Likes
- AC classrooms, the library, the Nescafe shop and strolling through the campus.
- Some subjects like intro to programming and DSA were good and challenging.
- Placement and internship opportunities are not bad. Career development centre provides assistance with getting a job.
Dislikes
- The syllabus is outdated and needs to be revamped. New courses like AI/ML and web development should be incorporated in CSE course.
- The students are a mixed bunch. Some are helpful, some not so much. Leaves you with mixed feelings about people (but mostly bad).
- Course materials should be made more available, YouTube playlists recommended by faculty and paper checking process should be made more transparent
Course Curriculum Overview
The course covers the fundamentals of CSE but some subjects are unnecessary, and the curriculum is somewhat outdated (as in most engineering colleges in the country). 1st year had even more irrelevant subjects that are beyond the scope of one's specialization. Faculty members are well-qualified and accomplished in their fields, but not everyone teaches well in the classroom (few do, actually). Examinations are not difficult to pass, but getting a decent CGPA requires effort.
Internships Opportunities
Amazon, Oracle, JP Morgan, Qualcomm - several companies offer internships. Good CGPA, skills, relevant projects, and your personality and ability to work with a team are important factors. You can land a PPO if you sufficiently impress your employers during the internship period. Cannot comment on the internship stipend as I'm only in 2nd year.
Placement Experience
Placements are pretty decent. Big tech companies like Microsoft and Amazon visit the campus almost every year. JP Morgan, Adobe, and Qualcomm are some other recruiters. Circuital branches see high packages. The average in CSE can reach over 20 LPA. Placement percentage varies from year to year. It's usually above 80 percent. Fees and Financial Aid
Financial assistance is available for students with low income as long as they can furnish the proper documents. Don't expect the administration to be helpful or friendly. Too much bureaucratic red tape. If stuff checks out, you have to pay less. Without scholarship or financial assistance, you can expect to pay 8-10 lacs over 4 years for a B. Tech course. Fees are hiked by 2-3K randomly and without explanation.
Campus Life
Annual tech fest and cultural fest are pretty fun. They see decent participation. There are many, many clubs on campus. However, it doesn't necessarily mean you'll find satisfaction. The club experience is different for different people and depends on your expectations. There are many people you can talk to and mingle with. I wouldn't know much about that, being introverted and socially awkward.
Hostel Facilities
Hall 14 (where we have been staying) is about as good as you can expect an Indian hostel to be. It is well built and the rooms are nice. The crowd is a different story. Your hostel life is only as good as the friends you make in the hostel. If you find a good group, stick with it (until it becomes toxic). Theft and fights are disturbingly common. Sometimes, there is water and electricity shortage.
Admission
Admission was on the basis of JEE mains rank. Information related to admission can be found on the official college website. The administration should be a little more interactive with the students during the admission process, and address queries faster and more effectively.
