- The location and the beautiful campus because of the hillside location and greenery
- The infrastructure of the university is good
- Faculties Expertise is excellent. Most of the professors had amazing teaching experience with some having teaching experience at foreign universities such as Oxford and Cambridge University
Dislikes
- There was no placement cell and no placement support. Very few companies came to the campus for the placements.
- Alumni network is weak. There is no standardized portal for alumnus of the institution
- Sometimes the research fellows were sent to teach us which would affect the quality of lessons at times
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was not that special. Though it was updated but sometimes I would seem redundant. The course didn't prepare me that well in terms of practical application since there were no internships. Improvements: There should be internships and more field visits to industries and business centres. 2 exams per semester for each subject in the course.
Fees and Financial Aid
The yearly fees was INR 40,000, and the course fees increases almost every year. There was no exemption or rebate on course fees for reservation candidates. I didn't avail any scholarship although some of my batchmates did avail scholarships from the state government.
Campus Life
The annual fests of GU, annual fest of my Dept was Manifesto Commercio which was normally held anywhere between December to February. There is a huge collection of books in the main GU library and also every department has its own library. There are projectors for lessons and lessons. There are sports fests as well.
Admission
I applied to KC Das Commerce College, Gauhati Commerce College. I chosed GU over those two because because the university was providing me with masters degree as well since it's an integrated course of 5years. And also due to location aspects since GU was near my area of residence
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio back in my time was 1:10 that is for every 10 students there was 1 faculty. The faculties were approachable. We could approach them anytime during the college hours and also limitedly after college hours depending upon the severity of need. The faculties I liked where Prof. Padmalochan Hazarika, Prof. Amrit Pal Singh. I liked all the faculties. There is entrance exam conducted by GU for admission and for semesters there's one mid term and 1 end term.
