What Students Say
Likes
- Good teaching facilities with comprehensive courses.
- The club activities being very engaging.
- The tech fest (gravitas) with all of its interesting events.
Dislikes
- Below average mess facilities and menu options
- Lots of internal changes and politics make it hard to expect transparency of information.
- Very high bureaucratic system, makes it difficult to get work done.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course has many subjects and with the FFCS option, one is allowed to choose their faculty and interested subjects (as long as credit requirements are met). Every subject is detailed enough to give a good foundation on it. The frequency of exams are sometimes irregular and this usually affects the teaching negatively as they have to rush through syllabus
Internships Opportunities
There is a dedicated internship cell in VIT that regularly sends mails to students about internship opportunities. But it is recommended to take them after completing 2nd year. Many companies look to recruit students for internships.
Placement Experience
The training for placements starts from 3rd year itself. Around 900 companies visited in 2023 and many people got placed. There are two kinds of offers - dream and super dream offers. More information can be found on placement tracker section in the official website.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are 5 categories of fees, maxing out at 4.9L in tuition fees. The complete cost of a cat 5 student along with hostel would be around 7L per year. There are scholarships available for students who need it.
Campus Life
The club scene is very prominent in VIT. There are nearly 150 clubs and chapters of various kinds including sciences, arts, hobbies, social service, sports, etc. The two main events, Gravitas (tech fest) and Riviera (cultural fest) take place in a year. Riviera is fun when club work is there. But attending as an audience member is exhausting as there's severe problems in crowd management
Hostel Facilities
Even in hostel facilities, the advantage is with the people with higher cgpas during hostel councelling. Better cgpa ensures better hostel facilities. So overall, hostel facilities are pretty average. Mess food is also not that good. Non veg options are fine but veg options can be way better
Admission
The admission process was straightforward. Most of the information was available on their official website. After writing the entrance exam, I had to select one of the FIVE categories that I was qualified for, based on my rank. The exam wasn't as difficult as the other exams I had written and there was also no negative marking, which boosted my confidence.
