this opinion as my college didnt provide me with the correct guidance and support i needed to make it in the real world.

Placement Experience:

In case of computer science department, placement is provided at the Last year of M.sc course. Many companies like Wipro, b10x, Tata visited here. Highest package ever is three lakh per annum. 20-40% of the students got placement after completing M.Sc computer science. My plan after B.sc is to pursue MCA.

* It's all about practical knowledge, we are getting from this course and another aspect is if you wants to make your career in research or lecturer then you should go for it. *No changes required in teaching methods but if college will provide hostel facilities and campus requirement drive, then it will better for candidates.
