Life At VIT

The admission process for VIT begins with an entrance exam VITEEE. You can find out about it on Google. Then you get your rank on result day. Then, there is counseling in phases. In one phase about 10000-15000 are allowed to fill choices of courses. There is a category system if your rank is not good enough but you want to choose a specific course, then you can choose it by paying more than previous category students with good ranks.

The course curriculum is good. We have about 4-5 subjects in one semester. I chose ECE because I couldn't get CSE but I also like ECE. 1-25 is a faculty-student ratio. Here, the faculty is highly qualified as teachers with Ph.D. degrees. Term exams happen in about a month and a half. It isn't that difficult to pass if you pay attention only in class.

There is a Career Development Cell (CDC) in VIT which offers a variety of job opportunities to choose from. Companies like eBay, Intel, Amazon, Dell, Hitachi, HP, Schneider Electric, Texas Instruments, Tata, PayPal, Honda, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, and many others companies actively take part in hiring and placement processes.

VIT has 90% placement with more than 900 companies coming to the college. You are eligible for campus placements from the 5th-6th semester. I plan to study MBA after I graduate from a decent college. The highest package from VIT Vellore is 1.02 CR with an average package of 8 lakhs.

VIT has a category system for fees. If you get a good rank in the VITEEE exam, then you can choose any course of interest in category 1 which have relatively low fees than other categories. There are 5 categories in which fees for the same course increase. If you don't have a good score in VITEEE and you want a specific course that you can't get by your rank, then you can try by paying more in the next categories.

Vit has fests like gravitas where there are many events for fun and to get prizes. It also has Riviera. These fests are conducted between October to December. VIT has a national level Library with about 2.5 lacs books with an easy issue system. VIT has a very wide campus. There are many sports available that you can play on campus. There are 2-3 gyms on campus and a swimming pool, football court, badminton court, table tennis court, and many more.

There are many hostels on the VIT Vellore campus. You can get 2 bedded, single bedded 4 bedded 3 bedded and 6 bedded rooms with/without AC. Each room has one shelf above a study table to keep books and a cupboard/almirah to keep your belongings. The meal is decent in mess but you can get better if you choose special mess. There is no point to live outside the campus because you will face numerous problems and you can't concentrate on your studies.
