Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum for BSc physics is more focused on research than industrial aspect. The frequency of exams are irregular, a number of times the semesters have been held within three months of classes, consequently in a rush to finish the syllabus. The difficulty levels are relatively harder than other universities in West Bengal.
Internships Opportunities
Tata, Exide, ONDC, Indian oil limited, coal India are some of companies that frequently offers internship in various courses of our university with stipend around 15-16k. Besides that internship in various research projects under our esteemed professors are also available for us, students.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total fees for an academic year, including the tuition fees is kept under 1860 over the years. With some additional examination fees (below 100) each semester. For a non hostel boarder this is all that they need to pay
Campus Life
The campus life is vibrant thanks to numerous student run club functioning in the campus ranging from photography, dance, music, fashion to mountaineering and hiking club. Along with mathematical societies, Debating societies, astronomy club and other more study related once. Every year the annual fest Sanskriti is organised by the three students unions of engineering, science and arts faculty separately. These fests are open to all and invites other universities as well in different compitition and sport events.
Admission
The online application process typically starts in the month of June following the publication of results of West Bengal state board. A minimum average score of 75% is required in physics, chemistry and maths in (10+2) level to apply for BSc physics for unreserved candidates, this criteria is lowered for reserved categories. The admissions are merit based. Post pandemic, an admission test of 50 marks is being taken in MCQ format according to syllabus of wbchse. 50% weightage is given to the admission test and the rest to the board marks. The reservation of seats are in accordance with state government rule. The whole counseling and admission process is held offline, failing to appear in the said date would lead to cancellation of application.
Faculty
The faculty-Student ratio stands nearly at 5:1 for BSc physics. We've over 35 full time professors with PhD as their highest degree along with numerous associate and assistant professors. Except a few, all professors are easily approachable and pays attention to issues raised by students. However the approach to teaching and mentorship varies person to person. Some of them are really efficient, while others are not.
