Remarks

Management is quite strict. All the rules must be followed meticulously. Punishment may be as vigorous as "rustication".

Entrance Preview

I took Karnataka CET and secured 2nd rank in the entire state.I had the option to select any college in the entire state but I chose RVCE because it had given best results in academics through many years and had the best placement statistics. Also, RVCE alumni groups gave confidence and important feedback which made me choose RVCE for graduation. They association with the name of RVCE in itself gives confidence in life. There are lots of placement opportunities. Many students get offers from even 3-4 companies. No student remains unemployed after joining RVCE.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The main objective of the course is to get the students industry ready. I enrolled for computer science course. From day 1 they give practical training. We spent more time in labs then classroom. All the course books were available in the college library which is very big in size. You can borrow any book for entire semester. Library was kept open till late night to enable students to make the best of it. For each subject we were parted with practical knowledge and it was ensued that each and every student learns as much as possible.

Internships Opportunities

Every year throughout the session companies visit the college for placement and internships. Many companies like yahoo, Microsoft, nettap,Cisco and many more took students for internship and offered a very good stipend apart from working on real industry projects. Some companies offered internship stipend up to 20000 INR.

Placement Experience

5

Every year throughout the session companies visit the college for placements. Many companies like yahoo, Microsoft, nettap,Cisco, samsung,IBM, amazon, ESI, etc almost 140+ companies visit the college. Package varied from 3 lpa to 15 lpa during 2011. 2-3 companies were allowed for mass recruitment and they offered a package of 3-4 lpa and good companies like samsung offered 6 lpa, yahoo 12 lpa etc. No student was left un-placed. Only students who were ambitious to pursue further studies did not take part in placement processes.

College Events

4

Every department of the college holds departmental fests. But for the entire college 8th mile is the most awaited. The annual techno-cultural extravaganza of RVCE, “8th mile” is one of the grandest and biggest fests in South India. With an annual footfall of more than 30,000, 8th mile seeks to celebrate the incredible talent and caliber of every engineer by hosting a diverse array of events and shows. Staying true to the adage “work hard and party harder”, over the last few editions, 8th Mile has become synonymous with epic proshows. If the days are ruled by hackathons, treasure hunts and other cultural competitions, come dusk and the grounds of RVCE evolve into a concert and take on a vibrant hue courtesy of the show stopping performances by some of the top bands and performers in the country. From glamorous fashion shows to intense battle of the bands, 8th mile has always set the bar high when it comes to delivering an action-packed evening. With all the fanfare surrounding it, 8th mile is more than just an annual fest, it is a movement. And the blend of talent, creativity and youthful exuberance of its participants ensures that it will continue to snowball into something bigger and better every year and still never cease to amaze.

Fee Structure And Facilities

I got a free seat by cracking CET. So, I just had to pay 20000 INR as annual fee. For students of Karnataka domicile fee is around 50000-75000 and for students domiciled out of Karnataka and those who came through AIEEE etc fee was 1.25 lacs. For students coming directly for admission without any admission exam they used to go for a management seat which used to be a bit costly even up to few lacs for computer science seat.

Fees and Financial Aid

No such facility was availed by me. College had a Bank and used to help students to get loans if required.

Campus Life

4.5

Gender ratio is quite good. Approximately it would be 60-40 for male vs female. There seemed no discrimination as far as gender is concerned. All girls and boys used to be quite cool and of modern thoughts. More than 80% people were from economically strong background. And a few from weaker section who had to raise loan from bank or they must secure a good rank in CET.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

There are limited hostel seats and are filled first come first serve basis. For final year students they provided 1 room for each student and for junior classes the hostel rooms are shared between 2 or more. Food quality is fine. For PGs nearby people may get a shared room with food in 5-8 thousand per month. Or they may also take flats/houses on rent.

Alumni/Alumna

College organizes alumni meets and tests frequently. The alumni network is very big and influential. Many companies and events draw to the college because of the alumni network. They used to guide us for pursuing career in various companies, what to do in higher studies.

Exam Structure

We were taught in such a manner that we never felt too burdened. Though we had exams very frequently but still the students managed to have time for other activities and chill out. We had 3 semesters in a year. 2 normal semesters for 3-4 months and one fast-track semester of 3 months. Generally 90% students used to clear the academics in first 2 semesters but still if a few students failed to clear some subjects then they had to attend the fast track semester and try to clear the subjects.

Admission

I took Karnataka CET and secured 2nd rank in the entire state. During counselling of CET I gave option as RVCE. After getting the option letter from CET I went to the college admin department where they gave me another form for admission and challan for depositing fee. I filled all the details completely and deposited the fee in the bank in college premises, took reciept and approached the admin department. After verifying the receipt I was asked to come back on a particular date when they issued me identity card and my name appeared in the roll of computer science department.

Faculty

4

We had the best faculties in computer science department who encouraged students to have a focus on research. We never had to refer any additional book other than the notes and explanations given by faculties. Each and every faculty themselves had a background in research in the subject they took and used very scientific and practical techniques to teach.

From your 7th semester you become eligible to get placed and it is mandatory to get internship before you get placed which the college helps you to get and around 400-500 companies visit, and a good amount of offers are made by them. The average package stands somewhere around 11LPA -12LPA and the highest goes to 50LPA-60LPA and the median stands around 9-10LPA.

Course Curriculum Overview:

As I'm in 1st semester. I will update you after my exams. But one good thing is that from this year, internals and externals will hold same weightage i.e., 50/50 If you can score more than 45% in internals which wouldn't be that big of a deal because they'll ask most the questions from class notes. Most of the faculties are average I would say. But some are good professors too. I chose CSE because I find these topics interesting since junior school. And everyone is just jumping into cse is a reason too lol.
