Course Curriculum Overview
My course is Computer Science Engineering core. I would rate the course curriculum in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness, an average 7/10. There are two main internal exams namely CAT 1 and CAT 2 and a final exam FAT. CAT 1 is closed book and CAT 2 is open book. Most of the subjects you learn here do not prepare you for the real world. The difficulty level of exams are moderate.
Internships Opportunities
The college gives internship opportunities. Various companies like TCS ,Google summer internship, AWS Cloud marketplace, and multiple other opportunities are given from the Incubation centers for startups. I am not completely aware about the internship opportunities since I am in my second year.
Placement Experience
VIT Vellore has a guaranteed 100% placement program. The placement training starts in 6th semester and placements start in 7th semester. Many companies like Google, Microsoft, Deloitte, Infosys, Cipla, IBM, TCS, Wipro, etc. The average package is average 9LPA and highest package is around 1-1.5Cr per annum. All students in VIT get placed as per their reports. You are eligible for placements only if you have no backlogs by the 7th semester.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fees for OCI category are relatively higher compared to regular category. OCI/NRI students pay around 8 lakhs per year in VIT Vellore. The fees for hostel and mess together would be around 2.5-3 lakhs. For OCI citizens no direct scholarship from VIT is provided. Financial aid may be provided depending on the respective candidates board marks. The campus provides internships and many employment opportunities for their students.
Campus Life
The overall campus experience is good I would say. There are many clubs and chapters to take part in. Many events are hosted and the participation in every event is immense. Infrastructure is also excellent. The campus is very big and well maintained. Spots and extracurricular activities are promoted in VIT. There is a library where almost every book related to academics can be found. There are many genres of books and a lot of space to sit and read or study them too in the library.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities vary depending on which hostel you have been alloted. Some hostels are good and some other are bad. There are many different types of rooms also, namely 2 bed, 3 bed, 4 bed and 6 bed. There are different messes also namely Non-Veg, Veg and Special Mess. The food quality is good in every mess and menu varies depending on which mess you are in. In each room there will be one table, bed and cupboard per person. The registration process for hostel is also straightforward for OCI students. We have to select the hostel and pay the fees.
Admission
The admission process for VIT University was smooth. I got in through OCI quota which is for people who hold a foreign passport. As for the eligible criteria a minimum of 75% is required for 12th boards and 60% in MPC. The application for OCI quota can be found on VITs main website under foreign category. There are a good amount of seats reserved for foreign students. There is no exam so it's a straightforward procedure, only proof of citizenship should be provided.
