Course Curriculum Overview

4

I was interested in core branches and mechanical engineering was the best choice for me. Faculty members are highly qualified, some of them did their PhD from IITs as well. The college has around 3000 students from all disciplines including PhD students and there are around 300 faculties to manage them. Exams are held every month here that is minor I and minor II, and end semester exam there are quizzes in between as well.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Students from the second year onwards go for internships in their respective industries for 2-4 weeks which is organised by the college itself. And students in the third year like quite a few have interned in DRDO and ISRO With handsome stipends and this is for students who get 9 cgpa.

Placement Experience

3

Students from the 7th semester become eligible for placement. Quite a few companies have visited the campus and recruited students from different disciplines, companies like JSW, L&T, IOL, etc have visited this year for placement. The highest placement is from off campus which was 32 lacs, bagged by CSE students. Last year JSW offered 13 lacs to a student from mechanical design which was the highest from the same branch. Chemical branch students also get placed in numbers.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees for a year's degree are 3,11000 (tuition and hostel) then 2700 -2800 monthly mess fees. Few students from each discipline get tuition fee waivers based on jee main ranking. There is another scholarship as well for poor students from each discipline, where they get assistance in paying tuition fees.

Campus Life

4.5

Campus Life is so good here. We have a cultural fest called Madhuram every year which is conducted in October. There is a tech fest as well which is conducted in April every year. Each fest has its chief guest who is a prominent face in their field. We get 3-5 books from the book bank each semester for free, which should be returned at the end of the semester. There are proper sports grounds for each sport indoor and outdoor. We have around 40 clubs in total for every field, a few examples: Endeavour for robotics, Sviesa for photography and media, Navarasa for drama, etc.

Hostel Facilities

5

All students getting admission to this institute get a hostel room which is triple sharing for the first 3 years, in the final year we get a single room. The mess here has different menus for each day and the quality is decent not overly good not very poor. At the time of admission, we get our rooms assigned.

Admission

My admission to the BE degree course was made on the basis of Jee's main exam, through josaa and csab counseling. I am in the mechanical department and its cutoff for the general category was around the 80 percentile. CSE cutoffs for a general candidate was around 92-93 %tile.

NITJ has a placement cell, also known as the Centre of Training and Placements(TPO office of NITJ). The placement scenes differ depending on the courses offered. The average placements are 12-14LPA in the Computer Science branch. Every year, hundreds of companies, including Pvt and govt both. PSUs like HPCL and BPCL recruit students based on merit and academic excellence.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The interest in coding influenced me to choose this subject and course. The curriculum gets me ready for a 9-5 job which kind of gets hectic. The teachers could maybe schedule classes to give the students time to study what they want to and if they wish to do a course outside the university they have the time to do so rather than just going by the university curriculum
