Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The curriculum and syllabus was decided to be the one of its kind. I personally really liked the syllabus of my course. It provided me with some of the exquisitely chosen texts that not only helped me academically but changed my point of view towards the real world as well. However, the syllabus and curriculum of English hons is pretty lengthy and you need to be a good reader in order to cope with the syllabus in the given time. There are only end semester exams in between which you are given a number of assignments which help you inculcate and develop research and analytical skills in you. All in all, the curriculum, examination and internals, together make a perfect combination.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

The college itself doesn't provide any internship opportunities. However, it's the societies which provide internship opportunities to students. There are various NGOs which the societies connect with and then the students get involved in charitable and non-paid internships. There happened a project Rang de in our Rotaract society in which students were to paint the walls of an NGO. But there were internships which paid from 3000 to 7000 per month as well.

Placement Experience

2

In my course, that is English hons, there are no placements offered by the college. Students have to figure out what they want to do after their graduation on their own only. But i guess there are placements in courses like commerce and business and there is a placement cell too in our college which provides the students with wonderful opportunities for placements and internships. Rest, i do not know much about the placements of the students of dyal singh college. In my case, i chose to pursue MA in English after my graduation.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure for the three years was like this: 13000 + 10000 + 10000. Along with 500-700 for each end semester exams. So in total it sums up to around 35-36k for 3 years. This includes tuition fees as well as other fees. There is scholarship for pwd category and reserved category in which the fee concession depends case to case. Generally in English hons you don't get placed by the college. But in courses like commerce and business you get a chance of placement if you are associated with the placement cell of our college.

Campus Life

4

To be honest, the annual fest of dyal singh college, called Priyadarshini, is not that a pomp and show. It's normal and in fact it doesn't get conducted some years. However the departmental and society festa are awesome to attend. The library is pretty good. You get books of all the courses in the library. Also, I wish there were ACs in our classrooms. I rarely witnessed any sports getting played in our college other than football. i liked the crowd, however. The students are really nice in DSC. Most of the DSCians are from either middle or upper middle class. So you won't feel a kind of left out feeling of you are from middle class. You surely will get a friend circle that matches your vibe and background.

Admission

The eligibility of the course was 12th pass. The application forms are released on DU website once the 12th result is out. There is a reservation for reserved category, girls, pwd, and minorities, etc. In 2020, the admission was merit based. Now they have introduced cuet entrance exam which is conducted every year for UG admissions. The level of the entrance, i have heard, is moderate to mild difficult.

Faculty

3.5

In my course, the faculty-to-student ratio was quite good. There were around 20 teachers in my department and they were really qualified and erudite. Most of the teachers were very helpful in that they were always eager to provide the students with best of the study material. They were approachable as and when needed and the student-teacher interaction was well. However, there were some teachers who were difficult to understand and students tend to skip the classes of such teachers.

Other Applied Colleges

Hansraj College - [HRC] | Master of Arts [MA] (English)

Hansraj outranks dyal singh college in terms of academics and NIRF rank.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities are mainly for commerce stream departments but the humanities stream also are offered internship from the government ministries such as ministry of culture and Home ministry. There are many private companies that come to offer placements. The students from 3rd year in particular apply for internships. The highest package iffered is 500000 and the average is 250000. About 45% students get placements. My plan after getting the degree is to go for higher studies.

Remarks:

Positive : the faculties are good and I could say our college is the meeting place of various cultures ranging from Kerala to jammukashmir Negative: the infrastructure is poor. Labs and libraries are not so good. And there are stray dogs who often steps into classes and make us afraid. College is not fully air conditioned but is on processing.
